up north...
after getting fed up with various dsg niggles eg
slowish gear change in drive, manic revs in sport, always being in the wrong gear slowing at a junction (auto mode of course) i was looking at getting it remapped.

regal have some dsg software editing tools and i found out that autograph cars in burnley work closely with regal, so i got autograph/regal to do me a custom dsg remap. they havnt done diesel ones before so i may have to make a few tweaks yet - this is version 1

i have a big turbo as well, so often found the turbo was off boost in drive mode so i requested:

1) quicker gear changes in drive, sport and manual
2) torque limit increased to 500nm
3) top revs change-up increased by 300rpm
4) in manual mode at full throttle the car doesnt auto change gear in 4th, 5th or 6th - it will bounce off the engine revs limiter like a proper manual
5) drive mode change points moved up by 200-300rpm so that my revs are usually slightly higher - this keeps the turbo in a better less spool-up mode
6) launch control on and changed to 2500rpm

does it work - yes
the gear changes are sharper/snappier but not jerky
it completely changes the way the car drives in auto mode now - as you slow down it drops gear earlier - so at 40mph it never drops to 6th, at 30mph it stays in 4th - and as you slow it drops the gears a bit earlier so that my bigger turbo is kept at around 1800-2000rpm ready to take off easily. it also drops a gear at a lesser throttle input where as before you put your foot down a bit, nothing happened so you gave it some more gas, then it decided to drop a gear and give you 360lb/ft just at the wrong moment.

no more arriving at a roundabout at 15-20mph in 6th and having to wait for it to drop a gear or 2 to pull away (was much worse with my big turbo which was always off boost at this point)

cost £395 - worth every penny.
need to drive around a bit and probably tweak the gear change points a little more but even at version 1 its a big improvement

contact either regal autosport (south) or autograph cars (north) if you are interested

sounds nice dunk, just wish they would finish the DSG file for the S3

Guys do you know hwere can i get a dsg reflash here in Romania, i'm really interested in doing such a mod to my car specially since i;ve installed a hybrid turbo.

since the reprogramming is custom and it only took overnight to do a diesel map, then an s3 dsg map shoudnt take any longer or be any harder -- no point waiting for gaic to do one when you can have a custom one for less money and much quicker

Thanks Dunc, now another splash of cash lol, but it had to happen sooner or later huh given the S3 Stronic could be done some months back, all good.

they can't do my S3 stronic, I spent a very long afternoon in Southampton last month, and they still haven't cracked it.

Thats awesome mate! Defo going to look further into this!

I used Autograph (previously or also known as RacetechUK) to modify my Golf Mk4 Autograph (they done an autograph conversion which consisted of 19 inch tekno rims, reiger bodykit, recaro leathers and a few other tweeks) and cant recommend them enough :D

I see you say you have upped the torque limit on the DSG to 500nm? Won't this smash the box to pieces? I'm going to be mapping my DSG TDI 140 soon, but i have read several times that tuners reduce the torque slightly on the DSG?

I was told by Jim @ STAR performance in Kircaldy that the S tronic gearbox can be done and it costs 450. I was asking him about my S3 and was told it is 466 for the engine map plus 36 for the stock file plus 450 for the DSG box to be done. Im going to leave it till next year as thats near 1000 pounds which i cant justify on a brand new car

I have the same dilemma. If the manufacturer set the limit to ~350 NM, even if it is possible to change the software in order to allow more torque do be transmitted to the gearbox, wont this thing break the box? Or even the clutch plates?
I know that the only thing that can be changed easily to the box is the mechatronic unit, the clutch plates cannot be replaced. I only saw that HGP has an uprated clutch pack but if you go to an official service, they wont change it.

What exactly does this remapping? Is the gearbox still protected?

Let's not forget that the Haldex system was supposed to only be good for 350 NM not so long ago...but many are running 400 lb-ft prefectly well through that.

Just because VAG limit the torque to 350 NM on the DSG/S-Tronic, doesn't mean it won't happily take more.

Doesn't mean it will either, though!

It would be interesting to see if you do get an actual problem with the DSG box with custom code the reaction from Audi if you try and claim warranty...

Well the evidence for me that the DSG clutch is very strong, is awesome GTI's Big Turbo MK5 GTI DSG was running 370bhp & 370ft-lb for 20,000 miles being thrashed to hell every single day and they never had a problem, obviously it depends how you drive. I'm awaiting some money from someone then I'm getting my custom map and DSG map, £800 on remaps, fun! It'll be worth it though, can't wait!

How many miles has your DSG TDI done fella?

Thanks

I was thinking the same...there were plenty of powerful DSG cars hitting the strip at GTI International...and none blew up despite the heat and abuse.

It may happen...but then again you could easily wreck a standard gearbox...so I'm thinking that I'd be comfortable to re-map a diesel/petrol DSG 'box.

