Rain/water repellent for glass

Hey guys and girls.

Some brain picking to be done! I'm after some glass rain/water repellent. I should firstly add that this is to be used on a boat so the environment that it'll be in will be quite harsh with the salt water and hot weather conditions.

I've had a guy come on last year and he treated them with a product called 'Rain Racer'. This stuff worked great and lasted a good 4-5 months with just the one application. It made my life a hell of a lot easier when it came to cleaning the windows! After it started to fade away, I got myself a box of Rain X. This worked great initially, but only lasted about 2-3 weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone out there has something that they would recommend or if I should try and track down this Rain Racer stuff.

tbh when I used rain x on my old car, it stayed on the windscreen for a long time (months) and although it was good, I don't want to use it on the A3, as previously it made the wipers (and future sets) very smeary and juddery.
 
I've been using Rain X for couple of months stuff, I find the stuff great!

For example I could drive on the motorway in heavy rain without needing to use the wipers.

I've used it on all my windows and wing mirrors so I got a clear view at most times.

Although, the only problem that I seem to have with it is that it doesn't last very long. Usually starts wearing off at about 3 to 4 weeks and then I retreat it again.

I once thought rain x was good as well. But after seeing what this rain racer does, it lasts much, much longer. I'm suprised that scott1andrews managed to make rain x last for months. Did you apply it, and leave the car in the garage for months? lol

I think I'll give this Rob a call. See what he says.

How does Rain Racer compare to say Carlack?

Ive been using Carlack sealing kit for a year now and its pretty good stuff, but never seen an advert like the Rain Racer which is very impressive.

What are your thoughts? Its about same price and carlack is running low as been using it on all my family and friends cars LOL!
 
Never heard of Carlack, let alone used it. TBH I thought that Rain X was the one to use. You hear everyone talk about Rain X. Well I do anyway lol. All I can say is Rain Racer really did impress me as to how long it lasted. The coating on the back where it is shielded, still does it job well! Nearly a year on!
 
Amazing, I will wait for a reply on the carlack system as I know someone might use this.

But even after a year? I might just chance it and order it anyways seeing its pay day!!
 
All true above; Rain-X works well but doesn't last more than a month, hence why we've stopped selling it - it just isn't good enough. We're currently working with Werkstat to produce a glass sealing kit based very closely on the CarLack formula, but with several key improvements. We're at the final testing stage, and the kit should be released in 2-3 months time. It, like the CarLack formula it's based on, will offer 3-6 months durability per application, so a definite step up to a benchmark position. Rainracer I've not heard off, but if it lasts a year then blimey, that's quite frankly amazing for a glass sealant! :yes:

I ordered a bottle for £16. However its been 2 days and its not arrived :p

I am hoping to use RR this weekend, but doesnt seem likely :(

Interested in what PB come up with and of course they should so small sample packs :D

Which I am happy to pay of course :p

I was on my way home and thought I would order some on my blackberry.

I placed and order and paid, they accepted the money only to find out that the number you call is actually dead.

I noticed it was a bit funny as I ordered this on the 25th June.

Has anyone ordered it from this site? Please help!
 
I haven't bought anything from the site but I just had a look at it and they say to allow about 15 days for delivery. Give it a few more days and it should arrive.

Hi there,

Ive waited and still nothing, Ive called the website number and number is dead. Replied to the emails, they bounce. Replied to the pay pal address another bounce.

Ive gone to my bank and filed a claim now.
 
Hmmmm.... no idea mate. Going by their delivery times and when you ordered it, delivery should be today/tomo. I've tried their number too and it don't exist as you say. Maybe they've gone under too.

Try getting in contact with the link that blazin gave. See what they say.

Hmmm, I was thinking of putting an order through as well.

Also, what happens if you accidently spill some on the paintwork?
 
Yeah me too, I was going to wait and see what you thought of it. I hope you get it sorted, let us know if it does arrive eventually.
 
Still nothing so as of yesterday I filed the claim and waiting to fill out the paperwork.

