I'm pretty sure I've seen some pics that have a small drawer in the area marked with the yellow line above.

Does anyone know if it is possible to retrofit this tray and, if so, does anyone have the part number?

:friends:

EDIT: Found the part number, thanks NHN (post #4) / 8P0 941 561 J

Yes you can fit it mate, but surely arent any of them buttons being used at all or are they just blanks/spacers.

NHN is a legend and make anything possible .

Thanks mate, nice to know I'm appreciated somewhere, lol.

& Leon, guess thats the best thing about being a Moderator, deleting your posts when your wrong so you dont look stupid, lmfao, lol, sorry mate had to as my email has the update of this thread with your post in it as below for others who missed it, lol, now where's my big wooden spoon to stir & my cranking handle to wind up, what are friends for, lol

You gotta admit, its funny a mod saying use search, he does himself & comes up with completely wrong chassis, lol.

But I will follow his lead, wish others would at least try & use search facility as my 6000 odd posts (no boasting, honest) wernt just full of jokes, lol, there's some info out there of use.

Yeah, I moved the box its in about 2 feet to the right & then later moved it back again :moa:

Seriously now, got some brake cleaner spray today to clean pipes up from the oil & went to audi to go through parts so now gotta list exactly what I want then order tomorrow/saturday for next week, but will start cleaning & sorting **** tomorrow with a hope of car back on road thurs next week, but what worries me now is the head cracking with custom & hybrid as its got head part no in range of others who all have reported cracked head, so this is slightly worrying given running 220-240 soon.

Just out of interest, anyone can delete a post they have created themselves. Moderators can delete those created by others.

It was the right chassis! It's just I only read the quote in that thread the first time.

The eBay guy mentioned by SAiLO has come up trumps. :beerchug:

Part number 8P0 941 561 E 5PR / €31.09 plus shipping

Uh Lima, no he hasnt come up trumps for your facelift car, the E version is for the pre-facelift 03-08, check below with Glasses this time mate, lol.

Difference being mr moderator, when us lowsome users delete it actually shows as deleted post, but as you higher level ladies have more rights you can remove any trace of which Leon did, cant have a moderator posting incorrect info can we girls, lol.

lmao, got a bite, lol, it was wrong chassis as that link was to the 8L section & you searched for 8P no? but you saying that link was searched under 8P & came up with an 8L chassis, dont say alot for the search system then, no wonder people dont like/use it.

Oh, just for the record, I did a search of the 8P forum first.

I tried coin drawer, business card tray and a few other options. :nyah:

There was no joy, so I started this thread.

The thread I meant to link to was one where MarcQ gave part numbers for the facelift switches:

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=57932

I accidentally deleted the 2 on the end when I deleted the search terms. If you read that thread MarcQ initially says that you can't get the cup holder.

I deleted the post because after looking further I was wrong. Please don't repost things that I have deleted!

If you tried then I'm glad but as I originally said before I deleted it I did a search for 'facelift coin drawer' and got these results:

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/search.php?searchid=1268927

The thread I refer to above is in there and there's no reason why you couldn't have resurrected it once you've found it.

Not having a go by the way, I'm just saying that this forum runs really well when people do that as new members look at those threads and find out stuff they never knew. That's what's great about ASN.

As far as I'm concerned, as long as it's relevant, people should resurrect threads as much as possible! There is so much information in here that's just taking up space on the server at the moment.

I'll sleep better now you've edited my post again.

The ETKA catalogue is not publicly available is it?

VAGCAT doesn't list 09/10 parts for the 8P range.

PM me maybe I can advise on more info about etka.

So, I finally got the storage tray (but not the iPhone cradle, long story)...

...but, try as I might it looks like I will need to remove the Nav unit, or the climate control fascia, or possibly both...

Any tips on the required removals. And if I do need to take the RNS-E out, can it be done without the removal tools?

Most people over this side of the pond hate the coin holder. Coins mess up the operation and they just switch it out for a drink holder. I am laughed at for wanting to do the same mod but I hate the empty spots too. Unfortunately, you will need to buy another manifold which I got for 70 US and then remove the whole system. The current manifold will not fit the coinholder as it does not have the proper clip mechanism . Its not an easy mod for sure but it can be done. I'll post a DIY when I find it on the US forum. Get ready for some frustration for sure!

Lima, take the trim surround of around buttons, then the area that is empty atm with 3 holes is actually a seperate part itself, has 2 tabs at the top, that you push downwards & it slides out allowing tray to push in, but note you might have a wire at rear under rns to plug into coin tray rear for illumination, job done, the trim may need some minor reshaping to avoid the tray getting caught when opening/shutting, very minor mate nothing to worry about.

My part was not separate and I had to order 8PO-858-005-D. Can you post pics of your explanation please?

