Hi All,

I'm trying to decide which pads to try next any votes? From what I understand the DS2500 squeal like a ******* and aren't great when stone cold and that is the two points that the DS Performance pads are meant to solve.

I want pads that don't fade but still have decent stopping when cold as I do quite a bit of motorway driving.

So anyone tried both / any suggestions? As if the new pads don't help I'll be getting the Brembo's / Tarox or Pork brake kit...

To be fair to the standard ***** they worked okay at Spa but that's not overly horrible on brakes and I've had the stock stuff fade on the road before now...

Cheers,
Ben

My DS2500s don't squeal...they never have.
They bite from cold too.
Just give the pedal a good shove and they just work, no drama, no fuss.

I've heard the DS3000s squeal...but never tried them.

I have DS2500 on mine now, they dont squeal. Bite from cold too and are pretty awesome when warm, far better than standard and will be investing again when the time is due

I concur.... no squeal, work from cold, great stopping ability.... job done

you heard wrong.
DS2500 nor DS3000 dont squeal and both work from cold better than OE, but work better again when warm.

How long do these last for with normal use guys

How long do these last for with normal use guys

Lasted longer than OE pads for me, and not harder on the discs either.

Really no drawbacks, other than price.

Define "normal" !!

The fact you want a performance pad means the car may be driven a tad harder than the "norm"

I hear the life is good compared with the likes of EBC etc. When my pads wear out, it's certainly what i am getting

 what i ment by normal use was a bit of fast road use but not track days (yet). So long as there longer lasting then oem then that seems good to me .

I'd avoid red stuff pads as they tend to crumble after a while from when they were in my type r

I have just ordered a set of DS2500 and wanted to know if they have the wear indicator wires? I guess as they are track pads they wont?

If they dont can I clear the low pad warning light on my dash with VAG-COM??

They don't come with wires, I cut the plug off the old pads and twisted the wire together. You code it out with VAGCOM I am told but the old plug method is a better idea.

Cool thanks, I was replying when you answered my question...:respekt:

Would the liquidS3 be able to clear the code also?

Pad wear indicator is not a fault. You don't need software to clear it, the pad wear indicator is like a switch.

VAGCOM could potentially code out the wear indicator on the DIS but as this is a safety feature, its not recommended to do it this way as this method can be forgotten about. Safest and simplest way is to use the plug off an old pad and twist the wires together. Twisting the wires together completes the circuit and the warning light won't come on.

Simples....

<tuffty/>

But bypassing the switch is just a mechanical way of 'coding out' the wear indicator so just as much a safety issue?

Granted, however.... you could easily forget you have coded it out which a new owner wouldn't realise... the pad wear plug fix is easier to sort out (as a new owner may not replace with DS2500's) and once plugged in will work again without intervention.

Its a safer way of creating a safety issue...

Thanks chaps, that's that question answered then :)

DS2500 will be ordered in the morning!

On another note, I'll post up sometime about the stuff that's broken on my car over the last few months, seems to make my mates laugh if nothing else. :)

PS. Has anyone made the change to DOT 5.1, I'm thinking of doing it at the same time as the pads / stainless hoses?

Is that why you still haven't done the brakes, you've been talking about them for months, you have PM

It helps...probably more on the track than on the road...but a fluid change along with SS hoses will help.
Do it while you change the pads, if you can.

Rip the silly dirt shields off the front too...they only keep heat in and help the brakes overheat.

DOT 5.1 is ok but IIRC it makes the pedal a little spongier but has a higher boiling point.

I used Motul RBF600 which is a DOT4 fluid but has similar capabilities to DOT5.1

Incidentally, Badger Bill sells both the pads and the fluid :)

I've heard the Motul RBF600 needs changing more reg like every 6 months, hopefully thats not true. Has it made a change to the brake feel though the pedals

RBF 600 is synthetic iirc, not sure about the 6 months thing... can't imagine it is unless you regularly boil your brakes...

The pedal feel is no different to OEM, its when you do brake hard then have to brake hard again afterwards where its a world apart from OEM... I don't drive that hard but on the odd occasion I do, I can honestly say the brakes are just there everytime you use them... If you are hard on brakes then maybe things will be different but I have had nothing but consist brake performance from the DS2500/RBF600 setup... I am looking to get braided hoses next though

Thanks for the info tuffty, ill get it ordered soon :salute:

:wtf: can anyone confirm if that's true? - Seems a tad OTT

I've always used DS2500 and DOT 5.1 without any issues.

@tuffty, spot on with the "plug-off" advise, never thought of it that way before (new owner issue) :applaus:

Just asked Bill.... every 2 years fast road or earlier if you abuse the brakes on the track

However, if you do manage to boil them its prob a good idea to change it anyway... Common sense really.
