Hi ,
After hearing from a few of my friends with cars such as land rovers defenders and toyota galanza's that have posted on their respective owners forums the build threads for their much loved cars...

3 from the 5 have later had either their cars stollen or parts removed from them.

Now i like to read and see pictures of what we are all doing with our cars as it gives me ideas what to do with mine ! but im starting to think i might be writting a shopping list for theives...

Has anybody had any problems like this???

My valve caps got nicked shortly after I put up pics of my car with new mods

Lmao. I like that.
I wouldnt worry too much about it paul, more than likely it'll just be a coinsident, unless you post up your address details etc i cant see any harm.

I think if I were a thief then build threads are the last ones I would look at.....I have mentioned away from prying eyes what would be good for thieves.
LMFAO @ tom

Ok ... hope im not proven right.

Im wondering though ... why would a build thread be the last place to look?
I mean surely somewhere that listed all the mods and how they fitted to a car would aid a theif??

You'd just look on auto trader, find a car, arrange a test drive and kick the buyer out and off you go.

put it this way....would the cars price increase massively with mods ?
thieves are thick as s**t and mods are above and beyond their comprehension

I have had 3 "feature" cars in mags,1 of them a cover car,and the **** i had with people following me home, strange cars driving up my road (I LIVE IN A CUL-DE-SAC),and just the constant looking over your shoulder etc, i couldnt be ***** with it any more.... Hence gettin the S3...

Pete...

my car isn't modded to hell or a cover car yet I had a taxi driver say wheres your S3 when I had a courtesy car so I think its horses for courses...(cul de sac and residential area)

One of my mates at work dealt with a scrote who said to him 'I've seen your scooby on your drive, and your birds mini...nice cars'.....needless to say he's looking for a new house now and a very large dog and CCTV.

One thing that put me off an S3 was that at the time a lot of front doors were being opened with chainsaws to get the keys.

that sounds awful BUT I can better that..a shotgun through the front room window and asking for the keys...in Longford.
A new S3 for me would be debadged and the calipers straight away for sleeper mode from the thieves.

Theives are thick and mods are beyond them?
What the hell !???
Please dont tell me you think all our members are good people and dont think... ive got a stock s3... i would love a big turbo for mine... or my seats are worn to hell...

look on an owners forum... people show what they have. hay ho... will pay that car a visit

ermm an old S3 (same as mine) wouldn't pop up on the radar unless it was mistook for a new one.
a modded one means a traceable one as its special

all members are good! ha...are you?

Why are you pushing for an arguement... by all mean ... im up for that but ............................. Your drasticaly missing my point. im not on about theives who just look out for posh cars to take. Im on about... S3 and TT owners that may have poorly engines... or other things that are expensive to buy.

This is why the landrovers and galanza's were taken.
he shells well most of them have been found without all the new parts either burnt out or just left ... cast aside after they had been stripped of everything saleable.

I see what you are saying. Docurley had his stolen and some parts taken and the shell destroyed. I bet that was more of a wrong place wrong time thing as the thieves had no idea i expect that the car was a one off

I have put my build in a thread and have not had any problems, i guess it depends where you live too

I do apologise Paul but no am not looking for an argument, god knows what a galanza is ?
like I said I cannot think why a modded car would get presedence over a standard one

It is easy to trace are car back to its owners
The address of the keeper is then again another easy step.

Voorhees or whatever it is...
Have you read what ive put at all?
I said a car with a fresh new turbo or set of wheels would apeal to somebody with a ******** turbo or scabby rims?

:banghead:

A Galanza is a small jap import car, Turbo'd 1.3 but people mod them to over 300bhp.

And once again I'll say no I don't think anyone would target a modded car,oh and if you don't like the answer then don't ask the question and lines like 'voorhees or whatever it is ' just make you seem a bit childish I think.
another point of view would be if the cars been modded then surely the alarm would be a hi-spec one not the oem...mine is.

...a bit like the one in your sig you mean??

<tuffty/>

Just incase you were wondering... my car is far from that spec now.
As for tracing my car back by the usual means... it will come up blank,

voorhees.
A problem with me?
I started the thread asking for points of view and to voice mine.
Im voicing it.
Alarms mean nothing realy ,
Ive had a few with good alarms and some without. To be honest... I dout the made a theif who realy wanted the car worry.

