car insurance prices WTF !!!!!!!!!!

I'm 23, 2 year ncb, decent post code, paying £156 a month for fully comp with admiral. Am I getting screwed, 'cause it feels like I am!!?

...Didn't have much choice, everywhere I called just told me they wouldn't insure anyone under 25 on a "performance car". :(

Actually mines not as much as I thought it was. its £810 for the Audi.

I just called them for a quote on my cossie, £1145 :noway:
And the girl I was speaking too had never heard of a Sierra, or Cosworth. Whats the world coming too?

I'm 24, paying £1800 with Admiral, 0yr NCB

Got 2004 A4 (B6) 1.8T Quattro

:haudrauf:

Ouch! 0yr NCB due to first insurance policy, or other reason?

I've personally never paid over £1k for car insurance, started from the the bottom @18 years old paying £500 for a 1.3 Mk2 Golf on 3rd Party, and slowly building up NCB and getting nicer and faster cars along the way.

OMFG £3k+ a year and your 33. surprised (no) noclaims and 6 points would put it up that much.

Whats your postcode? baghdad?

one of the ruffest parts of manchester ...crapper aint it and essthree sorry just cant afford a zonda mate and where i live it would last about 3 seconds so would your porshe ....lol

poxy a3 mmmmmnnn:think: says the golf lover :nyah:

there's nothing wrong with a3's....

Same thing happened to me with elephant.co , l was the proud owner of the first Mk4 R32 in the uk. They had never heard of it and l got insured for £600, with zero no claims and 33, full comp.

One of the reasons I'll stay 'up north' where crime is uber-low and insurance rates mean I can have what I want without the scum-bags deciding they want it.

In saying that...I still keep my cars garaged, in a secure and alarmed garage.

No, indeed there isn't...
But at that sort of cash...it's still a poxy A3...a mass market, FWD hatchback. Nothing more...
Good as they may be...for me, paying that to insure one just doesn't add up.

A Golf is just the same, generic FWD hatchback too...nothing more.
I have no issue seeing that.

But of course, I forgot that an A3 is an Audi...and hence further up the pecking order....but £3000 PA further up the pecking order, in my book.

The point I was trying to make was that for £270 a month...I'd want something a bit more special than a ****** A3!
For that, it would need to be properly exotic - Enzo, Carrera GT, Zonda etc.
not a mass market hatchback - no matter who makes it or which version it is.

I appreciate that where you live has a huge bearing on things...but £3240 a year just to insure an A3?
Holy sh*t!

Just bent Adrian Flux over the table and rogered them!

My insurance is up for renewal on the 28th of this month and they quoted me £669.39 (i'm 29, 7yrs NC and had 1 SP30 in 2005).

Put my details into Moneysupermarket, got the lowest price £382. Called AF and told them the good news. New quote (now with NC protected) £381.

Pint anyone?

Good work there, I always call Flux last and they have nearly always delivered the final quote in beating all the other quotes. Though one year, Greenlight was a better price for some reason or another, despite me having 10 years NCB!

Why does adding an older person to your policy get you a cheaper price??

Geezer at work got quoted £700 just for him, but adding his wife brought the premium down to £650

I just don't get the logic behind that!

Does the insurance company do something like change the terms&cons of your policy when adding someone else to it???

Not sure...but adding your partner tands to take it down also, even if she (or he!) is younger.

I think it's to do with splitting the driving and potentially being less tired.

So they assume that because you've stuck someone else on your policy you are going to split the driving with them  and not just drive the car at different times which kind of doubles the risk of an accident etc.
Bit naive, ain't they!

No, I think it's adding a spouse to your policy that brings the price down a little, as they see you as a family man with more responsibilities(yeah right). Maybe married men are safer drivers in general statistic wise?

Flux sorted me out too.

Loads of quotes were all £700 plus due to mods, I'm 28 with 10 years driving and max NCB.

Flux cover me for under £400 fully comp :)

You have to be so hard-nosed when it comes to these things. Afterall, they're the first in the queue to bend you over the desk so why not! That 270 odd squids will go towards my new Sachs clutch/G60 flywheel thankyou very much AF.

renewal quote from morethan was £438 did a online quote morethan quoted 326! when i called to complain some overseas customer service dept told me cancel renewal and take online quote. cancelled renewal and was going to do online quote when received call from morethan asking why cancelled after explaining online quote etc and that tesco offered it for £297 but large excess they said sorry we'll give you it 296.95 with your mornal excess protected no claims and my breakdown etc. happy but discusted think of the people who just accept the renewal prices! over £141 cheaper with same company after a bit of a debate:thumbsup:

NEVER accept the automated sent out renewal quote, who the hell does?! Always cheaper to phone around, it'll cost you a few quid in phone calls max and maybe 30 minutes of your life, but saving are out there to be made!

Very true Jojo, a few phone calls trading one off against the other pays dividends! Don't be tempted to remain loyal, cos sure as hell they won't! :bye:

It always annoys me how their "Best deal" can be improved when you hit them with a more favourable quote!

I only found out how much the postcode affects you last night. At my mum's in North Wales £530, here near Reading £830!

It's the old rock and hard place situation, I suppose.
Not a nice place to be.

I admire you for spending it to have a decent car. I'm not sure I would.
