Im going over to gti international on Saturday and im gonna have a go on the strip.

my car isnt hugely fast being a 2.0tdi and It has been remapped to 189

im going to try and get it as fast as i can with little things

im going to strip alot of things from inside the car (wont do much but wil feel more racy

Just wondering what else can i do to the car to make it that little bit faster?

any little easyily done things would help me no end

i really would quite like to get a decent time on the sprint strip

cheers

remove your spare wheel too. try to keep intake as cold as possible. some people take cooler boxes and ice packs/wet towels and place it over intake to keep it cool.

play around with tire pressure, if you have a front wheel drive, inflate the rears to about 40psi and fronts to about 20/25psi. do the pressures when tire is cold.

do a little burnout/wheel spin to remove dirt on wheel and put a bit of heat into them (turn off ESP). when waiting for lights, if you have a manual, hold it still with hand brake and get revs to about 3000 with clutch on biting point, as soon as you go, drop h/brake and floor it.

I'm looking forward to inters..... Though a little worried about my slow change problem..... The car will only going into the next gear at the correct revs...... Though if i change just before the redline i'm better off, the changes can be much quicker.....

As long as im around 13s ill be happy!

Can't make Inters this year :( as I will be on Ventura in the North Sea / Norway this weekend :sm4:.

But have fun everyone and good luck on the drag strip.

I take it that you will both be running decent fuel (V-Power) ?

Also don't forget to make sure your aircon and all electrical accessories are also off and all Windows up.

Might go the full way and get some BP Ultimate 102 octane! Woooooooosh!

If anyone is interested this is the closest places to inters to get 102 octane.

Chicheley Park Connect
Tickford Street, Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire, MK16 9BD

Very tempted now....

how much is that stuff now toby. was over 2 quid when l thought about it, my nearest is forth road bridge. l went in but couldnt find the pump. does it make a difference.

Yuo won't notice a difference for about a tanks worth of fuel has been used as the ECU needs time to adapt to the fuel quality and also the way you drive.

The other way to do it is to fill up with the fuel and delete the engine ECU fault codes which also deletes the old adaptions, give it death so the ECU then adapts to the new fuel straight away.

I'll be there on the Saturday doing show and shine in the Polo, might do the sprint as well but always suffer with lack of grip at inters in a 180bhp FWD Polo!

As gixxer says, tyre pressures are HUGELY important.

What's the highest cetane fuel on the market? BP or Shell?

BP is 97 and V power is 98.

BP Ultimate 102 is..... erm, 102!

the shell station where i fill up with v power, says that its 98 ron, but on the site its 99 ron

Depends how far you want to go

weight wise - poassenger seat, rear seat, mats, spare wheel and tools, parcel shelf, plastic engine cover :S

Also, may be worthputting your 17" sport wheels back on as the 18" are heavier afaik.

As below tyres pressures

And also, dont redline. Take it to around 4k or find out where thr peak tourqe is (mine around 4k but forgoten as I've not driven hr in around 3 months :S)

Tryn ot to wheelspin too much either :D

Try some diesel v powe and run some injector cleaner through it (i use redex and made a noticeable diff) and also, if it is due an oil change soon, may be worth doing it a bit earlier :D

HTH

yeah i've pretty much striped the guts out of it

and it feels fantastic, maybe abit rattely but faster than its ever felt

the only problem with putting my old 17" sport is that they are currently being used to hold up my mk1 golf in the garage as shown below

originally my plan was to have that little monster on the strip but funds ran short :(
