Well then folks; what a day!
I arrived up at my 'rents a little while ago, I've had something to eat and relayed the day's stories to my Dad (who I guess sparked my Audi enthusiasm (I've lost count of how many he's had!)); so I think it's due time I posted a few words which I feel are rather important.
I guess 'Thank You' would sum up what I want to say to all of you, but I'd like to back that up a little...
Firstly, to Calvin and Annie of
Drive By Shooters - using any metric, they put on a simply excellent show; and to be completely honest I'm absolutely gobsmacked that it was the inaugural
Audis In The Park - to anyone who didn't know any different, this could easily have been a 10 years+ established event. That in my mind, is a simply amazing acheivement. I've been in touch with Calvin this evening, and he's being extremely modest, humble even, about that acheivement. Every time I've conveyed my (and our collective) thanks and congratulations, he's responded immediately by passing credit straight back to the wider community. He's right, the community (including ASN members) deserves some thanks - and I'll get on to that shortly - but as I told Calvin - a great Orchestra only plays a Symphony perfectly when led by a great Conductor. One of the key reasons so many contingents of the Audi community pulled together is that Calvin is such an accessible, friendly, helpful, keen and genuine chap.
So, now to the community at large...
Thanks must go to all the organisations and other clubs who came out to support the event and the
Warwickshire & Northamptonshire Air Ambulance - I think everyone did justice to both; and it was great to have a more relaxed social day (as a refreshing break from the hectic track-day/drag-strip meets) - and I think everyone enjoyed sharing the atmosphere.
And the Audi-Sport.net group...
Well, I'm completely in awe of you. Each and every one of our members deserves great credit for contributing in one of the many ways which people did to ASN's impressive and successful presence at the event. The fact so many of you attended (proabably our largest showing at any event to date) was simply amazing, and your enthusiasm for and support of the event and ASN was brilliant to see. My apologies to any of you who I didn't get to have a chat with, I hope you'll understand my somewhat frenetic buzzing around our patch - and I look forward to catching up with you in future! Special thanks must go to Mark (Byzan A4) and Stacie (Purple Princess) for all their help in ensuring the day went so well, that we were well fed and watered, and that we had some great prizes for a raffle which raised a good sum for a good cause. Also to Ming Blue for her invaluable assistance in logistics (particularly in our 11th-hour mad-dash), the legendary docurley for his time and resources in helping put screen-names, cars and people together - and also his bravery in being first to spray various flammables/combustibles we found in the back of my car to help get the BBQ burning steadily (all clean buring I hasten to add!). Then to everyone else who chipped-in, (in my best Kenneth Williams voice) assisting with erections - Gazebos/Signage etc. of course! Contributing food and joining the catering staff, taking some great photos to document our triumph, supporting the raffle, and presenting a great selection of Audis backed-up by friendly and welcoming demeanour.
Testament to the commitment everyone showed in playing their part in ASN's show was our receiving the Best Club Display award. I think the title of the award is quite thought-provoking in itself. Without wishing to detract even slightly from our previous group-outings, I think something great happened today. In my eyes, Audi-Sport.net was not only a great forum, but a truly great
club too. I hope you'll all accept my most sincere thanks for helping accomplish that progression.
All the best,
Rob.