Yep, is there a trick to that ... and can it be done without removing the Nav unit or climate control fascia?

Well the trick would of been to open the card tray & then slowly pull the trim of carefully, as you have nothing in that gap atm you can already pull this of mate, tbh if you have radio keys just remove radio & then do it, makes it easier, but you will probably have some minor notification errors on the car network, nothing to worry about overall, vagcom helps at these times, hint hint.

According to etka page I've looked at a thousand times you have the double din chassis, then in that area you have the insert of card holder, then a seperate bracket with 3 holes in that the switches push into, its always been this way, the switch bracket has always been removable from the main plastic chassis/housing of the radio/climate control, either side to swap with card holder.

So far so good. I had some time to kill while our architect was late for a meeting, haha, so I was able to remove the other buttons which gave me better access to the outer fascia.

Once I could grab the fascia from both sides it came off pretty easily. I did a dummy run inserting the tray (pushing it in about 90% of the way) and looks like it should work.

I'll need to look into the light situation, but am not too fussed if I can't illuminate the tray. Will be handy to store business cards and not look useless like the blanks do, haha.

You'll get annoyed tbh mate if you have all buttons lit at night & card tray isnt, trust me it will niggle at you, lol.

Step 1 - Remove all the buttons
(I started from the right side by carefully prying them out with a Swiss Army Knife. The risk of scratching is high, so do this at your own peril.)

707861627_hyNvz-M.jpg

Step 2 - Remove outer trim
(It simply pulls out, but there are four smaller clips across the top and three larger clips across the bottom. Best to apply equal amounts of force at either end.)

Step 3 - Remove holding piece for blank buttons
(You’ll need a long narrow flat head screwdriver to push down the two holding clips at each top corner. Push the clip down, while pulling on the part. Might take a few goes, but is pretty straightforward.)
I didn't take a photo of this piece still in place, but you can get an idea of what it looks like in Step 1.

Step 4 – Insert the Storage Tray
(This piece has the same two holding clips at the top and you may need two push reasonably hard to get them to clip in correctly.

Step 5 – Re-fit outer trim
(Just push it back into place making sure all clips have locked in nice and tight.)

Step 6 – Re-fit remaining buttons
(You could re-fit the buttons on the left prior to fitting the outer trim if you like - as shown above - but the hazard switch can only be put back on after the outer trim has been installed.)

Step 7 – Get a bit ****** off at the alignment of the buttons
(Probably the worst aspect of the facelift interior. I’m yet to see a car where all these buttons align perfectly.)

Very good Lima, also 100% every facelift console has utterly crap alignment, mine included, they're awful huh mate.

Was there illumination for tray or not?

No illumination. As noted above, looks like there's a separate part required for that. I did get a torch and have a look and a bit of a poke around in the cavity below the nav unit on the off chance there was a loose cable waiting to be plugged in, haha. But no luck I'm afraid.

I don't see it as a major drama though, I'll just keep a few business cards in that tray and that's pretty much it. I just like the fact that it does something and there are no longer three blanks on show.

Try 000-979-009-E wire set and 4B0-971-832 and then connect to the ESP!

Try 000-979-009-E wire set, AA 017 H49 housing and 4B0-971-832 and then connect to the ESP![/QUOTE]

For what it's worth, I'll post a follow up. The illumination was a fifteen minute modification.

1)Remove the left sided manifold
2) Remove the white ESP housing
3) Remove the black wire assembly inside the white ESP housing
the black wire assembly is labeled with 4 slots 1,3,4,6. 1 is for illumination, 6 is for power, 3 is ground and 4 i don't know

4) attach 3M IDC connector (for 18-22 AWG wires) to ESP wire from the number 1 slot to the splice wire.
5) attach another 3M IDC connector to ESP wire from the number 3 position to the other splice wire.
6) Take splice wires and move them inside and around the Emerg switch(yeah its kinda obvious)
7) Connect splice wire 1 into the 1 slot on the card holder housing labeled 1
8) Connect splice wire 3 into the slot on the card holder assembly labeled 2
9) Replace everything! Your Done!

Don't know if any help but I always try to lend a helpful hand!

I've ordered 000-979-009-E & 4B0-971-832 but wanted to know what AA 017 H49 is? Is that the LED as couldnt find on etka or is the LEd already built into the tray? Any help appreciated.

Just taken the front off the drawer and there isnt an LED in there :(

anyone know the part number/s to get the necessary pieces?

In my 04 A3 there is no illumination behind the cupholder. Can this be added?

Found out that even though the part no on my card holder is the same as others, there isnt a light attached to the unit :(

Would any1 be kind enough to pull their holder out and take a few pics of the bottom and also the front, behind the fascia (it just comes off when you pull from the top, forwards.
