I am wanting to swap my Audi Concert in my 2007 S3 for the Audi Symphony II which has the 6 cd head unit and was wondering if anyone knows the following:-

1. Is the sound quality the same?
2. I assume its a straight swap?
3. Has anyone got one they wish to sell?

Cheers

I may be getting my head unit names mixed up, I have the head unit which comes as standard with an S3 2007, it says concert on it.

I basically want to get it swapped for the similar looking one that has the "load" button near the eject button which takes 6 cds?

Think its the Symphony II+ but not sure, have done a search but struggling to find pics of it, cheers

Here's my understanding, such as it is:

The 'Symphony' versions of the later head units have CD changers, the 'Concert' versions are single-disc... that's basically the difference.

The Concert/Symphony 2+ have NO cassette player, and a larger screen in its place.

The 2+ (both symphony and concert) also have a quadlock connector on the rear in place of the separate connections, as well as a twin-Fakra for he antenna, so I suspect that you'll need a harness to convert from an earlier (concert or concert 2) to either a concert 2+ or symphony 2+.

The newer 2+ units also have to be VAG-COM coded for passive or active rear speakers, etc.

I have a mint condition one here on the bench, but it's a Concert 2+, not a symphony, or I'd happily sell it to you. It can be coded for USA or European stations.

You'd obviously also need to do the double-din conversion. (I'm assuming that you DON'T have a double-din Concert 2+ at the moment is that right or am I misreading?)

{EDIT]Okay, wait. I THINK I get it now... you have the 2+ already, you just want to move from a concert to a symphony... -Yours looks like this, -right?

(That's a TT version, but basically the same apart from the front panel shape)

So assuming you basically just want to upgrade from the Concert 2+ to the symphony 2+, it IS basically a plug-and play operation in terms of connectivity...

..however...

Whatever options you may have (external CD changer/glove-box ipod integration/bluetooth etc.) are coded into each concert/symphony. Each unit can be re-coded using VAG-COM, so if you DO decide to swap, I'd suggest that you have your existing unit read using a VAG-COM before removing it, to give an idea of how the new unit will need to be coded.

In mine I have the ipod integration as well as bluetooth, and when I swapped over to RNS-E, I had to match the coding preparation inside the RNS in order for it to "see" all the other goodies.

Hope this helps,

Keith

well, it's still rather less than HALF the price I see most RNS-E's go for, but if a 6-CD changer is what he wants, he'll still not have it.

You could go the glove-box changer option, of course...

I just upgraded to RNS-E myself, and I'm totally digging the SD-card slots... I also have the iPod interface though, so I don't feel the need for a changer at all.

Mind you...

Here's a bloke in Georgia who has one listed for S150, but it shows up in MY browser as being 'on sale' for $120 for 5 days... -What's that these days, about £65?

He doesn't specify if he has the code or not... I now know (-until recently I didn't) how to power one up on the bench to TEST inputting the code (if he needs to check the code validity before shipping it off) and I'm pretty sure that he ships to the UK/Europe... certainly the listing says free shipping, and also that he ships worldwide. -There's even a "or best offer" option on it!

Anyhow, I'd want to know that he has a code for it, and that he'll guarantee that the code has been tested. -If he needs to know how to do it, I can tell him which TWO pins to apply +12V to, and where to put the ground (0Volts) to power it up. -It will then ask for "code" and he can test that his code works. -If it doesn't have the code, he'll need the VIN of the car that it came from, and a US Audi dealer should be able to give you the code from that.

If they won't ship to the UK, I could forward it to you if that helps... Though I'm pretty sure that they will. Of course it will need to be VAG-COM'd for UK/European operation, since the AM radio spacing is different in the US, and the FM stations over here also don't operate on the "even decimals"... but you'll probably need to VAG-COM it anyhow.

Yeah it's less than half the price but I wouldn't want to pay out that much just to get 6 discs when the RNS-e is so much more. It was the only one on ebay uk.

£100 for the one from the US is more reasonable though :icon_thumright:

It is this one I have yes indeed, I should have done this earlier as my description is shocking, I have attached a picture (see below) as the TT one above like you say, this needs to go and 6cd head unit which is the same I am after...

cheers for that Neil

Currently just have the single cd alone, had rns-e before and the sd cards and the joystick worked for me but just cant afford £500 at the cheapest, had thought to sell the concert and buy a 6cd head unit then it would be the least cost to me as the new car has dried me out....would love an rns tho

For that price you might as well pay a bit more and get an RNS-E!

Feedbacks terrible but thats the right one that I'm after....£180 is pricey too

May consider this as the cheaper fix until I can afford an rns-e / cant get a decent priced symphony......

No worries.

-If you didn't ever get a better option, you could always get that one shipped here to me (one state away), I could plug it in, input the code to 'wake it up' and then reprogram it to UK specs using a VAG-COM (I wouldn't ever be without one!) and the re-pack it and forward it on to the UK for you...

That way it would at least be tested before shipping internationally... if anything untoward showed up, or if it didn't accept the code or whatever, he says he accepts returns...

Something to think about, anyways.

Yes, now that I've upgraded to RNS it's wonderful to have the turn directions in the display! -the wife hasn't witnessed it in all it's glory as of yet, but -funnily enough- we're heading up to Georgia this weekend as it happens, (Jekyll Island/Millionaire's Village though, so not particularly near to that seller) so this will be the first time she's seen it in action... I'm sure she'll love it, too! (If not, then I've got a lot of explaining to do about all the money I just spent on it!!! :))
