Does anyone know if or how you can remove the headlight glass from the main headlight part? :uhm:
 
Ive read that peaple heat up the headlamp glass and then carefully prise it away from the main headlamp bit. A few have done it to paint the inside of their headlamps. Hope this helps. Im thinking of doing it to replace my lenses because their covered in stone chips, just need to get hold of some new lenses if i can

No need for new lenses mate. Get yourself some wet and dry and sand the marks out. Get down to about 2000 grit or even up to 3000 if you have the time and then polish them clear.

I did the ones on my brothers Civic a few days ago and they're better than brand new :)
 
One of my headlights is discoloured (yellow tinge)

I would also like to know if the lens will come off?? so I can try and clean the inside, Dont want to buy a whole new light.

I have got a set of new halogen lamps facelift shape if your interested. different insides but same lenses. they have some broken parts inside that hold the bulbs but if you only want the lenses....
 
A3Tom, never heard of anyone doing that before. Are you sure the same would work on the s3. Arent the lenses plastic???

s3ollie, Would be interested if i cant sort them any other way, they really do look pants when marked and spoil the look of the front end
 
Cheers guys, the reason i was asking...
I was thinking of putting LED running lights along the inside of the lens, like the new A5 etc has, What would you reckon to this, or too chavvy?
P.S please dont lynch me if you disagree! lol
 
I'm thinking of tinting the inside housing of my facelift headlights as well, I know a lot of people do it on their civic's by putting the lights in a moderately heated oven for a few minutes to soften the silicone and then price the pence off the cluster.
 
Yes you can use a heat gun to soften the sealant up to split the lense & main plastic housing, you can also stick it in the oven for few minutes, but I would use the gun personally as I did on my headlights some time back, just take time cause can melt the plastic easily trust me.
 
I think the day time led lights would look good! As long as they are done well, if they are bodged then they'd look cack in my opinion. Only thing that would worry me is if a couple of the led's blew, then you've got the massive hassle of taking them all apart again.
 
Right thats convinced me i'll get it done sometime in my MONTH off for summer leave at the end of this week then, Let you know how it goes!
 
Personally mate i think your car looks great as it is, i wouldnt spoil it with some A5 lookalike lighting. Only my own opinion though!

It can be done, if you do a search, you will find that someone has done it with his foglights and the end result is excellent.

Finally done my headlamps, they look amazing. I never thought they would come out so good. Started off with 600 wet and dry paper to get rid of the worst chips and scratches and worked through the grits to finish with 1500 grit, then used a rubbing compound and finally some normal polish. When i first started with the 600 i thought i had completly knackred the lights up, they just went a hazzy white and i didnt think i would ever get them clear again but after ages of rubbing down they looked brilliant and only cost a few quid to do. Result!!!

You didnt attempt to take them apart and spray them then?
 
No, i never intended to spray them just wanted them looking like new again. Will try an get some pics up a.s.a.p

Wow, looks great...The first pic you put up i thought looked terrible until i saw the rest and realised that was a 'before' pic!

So where did you get the paper from...Halfords?
 
Out of interest, anyone know where i can pick up one of the rubber pieces that sit above the light and what the bonnet sits on? I have one missing!
 
Cheers mate, yeah i did put up the pics the wrong way round, doh. You could get one of them from the dealers or just go round some scrap yards for a look
 
Sorry forgot to say i bought the paper from halfords which only goes down to 1500, but someone said that you can get 2000-3000. 1500 worked fine for me with rubbing compound.
 
I need to split my lights on the S3 as i somehow managed to drop the side light bulb inside when i was removing it!
So if anybody has done this could you please let me know how much of a chore it is or if anybody has any tips as to how i could remove it without too much hassle please let me know

just remove the light unit from the car and you will be able to get the bulb out through hole at the back