I mean if it arrives I will be shocked. If you have tried the number and emailed them on both email address listed on the site and also the paypel address they bill me on and they all bounce it will give you warning sirens right?

Anyways I hope I get my money back :(
 
Ring the guys from the link that Blazin gave coz they supply the stuff too. If they have them in stock then Rain Racer must still be in business. If they are, then they could maybe give you their details so you can speak to them directly?
 
If you paid through paypal you can get your money back that way.

Are all of their products the same stuff in the bottle. Looking on their site, they sell this stuff to seal showers and bathrooms etc, so your local bath retailer may have some?
 
Well I think their estimations of 'applications lasting approx 3-5 years' and 'keep limescale at bay for 18 months' are a bit optimistic and it would obviously vary with the conditions the glass is in.

Having said that, the patio bit at the back of the boat where it is sheltered is working just as well now as it did when it was done last year in the summer. The windscreens at the front lasted about 7 months on the one coat. Considering the elements and environment they are in, I'd say thats fairly impressive. The windows on the side still work a little bit now. Starting to go off.
 
I guess that is more geared towards the shower and bathroom user, and they do say "up to" in the typical marketing ploy. All products make outrageous claims at some point, so just keep that salt bottle handy ....... Given that you had such a good experience with it, I figured why not ...... worst case I just use the stuff on the shower, and my the missus life that much easier. :shutup2:

Would still like to see Polished Bliss do a review though.

Not sure about those durability claims Rich. I was very impressed with the performance of the CarLack stuff, I didn't use my wipers for two months, but by the third month it was gone. No smears or juddery wipers at least.
 
Not yet, found a bottle on eBay, so figured I would put a bid in [please don't start a bid war] otherwise I shall buy some from the link I posted. Will gladly update once I have used it, but as I have never used rainX or any other similar product, I don't think I will be able to offer a comparison.

There is a smaller bottle that perhaps *ahem* Polished Bliss would want to test out, may save them a lot of development time with their upcomming product, or at least give them another formula to base theirs on :sly:

Im using Pro vision - rain clear from my local motor factors

works really well lasts ages easy to apply - cost about £8 all in all very good, works well down the motorways no need for wipers at 90mph
 
Too late! We're already financially committed to the development/release of the Werkstat Glass Sealing system, based on the lengthy testing period we have spent working with them on it - the products are now about to enter the production phase, so only a couple of months to release now. :yes:

Valuable feedback, so thank you - I'm struggling to pin this down; we've seen three months on some of the contract cars we see on a quarterly basis, and I have stretched it on the C2 to four months with it still visibly working. That said, you are the second person to say it's worn off in two months or less; I think we need more feedback in order to settle on an average that accounts for all facors involved. And bear in mind that nothing will last on your car due to the speed you travel around at. :laugh:
 
In hind sight Rich, you guys put the Carlack stuff on in February and I managed two months or so in winter/spring conditions. I was using the wipers again by May, although it was still obvious that there was some Carlack still there. It was definitely much better than RainX.

I ordered some rain racer from the impact glazing glazing link above and it arrived about 5 days later. Really impressed,when on the motorway last night doing about 75mph in the rain the water does literally run off the screen-hense the name I guess! No need to use the wipers. The only gripe I have is in a way its a little too good.I left my car outside my girlfriends work for about 20 minutes and some ****** up tw*t must of thrown the left overs of his burger on my windscreen.I used my squirters to try and budge it but the as soon as the water hits the screen it just runs off.******.

I'd recommend it to anyone though,it certainly works!
 
Hi,

I managed to get a refund in the end and apparently the product was lost in transit.

I didnt get any reply from them, Natwest just did the disputing and in the end I ordered the carlack twins.

Im interested in seeing what PB create in the near future and would love to test it :p :hi:
 
lve been using rainracer since July. First application lasted well until mid October. Used it on my house windows as well as the window cleaner cant get to, or wont do, a certain window. Didnt work to well, well it did but must be affected by the sun as the windows are manken now.
 
Just another month or two to go; Werkstat are perfectionists and have been making last minute tweaks to the formulas and bottles. Bear with us. :icon_thumright:
