Which wax for refurbed wheels?

Am having my alloys refurbed next week. What should I use to protect the new finish? A special wheel wax? (which one) or my normal car wax?

Also how often should I treat the wheels, every couple of months like the body work?

I have always used Poorboys wheel sealant. The pro's who use it day in day out may recommend something different, but that has always worked for me.

Plus it smells lush :thumbsup:

How often do you apply it and with what? Cloth or pad?

If you google it you'll find lots of places to buy it from.

I apply mine with a small foam applicator pad and thn buff it off with a cloth.

I have just ordered some poorboys from polishedbliss.com it's only around £12 and after searching around, it seems to be a highly rated product.

I'm with the others on this one POORBOYS is the biz!!

I put 5 coats on my new rims the night before I had them fitted, that was a couple of thousand miles ago and you can just hose the dirt off, no need for nasty wheel cleaner.

The Wheel Specialists on the Tyburn Road,...just down the road from Villa Park.

The colours a new one they've just started doing called 'steel'. I like it because charcoal was too dark for my car, this is nice and looks darker or lighter depending on how sunny it is.....result.

Yeah mate, know them well! We used to know a woman who worked there and were getting wheels done for 160 a set in any finish!!! Unfortunately she no longer works there

One other thing, do you do the inside of the wheel? Would mean me having to take each wheel off individually. And difficult to clean in there each weekend anyway.

It depends on the design of your wheels (and how much time you have!)

I would take them off for a really good clean, and a few applications the first time. I am lucky with my RS6 wheels I can clean them inside on the car still. And I have given them a couple of quick inbetween coats of seal too, which is ok, but you would get much better coverage by taking the wheel off.

If you say it's difficult to clean in there anyway, (tried a Meg's wheel brush?) then you will have no choice but to take them off and do it. How often depends on you really? I would say I did mine again after about 3 months, but that is with weekly cleans inside, if you cant do that then it may be sooner ...?

I've got the boleros (standard on 1.8tqs), bit of a sod to get to the inner rim even with a brush. Will take them off and give them a few coats first time and that will hopefully last until next time i get a chance to take them off for a thorough clean.

Is it ok to use on black powdercoated wheels,i was told hot water and sponge regularly is all they need but i wouldnt mind putting some kind protector on them!!!!!

Thanks for all the advice, will get some ordered along with a megs wheel brush. Pics will follow in a week or two. Can't wait to get rid of the peeling lacquer that lets the car down!
