Evoms CAI fitted! Now with added engine cover.

FYI:- Evoms kits do not fit 09 Audi A3 2.0T's :-(

After much fannying around at the rolling road day today and ripping it all to bits there is no way it will work, the MAF lead is short by about 6 inches there is nowhere for the secondary air to vent too, the heat shield stands no chance of fitting and its generally a very poor fit all round.

The only good thing was ive discovered there is a propped tool for removing the metal clips on pipes and save destroying yourself and the car with pliers.

I'm surprised the cable is too short. There was loads of slack on mine. You could always extend it! Easy :icon_thumright:

What do you mean secondary air vent? Do you mean the hose that sticks out of the part that comes straight off of the turbo?

And what prevents the heat shield fitting?

We offered it up against a VRS Octy and the engine bay is a completely different lay out, my MAF cable comes from the passengers side of the of the engine bay behind the battery. I contemplated extending it but shouldn't have to start hacking the loom and defiantly wont be in a 09 car with 2000 miles on it.

Nope not off the turbo comes from the top of the block on the passengers side around the coil packs and was very oily inside and connects to the intake just before the 90 deg bend down to the turbo.

Not having anything anywhere close to bolt it on with, not even close.

staz your car sounds nice on the video did you end up fitting the froge dv and spacer , Are these easy to fit and do you know if theres a how to thread on this .....

Warrencox has done a great "how to" for the Forge DV - even I could follow it no problem. Took me about 30 mins to do. Easy.

is the Evoms kit made for s3? Because s3 and a3 2.0t are slightly different engines. s3 runs K04 turbo with relocated DV, and a3 runs K03.

I haven't fitted anything other than the CAI mate. I don't think I need to as I seem to get all the DV noises just with the Evoms!

S3 poRn there Staz - making my decisions a hell of a lot easier! Sounds immense!

Just bide your time mate, it'll be so worth it!

UPDATE:

I was waiting for Regal to get back to me about the EVOMs engine cover but they never did and the idea went out of my head. I was just doing a bit of thread searching and found this:

http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=63050

I followed the link and found that they have the engine cover there for only $109!

http://www.parts4euro.com/DCShop/product_info.php?products_id=435

Postage to UK is $45. Paid through Paypal it came to £96.10. That's cheaper than Regal without postage!

Pics will be up when it's fitted :rockwoot:

Good find Staz mate..... I think you will be the first to post pic's of it applied to an S3... :D

Yeah I think so! I'm surprised no one has had one before though.

I've had to put the Miltek etc plans on hold for now but this will tide me over for a little bit :)

Probably something to do with the prices here in the UK ;)

I said no more modding, then got the Haldex controller off A3Simon for a very good price lol
Looking forward to trying that out :)

No, but you're hoping to soon aren't you? I was spying on you! lol

Ahhh, you were following that were you lol
Yeah, hope to have it fitted this weekend, without the switch initially, so defaulted to sport, which i'm told is a big difference to stock anyway - think i'll add the switch later... in time for ADI ;)

Cool! I was thinking of getting it myself but had to stop myself. Like I seem to have to do just about everyday with this car! lol

Know that feeling! Unfortunately stumbled on this page and I have some holidays soon...arghhh. :shutup2:

lol... mate you're slipping down that slope BIG time ;)

I like that page very much!

I'm thinking, when the time is right, that I'm better off getting a HPFP and then Revo, rather than Exhaust and Revo. What do you guys think?

Cheaper and better gains from what I can work out.

Add the down pipe, spots cat and milltek centre section, married to the oem back box and you're on a winner ;)

I don't think this is a good plan Staz - the HPFP needs Revo Stage 2+ to bring it to life and (from what I remember but I am 99% sure this is right) Revo stipulate that you need an Intake, full turbo back exhaust with 3" downpipe and the HPFP for Stage 2+ to be available for your car. I think you need the full package. Always the sodding way isn't it ?

Not quite right that Iggu - I think warrencox has the HPFP and standard intake and exhaust with the 2+ map - Revo fitted it for him and he says the car is now a beast in the mid range ;)

Interesting all the variations on a theme that are developing :)

To put it simply....... if you want to do stage2+ safely and on the cheap fit a D/P (mated to the stock cat back as mentioned already) and do a HPFP. The sock intake isn't ideal but i'd sooner see a stock intake than a stock D/P!

there's never going to be a cheap way of getting power and any corners that are cut (i.e stock exhaust) are at the consumers own risk, we support a given spec for a reason...... that reason being that it's the best way to extract reliable and consistent power gains from these engines!

I'm not saying it's not possible but there is potential for damage to the engine if you're not running at least the basic hardware spec.

Hope this helps!

Really if I want to go ahead it's all or nothing.

Gotta get on the ladder first though

you're getting there ;) be patient it's much more satisfying that way :)

Interesting point there Carl....you may remember my car had a misfire after the Stage2+ software and HPFP,and was also running the stock intake but the full Miltek exhaust.

Anyway, after you'd kindly datalogged it,and I'd used injector cleaner etc etc, fitting a Forge CAI seems to have cleared the problem,so it may well have been airflow limitation at peak RPM causing the problem.

For sure! I've done well so far and I'm not bored of the power as it is either

It's harder when I have my deposit in the bank............lol

So true......after the Stage2+ mods done to mine, incl the Forge CAI and DV,etc,I've just got rid of the nasty Bridgestone RE050 tyres and next would be the suspension and possibly brake pads.

Now to find enough hours to work to pay for it all :banghead:

I don't mind the Bridgestones to be honest. Looking at Vredstains next though.

I really wish I could do overtime in my job. With my girlfriend in another country I could save up a fortune!

I had quite a few here recommend the Eagle F1 Assymetric, which is what I've bought.
The RE050 has little progression coupled with awful wet grip and not great dry grip.....the F1 does feel way better.

I already get more than enough overtime with my job,but my family spend it before I even see the cash!