The truth of the matter is... it does happen , Im just suprised it hasnt on here. Im glad of that dont get me wrong but suprised never the less.

Tuffty... if i said it was powered by coal in my sig would it realy draw much real intrest?
I think when people are proud they want to show something off. I used to until i got wind that local scum had started to view my posts on Vag forums to see what i had.

A sig is a sig.
A build thread with photos of the car are a whole diffrent thing.

If this thread does not stay away from personal attacks and childish comments it will be closed. Simple

S3 Paul, as far as any of us are aware, no member has had their car stolen as a consequence of having a build thread.[/end]

You have already stated

so your sig is now officially less interesting...

I think when people are proud they want to show something off. I used to until i got wind that local scum had started to view my posts on Vag forums to see what i had.

Couldn't agree more but regardless of the accuracy of your sig, its still gonna make um think if they really are out to get you...

Not sure I agree, your sig (however inaccurate) still suggest the mods you have done to your car... it IS a shopping list and I quote you from your first post...

..you already have done in your sig and by your own admission

No offence mate and this is not a dig as I do have reservations myself (and despite starting my own 'build' thread recently, I am still one for keeping a low profile when it comes to my car) but this post and your comments is full of contradictions and I can no longer see the point in pursuing this further if this is gonna continue...

<tuffty/>

Ive checked the smileys... there isnt one for heads inside bottoms so...

I hope it doesnt happen, BUT if it does...
Might quieten a few,

It happens.
A sig can easily be full of lies. A build thread shows what the car realy has.

As for the link to my old dyno read out. Yep thats how my car was. What i meant was... a check more in depth that a search on ASN wouldnt locate my car.

Im past caring what people think now.

oh dear... :(

I hope it doesnt happen, BUT if it does...
Might quieten a few,

I hope it doesn't too but I don't think there is enough evidence of this at least in this argument so if anyone wants to continue and bring this thread back on topic then lets do it :)

So, your sig by your own admission isn't representative of your current cars spec... I can only assume that it was at one point based on some of your previous posts in other threads otherwise your sig is 'full of lies' as you have put it. As for 'A build thread shows what the car realy has'... If (for instance) you had done a build thread when you first had your car modded then changed the spec as you say you have done, your build thread would not be representative unless of course you updated it accordingly. A build thread is only as representative as you make it. I cannot see the difference between a sig shopping list and a build thread in terms of establishing a cars spec... you don't need pictures when you have 'Nogi blue 2001 S3' and 'JBS K05 turbo conversion' to work out the car might be something some scum bag could make some cash on.

As for the link to my old dyno read out. Yep thats how my car was. What i meant was... a check more in depth that a search on ASN wouldnt locate my car.

Still don't get this one as you state

'It is easy to trace are car back to its owners
The address of the keeper is then again another easy step.
'

..and you still insist that your car can't be found? The dyno print has your personal number plate and last name on it, your forum name has your first name on it. I am sure that if pros wanted your car they could fined it and you have already suggested they can... Do you have 'Stealth Bomber' mod we don't know about?

Im past caring what people think now.

I'm sorry to hear that but like I said before, I am not out to get you in anyway, just highlight discrepancies in your argument the same I would anyone else's.

Your thread/discussion is a valid one, but you can't argue that a shopping list in a sig if different to a build thread with regards to establishing a cars suggested spec...

Lets get this discussion back on track or get it closed...

Wow, Some people get so emotional over a car forum...

If you want to show your car off then show it off, People are out everyday to steal cars and its just bad luck for those who are targeted. My friend had a 600BHP Evo that had thousands spent on it and thievs used it to ram a bank with? They burnt it out afterwards and to them it was just a car not 15k's worth of Evo, They dont even know what there looking at.....
Maybe you should of thought about the risk of it getting it stolen before you bought it? Doesnt have to be spotted over a Audi forum for people to steal it, You could drive past someone and it could catch there eye?

Just put your keys next to your bed along with a bat if your that paranoid. :whip:
