S4 BUYING ADVISE PLEASE

the alloys are not RS4, but look to be mtm reps not too many around

the car looks reasonable vfm - the prices for S4's have picked up recently, some people will pay a premium for nogaro blue

main thing is to get the car properly health checked BEFORE you buy it - this will reveal any thing that may be up

the one shown could be fine as it has been mapped by MRC who will put anythinng right before mapping

the interior is not the recaro one, this counts against it in my eyes

have a look further on pistonheads as it gives you an idea of spec and applicable price

get over to audisrs.com for more info on buying S4's

have you driven an S4's yet?, my advice although simple is to test drive it and don't buy the 1st one you see. get it checked out. You will only know when you drive others. They dont look excatly like RS4 wheels, you might like the look the front bumper S4 grilles have been modified to make it a bit like an RS4

ive been to look at about 4 or 5 now i got the yea mate its a minter you wont be disapointed come and look.ive driven as far as glasgow and luton to look at these cars and they have been absolute dogs so not even bothered to drive them. i havnt even been in a s4 before so havnt got a clue what to expect

you defo want an avant?

i probably would upset some people on here although the noggy blue is a lovely colour i would look for something different
what about this? Linky also i would only go for facelift, whats your budget?

Both cars look good. Mauve purle is a rare one! If you are test driving them check for any whistles (could be a sure sign of turbos). Alloys on the noggy do look like mtm reps. As rasa4 has said, check out the audisrs site and also the rs246 site. Both sites have practically everything you need for buying these toys.

i have spoken to this chap about this car he says its a good one but the pixels have gone in the display and the wheels need a refurb does look like a nice car though i have £7000 to spend but wouldnt mind trying to get one for about £6500 so i have enough to get any bits sorted out

i have never had a turbo car before ive always had the 2.8 and the 3.0 audis just sold my a4 3.0 quattro b6 and im missing it already ive been looking at s4 for a while and now i can finally get one but i dont want to buy a bad un. i would love an imola yellow one but i dont think im gonna find one of those :3sadwalk:

On the noggy one.... give MRC a call (if you haven't already). If its a tidy S4 (whatever one you get), you won't regret it. They are good cars.

will they have a record of the car being remapped there and of any issues with the car

I assume they would have done a healthcheck, only 1 way to find out call them.

i would prefer an unmodified S4, as other have said possibly not genuine allys who know what else is not genuine.

Wayne if i was you i would go and have look at that noggy one, (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1158853.htm) i've got an S3 at the moment and i've had a look a few S4's and they're nice car, i've driven a standard 265bhp and sat in a 320bhp and the difference is massive, put a massive grin on my face:)

its just all this health check stuff how im i supposed to get a car checked out when its not my car i mean i cant say ok mate im just taking your car to be checked out before i buy it mate to see if its fine hell just laugh in my face.ok it might look and sound ok but ive been reading about all these sensor code errors which show up on vag.com and if it needs new sensors im looking at about £500

im not on about the noggy blue one im talking about s4s in general

im sorry for bothering you guys im being a right noob here

im sorry for bothering you guys im being a right noob here

Don't be sorry chap, that's what we're here for ;)

Many of us could talk about S4's for hours,.................bore you to death in fact.

i also enquired about this one dan hes set his reserve at £8000 and will not take a penny less

Yeah.

I'd happily own/drive a good Cat D car, but I certainly wouldn't pay a premium for it.

By the time I'd done a K04 conversion and upgraded the standard suspension and brakes etc, I could have easily bought a genuine RS4.........with no Cat D thorn in my side.

im driving my wife mad at the moment im never off the net looking on autotrader and pistonheads hoping for a nice example to come up for sale ive had £7000 burning a hole in my pocket for 2 weeks now i hope i dont just buy one for the sake of having one

dont rush into it mate, took me 6 months to get mine, 2000(X) noggy blue, facelift, bose, recaros half leather alacantra all the things wanted so took me a while to get it bt i had it for £4500..............be patient

When craig baught his we took the laptop along and scanned it which showed up a throttle body fault.

Was quite a useful bartering tool, the guy tried to claim it was just a sensor but we pointed out the sensor was part of the throttle body and the whole unit cost £300, and ended up getting that knocked off the asking price.

6 months wow, i thought i was bad looking for 2 weeks, they do say every thing comes to he who waits, but i never have any luck

which ever one you decide to go for make sure its the rite one, try and get someone with vagcom like the boys said to go with you to check the car out, unfortunately i didnt have such luck and 2mnths after buying the car it needed a new lambda sensor and DV and nw looks likely to have summin else wrong with it, off to PW motorsport sat to get it checked out. these S4's can get expensive:( so be ready for anything that comes along as it will cost atleast double of a normal A4.

not trying to put you off though mate, go for it!!!

Took me months of emailing sellers all over the country,......and then found a beauty in a village just 13 miles away.

blue alacantra leather recaro's, these i gotta see S4twiggy

rasA4
"it wasnt me it was Fraser"
oops sorry, misread.

It took me nearly a year before my search ended. The one i spotted, had just been sold :crying:, then about 4 months later it came back up for the sale as the original sale had fallen through . Like a red rag to a bull it was sitting in my drive less than two weeks later :).

As others have said, just because the money is burning a hole in your pocket, it pays to wait and get the best one available or it could cost you alot to repair, if you buy a dog (and not realise).

S4twiggy.. same spec interior as mine then.

If that £7k is burning that much of a hole in your pocket... i'm a good charity.

that looks quality mate are these rare to find in s4s

dunno bout the rareness about them to be honest mate but to get my noggy blue with this interior was a search an a half, thats wot took me so long to find my S4, i wanted a specific spec so i as so happy to find this one, dont think too many got the interior that aint noggy blue but dont quote me on it, you can get half leather recaros in diff colours too mate, the cream ones ive seen are very nice!!

Thanks Twiggy nice interior esp with recaros, does the seat base section pull out like the full leather recaros?

on the healthcheck - any genuine owner with nothing to hide will actively want to prove that the car is in good nick

when i sold mine i vagcom'd it for all viewers and had no problem with it going to MRC or Unit 20 for a healthcheck at the buyers expense - circa £50 for the check

seriously - take your time, i looked for nearly 6 months, chap on audisrs spent nearly 2 years looking for the car he wanted!

Bare in mind, purple is the fastest colour......:undwech:

As other have said, be patient . The right car is out there for you
