Hi all,

I have been looking on here for nearly a year now so i thought it would be appropriate for me to introduce myself.

I bought my A3 2.0TDI DSG Sport / S line :kissmyrings: in February and continue to search the forum as the info on here is very helpful. And also i gain ideas for mods, this doesn't help the bank account. :ermm:

I love the car

Here she is, I call her Megan.
(sorry for the crap quality of pics, Iphone for you...)

Now as you look closer at the interior pics, you will see the hideous gearstick and the awful modification the previous owner did to the car.

With the help of Mattandrew, (sorry for nagging you lol), I have the following parts…

Here is where I am stuck on my first mod, I haven't got a clue of how and where to start to fit these, I have read previous threads and methods from NHN and Mattandrew but if somebody, anybody could break it down even further.

I can’t even figure how to get the existing parts out… Don’t laugh please.
All help and input would be much appreciated…

Feel free to comment...

Thanks

Paul

Got yourself a very nice car and those RS6 alloys look lovely. When i removed my gear stick, i just pushed down on the ashtray so it popped up. Then you should be able to pull up the gear stick and the surround together and fit the new items. Or do you mean fitting those items together? lol

If so grab hmm whats it called lol  the leather bit of the gear stick, that should fit into the chrome surround then fit the chrome surround to the black surround should just clip in. Then just place it over the actually gear stick. Then grab the DSG gear knob and the ring shaped object and then fit it to the top of the actually gear stick you can see. And should be done. May be wrong though lol! Sorry im not good at describing lol. I would of just done it quick in my car to show you and taken photo's expect dont have my keys.
Does that make sense? lol:blush:

Cheers Benskin07, yea i understood what you meant, im not the best at explaining. BTW what are your plans for you car, engine conversion i have thoughts for mine but i cant ever see me doing it....

I'm on the iPhone also, so hopefully these links come up okay:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/h5djr/elsawin/ashtray-dsg.pdf

or have a look at the root of the site:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/h5djr/elsawin/

should be stuff listed under dsg selector, ashtray replacement etc.

Credit to whoevers site that is!

Great car btw!

Thanks for the links Tates1979, hopefully i will get on to this mod by Saturday. The silver stitching on the leather gaiter has started to come undone on a few of the sides so not very happy, I have spoke to Audi and they have ordered me another one.

Hi Rhymesaka and welcome to the 8P forum.

Here are some links to some pages from the ELSWIN electronic workshop manual. It's the same document as used by Audi dealers.

They should be of some help but if you need any more help come back to us...

centre console
dsg selector boot 1
dsg selector boot 2
dsg selector boot 3
gear change trim

Thanks h5djr for the links, again with the help of these i should be able to get this done at weekend.

I will take pictures and show the finished piece once done with a bit of a write up.

Thanks again

Paul

Hi all,

I was fitting the gearstick at weekend and i had the bright idea that rather than the smokers tray i could install the tray instead seeing as well i have ripped it all out....

Can somebody please tell me the part number and also is it just the one piece i.e. the tray i need, or are there other parts i need to install it?

Thanks in advance

Paul

Did you finish the instal, it looks like you have a problem with the new gear gaiter and the black plactic ring, they should be together, all the stiching has come lose, if you bought from audi I would send it back

Hi Matt,

Yea i took it back and they replaced it straight away....

It was only today i went to install it however ive hit a stumbling block when you go to plug the new surround it wont fit over the existing parts, if you get me, here the pictures....

What is the next step as to fit it, do i have to remove the existing bit in the 2nd picture?

Thanks

Paul

Yes you need to remove the existing black plastic section/surround on the picture below, the plug will then plug straight into the socket on the new display
