Powerflex Bushes on S3 Sportback - RESULT

After my fuel pump had failed i took my car to AmD to get it fixed. While there the Powerflex bushes that I ordered had arrived. They took about 3 to 4 weeks to come as the are made to order.

First thing is they are quite expensive, 4 times more than normal rubber bushes. Also they take a very long time to fit, 2 days to be exact! So why did i get them?

After spending a healthy amount on the KW V3's, H&R anti roll bars and the OZ alleggerite's is seemed negligent to not upgrade the parts that connect them to the car! A week spot as it were.

The supply and fitting cost around £900. You may ask is it worth it? I feel it absolutely is.

Upon driving out of AmD the first thing I noticed was the steering was much sharper. The wheel felt slightly heavier but the slightest movement and the car reacted. Round corners the car feels much more controlled, there is a lot more feedback to tell you what the car is doing. Also when traction is lost for example in a 4 wheel drift you are much more certain and in control of the car.

It has really transformed the feel of the car. Ben at AmD thought I was a little crazy to spend £900 on bushes but I feel it was well worth it.

If anyone is thinking of having coilovers fitted then get the Powerflex bushes as well, you wont be disappointed!

Sounds like a good improvement over the stanard bushes. And as you said they could be the weak spot as every thing else around them is upgraded. How long have you had them on the car for? £900 wow! But by the sounds of things, they have transformed the car! Do you have any more mods planned? Good write up aswell.

Have you had your Fuel pump fixed at AMD under Warranty?

Something that will interest me greatly though in the future is perfected handling of the car as the S3 is my first "hot hatch" so to speak and will want the best out of it!

Yes, the majority of the cost is labour, it took them two days!

AmD did fix the pump under warranty!

Harsh is absolutly NOT the word I would use. Planted, firm, certain, stable, responsive, accurate....

The ride is certainly not harsh!

Sorry Tom, i didn't explain it properly. My fuel pump has Autotech internals, these internals have a warranty, this is how it was replaced.

I do, but its basically every bush that Powerflex do was put on my car. I believe it was around 20 in total!

Without doubt. You feel much more intune with the car. There is much more feedback and response. The steering is stiffer since the bushes have been fitted which is a nice feel too. Its just so much more responsive! Im stuck at work now, i just wanna go for a drive!

Could have something to do with the non-resonated Miltek that's now on there too.... What a lovely noise that makes. Did have the resonated version but as that developed a crack i had it replaced with the non resonated part..... Absolutely love it. Idle is the same and cruising is the same but low rpm reving, ie pulling away and flooring it sound AMAZING!

I'd love to do the works to mine but I'm in the process of buying a place so everything has been put on hold for now.

Long term goals Staz.... Well, I'm very interesting in water meth injection. I want to reach close to the 400bhp mark on the K04.... Well, as close as I can! Weight reduction is high on the list, possible carbon bonnet and boot and any other panels I can afford! Haldex controller once I know the haldex i got it ok and not going to start whining on me again.

My biggest worry at the moment is the problem I have with the slow gear changes. Some say its the gear box, other say its the clutch flywheel set up. The only way of finding out is when the car needs a new clutch get the whole lot done again with a set up i know that works like the one off Andys car....

So, in short: Fix gear change problem, haldex controller, water meth, weight reduction, DONE!
