basicaly i like my 1.8t quattro sport but its a bit slow even with a chip and about 200bhp. i fancy putting a t28 on some day but then its the hassle of a new custom downpipe etc and getting it chiped to run properly. i would think you can get a realistic safe 300bhp this way but with the price of s4's getting less all the time is it worth the hassle when you can buy one with a simple chip and have 300bhp with no hassle? how many people are running a t28 set up?

personally I would stick with the 1.8t. but then I am baised.
its the ease of working on them that sold it to me. drop a turbo out of an S4 and you are looking at an engine out or a £900 bill.

as far as custom pipes etc for the 1.8t. there are some very affordable manifolds and downpipes available for the 1.8t and numerous kits

PAG have a lovely set of T25 kits for around the $1900-2000 mark. all drop in.
otherwise a custom downpipe is not that much hassle. I have to get one soon!!
I was going to go down the route of their vband log manifold but I have a tubular one in the build. Arnold and Al will give you all the info you need and they are a Eurodyne dealer so you can drop in a premapped ECU for a MAF equipped set up.
I have never come across anyone that needed any tweaking to the remaps that they have got.

I love the V6 sound and torque curve but everything from exhausts to engine components seem to be so much more expensive. including insurance.
If you ever want more you are buying two manifolds, two turbos, six pistons etc etc

I don't think you would be saving money selling yours to buy an S4 to them start tweaking brakes and suspension to run 300bhp.

Yep 1.8T cheap to run cheap to fix and there are lots of cheap affordable tuning stuff for the 1.8T, just pop over to Audizine there's a GB going on every week.

Buy the S4 and give me the TQS?

Worth a punt,lol

Seriously keep the TQS and stick a turbo on, you can have a reliable >300 for under £2000. If you had an S4 it seems as its a V6 everything is double the cost. The running costs are quite high too, a 1.8t can still provide good economy off boost even when tuned

thats what i had thought about the 1.8 being better economy.if you can get an off the shelf down pipe and manifold tht would be half the battle. the only other thingthat puts me off is he ecu in my car uses the burn once only chips instad of flashable ones so its prob going to cost more to get done. a nice safe 300bhp would make it a much better car.

nope, off the shelf DP and Mani available at PAG and INA. $ isn't that bad and shipping is OK.
If you are willing to trust the numerous users in Europe and the US then Eurodyne is a no brainer. you can either ship your ECU over of just get another. $200 ECU $750 MAP
you can tweak and log through VAGcom.

i have the standard ecu that was in my car spare with the standard map on it. sounds like this may be a plan when i get more cash i could get everything i need including the ecu side of it and just swap everything over one weekend.

that is what i am aiming for
I asked Arnold at PAG for a price for the A4 kit as it is not on their site. I am jut sbuying some bits from him as we speak so will let you know

if i had money just now we could have maybe got 2 of everything and maybe have saved a bit.

Ed. what ECU is it thats tweakable via OBD port mate?

Why a VR6?

For 300hp i'd either T28 the 1.8T, or install a V8.

The S4 motor is pretty expensive to run and maintain, and will also only make around 300hp before you need to drop 2 grand on new turbos etc