I await your thoughts on living with it!
Good luck! If it's all good, it'll be one more plus point for DSG in my book.

Yeah also problem would be as per power remap, if audi have a firmware upgrade for the dsg then this will over write any changes done by external tuner on the box, so be wise to check when car goes in that they dont upload any upgrades without asking you (even though they dont listen to this anyway, lol)

But according to my chat with Chris@regal yesterday he has shown the dsg can handle alot more than audi quotes with his tuning tests & work on there cars & there are talks of US cars running unreal power through the box, it would appear they can take more than what they would advise which is always been a concern to me, now not so much, so ideas on an upgrade, but he & also my tuner have said the same, dont go silly on tuning these because the heads as we all know are subject to cracking, I personally dont want that expense right now.

It does make me wonder why so many A3's have had this issue & as per the steering racks & audi havnt done anything about it as in some form of customer goodwill for those affected, of course cracked head & if its been tuned aswell could void any claim but others with stock surely should have this sorted for free.

Thanks

Just turnt 21k, completley standard at mo, bar a turboback exhaust, hopefully by the end of July I'll be all mapped up and ready to rock n roll :rockwoot:

Exactly, well said :applaus:

I'll do a good review, when it gets done, I always do :)

How much do regal motorsport charge to map a 2.0L TDI 140 DSG?

How would i go about getting stock up dates for the DSG box?

Thanks

:racer: my car is standard at the moment also.

Ring Regal & ask mate, we're talking about the DSG remap, purely the gearbox not the engine power remap, power map range from £300 upto £500, dependening who you use, dsg gearbox remap is £400 & stock dsg updates would only be applied by audi if they find a fault on the gearbox.

I'll have a look on Google and get in touch mate thanks.

I know we are on about the box, i was curious to know how much it would be to map the car also, i would imagine an A3 with a mapped DSG box and mapped engine would be a decent weapon.

I'm sorry mr 5k posts :3sadwalk:

Whats my post count got to do with it sheep shagger, lol, anyway be factual, 5.5k posts, god I'm nothing against JoJo with his 10k posts, he sleeps next to the AS servers, lol

P-Torque are charging £395 for my custom map, and then it'll be £395 for the DSG map. A decent weapon it will be, I can't wait!

Do regal make their own maps or are they dealers of a particular tuning company?

Thanks :icon_thumright:

Not sure on that one

Nothing really, I just wanted to get your back up, and it worked :moa:

Would that be Will @ Performance Torque @ Bromsgrove?

He did a GT TDI 130 which i had 2 years ago when he was working out of his garage back at his flash pad.

Decent fella and seems to know his stuff, best bit was it only cost me £225!

Yep thats will. He's £45 cheaper than custom code, which is my other preffered choice. He's got a quite a setup now, he's based in Wolverhampton now, and clearing up alot of revo maps so I hear.

Can't wait.

What do you mean by clearing them up?

Revo are one of my preferred choices, shouldn't i bother?

Clearing them up, by removing it and adding a p-torque map, I've been out in a few revo cars and aren't impressed by the way they are mapped. Thats my personal opinion, whole forum will get on back now I expect lol

What way would you say they are different?:arco:

Well the power is not consistent across the rev range (from the cars I have driven/experienced). It dies out, hence why they are known as 0-60 maps. Mike said early today, upto 60 it'll feel like a fighter jet afterwards your going backwards.

Thats the funniest thing I ever heard :lmfao:

He's had a revo on his mk4 golf and now has custom code phase 2 on his 140.

regal have 2 map choices for the dsg - giac dont currently have a dsg diesel remap on their server but would do one at a price but there may not be the custom choice as to changes - i dont know whether you would get a one-size-fits-all remap

regal have their own dsg remap software - i went for that because they are happy to tweak the map and incorporate any features/changes i wanted including upping the drive most shift points to map the higher on-boost point of my big turbo, and it was cheaper than a giac map was going to be - as a backup we took a giac read of my standard dsg just in case!

the quicker changes and +300rpm upping of the D change points have made a massive difference to my car and of course the quicker manual mode changes are better too.

unfotunately my turbodynamics turbo has just expired 2 weeks out of warranty - i think the shaft has gone - oh ******, but nothing to do with the dsg remap of course so im waiting for a warranty report from turbodynamics.

as to the dsg torque limit, loads of tuners including vw themselves have been running big turbo/high torque cars without any problems upto about 380-400lb/ft - the 500nm limit is about 368lb/ft so well within that.

upgraded clutch packs are available for over 700nm but they are expensive...

You guys thinking of up grading your DSG software might want to read THIS as it`s more then likely where Regal and everyone else is getting their DSG maps from or a cracked copy software map of it from another "mapping company".
