just fitted coilovers.and the wheels wont go on :(

just fitted some coilovers i put one wheel on the front and the wheel is hitting the side of the coilover on the thread:keule:so i got some 3 mm spacers put them on and its still rubbing,off to the shop again and got some 6mm spacers fitted them and its still rubbing slightly but on full lock the wheel is hitting the side of the coilover my tyres are 225/40/18
what size spacers do i need?? and is this commom on the audi a3 1.8t sport??
 
what coily's have you fitted & how low have you gone, any pics to show where its hitting?
 
Its common for the ARB links to touch the driveshafts if you have lowered a lot, not heard of / or exprerienced any problems at all sorts of levels of lowering. What make are they?

Were the wheels fitting ok before? If they were new to the car at the same time as the coilies, what offset are they?

the wheels were fitted to the car before i fitted the coilovers they are rs8 alloys and i have lowered it about 80mm on the front 65mm on the back the coilovers are jom.
when i am on full lock the tyre hit the side of the spring??realy unsafe!
do you think 15mm spacers would help it from rubbing

lol dont worry i have put a sump guard on :) and 80mm isent low to me :)
the reason i fitted coilovers is becouse if i want to go low i can!and if i feel i want to raise it i can:thumbsup: lol
 
80mm, ur mad, good luck but tbh thats to low IMHO
 
What is the offset of your wheels? It will be printed on the inside of the spokes or on the face of where it connects to the hub. I'm suprised that if they are ET35 with the correct tyres, that it's catching on your coilovers. I reckon you have high offset wheels, something like ET42/45 which is your problem.

I'm only guessing though....

i have lowered my car on coilovers and my ARB links are rubbing on the driveshafts everytime i go round a corner, is this due to it being lowered to much? i also get a knocking noise when i go over un even road surfaces from the front of the car mainly the front offside suspension, i jack the car up and the top mounts fall but when the car is on the ground the top mounts go up and there is a big gap from the top mount to where they are suppose to be sitting. if this is the case for the knocking noise, how can i sort it out?

see I didn`t mention them 1st jojo now someone please show me the elusive RS8 ..................................

nothing wrong with rs8's every one to there own! we do all have are own taste's! if we all had the same taste the forum would be rather boring!:rolleyes:

Not to mention the front Chin spoiler. Looks like its got a crack in it already.
Would fancy driving that over the speed ramps we have down here in devon. OUCH :noway:
 
i will go back to my question that i asked from the start (not how low i have dropped the car and if it will scrap)what spacers will i need?does anyone recommend a good set of spacers?what is the limit by mm for spacers

If you can tell us the offset of the wheels as asked we can tell you how much spacer you need. You will also need longer bolts too.

Also so far you have not confirmed the make either
 
as above i mentioned they are JOM coilovers,
i will check out the offset tomorrow

Id say 10 on front and 15/20 on back.

Dont worry about other peoples opinions on your car Ads its nice and from what i saw yesterday and isnt going to rip the sump off, and we tackled some shity roads at speed :)

Go down to Mike stokes in Winton, There all top blokes in there and know alot about Wheels and exhausts.....I managed to get my bolts and locking wheel nuts from there for the S3 for a fair price.

I saw the car yesterday JoJo and he will be fine with 10 on front and 15 on back....Wheels have funny offset but forgot to cheak what they were.
 
take the wheels off altogether - slammed and no rubbing (2 in 1 solution).

call me einstein :)
 
Dont think it would do the disks much good but im sure there will be pros and cons :)
 
damn you taking a bit of stick petrol head for how low your car is get off his d*&% guy's he's just asking for advice not stupid remark if he damages his car that's up to him ....did you sort it by the way i was thinking of getting them jom are they stiff or good whats the ride like petrol head

The point i think your missing is the wheels are A8 reps and not the imaginary RS8 as alot of people like to call them.

I think your car looks good that low.:salute:

there is always a few d**ks on forums that think they no it all and there car is the best in every way lol.best way is just ignore them!I'm sure if i seen there car i would give a lot of opinions!!!

i have just ordered some 20mm spacers :)

Heioght is your problem. Raise it up and it wont hit. I found this too. The suspension angle means the lower it is the close the wheel is...So raise it a (fair!) bit and it will work.

Also that height is riduculous...you will not clear speed humps, and will take off your sump on a bump too...Not a good idea. Remember is a cast alloy sump, so wont dent...it will shatter. put 3mm on front (6mm track) and 5 mm (10mm track) on the back for a extra bit of clearance
