How long to fit new suspension?

hello again,

Right I've finally decided on what suspension I'm going for but I'm wondering how long it should take a garage to fit?

I'm going for Koni FSD's and kw springs (on a friends reccomendation as I have to drive an incredibly bumpy road everyday to work matachams lane if anyones a southerner!)

Some one has quoted me 5 hours labour for this! surely this can't be right?

Seems pretty high to me aswell.maybe 3 hours?taking there time in 3 hours I mean.considering the have the car lifts,air tools etc.I'm fitting my kw kit this weekend to my 1.8t and it'll only take me around 3 hours using propa manual labour lol.try asking a local audi specailist first to see what prices they can give you

rear 30 mins a side, front poss up to 1 hr per side max all depends on things coming apart right.

I did my shocks & springs on my own last Friday. (Weitec 20mm/15mm Ultra GT from DPM) Started at 1630 and was finished by 2030, but was not hurrying and using stands as I have no ramp. Oh, and replaced the front discs and pads while I was at it...

Fairly easy job to do yourself. The hardest bit was compressing the front strut enough to slide it up out of the hub assembly, even with the spring compressors on!!

Make sure you change the top mounts at the same time (Only £20 in parts from eurocarparts)

A good garage with the right tools and a ramp, should have it all done in under 3 hours easy.

I'd have said 4 hours would be about right...depends on how rusty some of the bolts are, but 4 hours should cover it.

If they are including a full 4 wheel alignment in there, then they are about spot on...as the alignment can easily take an hour or more.

Are you also fitting the adjustable rear tie-bars?

The garage have them on order and are going to fit them if they think its needed, they reccon cos its only a small drop that the alinement would be alright, the guy seemed to know what he was talking about so we will wait and see!

No the 5 hours quoted wasn't for the allinement as well, they reccommended that I drove the car for a 100 or so miles to let the springs settle before they get that set.

It all depends on how things come apart, like glen said, if i were quoting for just shocks and springs i would stick 4 hrs down to be safe. As sometimes time taken during diss assembly can save a lot more time re drilling snapped bolts and the like

How much lower should it be?
Anything over 10mm and I'd suggest you need the rear tie bars...so save your rear tyres.

That's fair enough...letting the springs settle is a good idea. I doubt you need the full 100 miles...but as long as you take it easy, and he sets it up pretty close by eye, that's a good idea.
