time for new brakes and pads

hey, i need to get new discs and pads. i dont want to spend a lot of money, ive been looking at Euro Car Parts and they have ATE or Eicher discs for cheap. Should i go for OE or upgrade to something better (but remember not too expensive!). what are some good pads to go on those discs? or recommend a better setup! thanks.

ds2500 pads and standard fit discs best combo for your budget, drilled/groved or any other type of disc will make little difference to stopping power, but the pads will so id go std discs and ds2500 pads should be cheaper then the blackdiamond stuff and work better

are ds2500 track pads? on europerformance.co.uk it says Track. the street ones they have are "Ferodo DS Performance Pads (Rear) 'Street'" are they similar?

ds2500 pads are effectivly track pads but there also very good road pads there not noisey at all and work increadibly well, i have them with my brembos and its amazing
the ds pads wont be quite as good be ok for the rear but up front you want ds2500's, i got mine from badger5 about as cheap as anyone

EBC make OE brakes too and they are very cheap. Same steel and quality as EBC's own Turbo Groove discs my supplier told me. Even made at the same factory. Off course they're without the Zink coating which will give nothing tbh and they're also without the grooves which will add nothing but noise.

I have those budget EBC with EBC Red Stuff (100% ceramic, no steel - no dust)...imo a very adequate combination on the S3. They will stop your car fast. DS Ferrodo is alledgedly the best out there. I haven't tried them myself but a mate has them on his RS2. Made quite a difference to his car's braking capacity. They're expensive though and have a steel/ceramic mix, therefore the bite hard. And they will wear your disc faster.

i think the Ferrodo's are gonna be too expensive. also i should have mentioned my car is only a 1.6 - perhaps not worth it. EBC don't seem to do Red Stuff for 1.6, but they do do Green Stuff. might end up going with these unless anyone can recommend another pad?

Just get OE quality for a 1.6. They are nice quiet brakes and will last, id use ATE, never had a problem with them as we fit them all the time on bmw/vag cars.

Go for OE with better pads. Even though you only have a 1.6 you'll need as good brakes as you can afford. Stopping 3-4 meters shorter maybe means that you can avoid hitting something or someone - VITAL even with moderate power

I have EBC Greenstuff pads. There was some concern from S£ owners over them but on my A3 they're brilliant...cant fault them and they're a huge improvement over the standard ones.

My discs were from GSF, they're just cross drilled ones by a company called Zimmerman. Again...cant fault them....plus they were under £50 each.

HP I emailed a seller on ebay about mintex xtreme pads for my car, if they would fit. He replied back asking do I have ATE calipers. What are ATE and how would I know if a S3 has them

ATE are the standard S3 brakes (calipers, pads and discs - as far as I'm aware), it's just the name of the manufacturer.

I have Reds on my 8pot RS6 Calipers on my S6 and they dust the same as any pad.
they will tear up disks faster when pushed, more so the yellows, and are not in the same league of performance and longevety as DS2500/DS3000 series pads.

DS2500's for S3's are readily available and stocked by me for Leon Cupra's etc. same fitment.
{no wear sensors is their only downside}

I can only guess you dont work your pads hard if greens suffice.
when used in anger they will fade and wear out like a mofo.

they're not for heavier cars but light 106's and the like

No problem Badger...Just meant to say that they dust less than OE pads. At least that's my experience. Red stuff will tear up the discs faster than OE pads, sure, but not nearly as fast as DS2500 etc...

Anyways, never doubted that Ferrodo have good pads...!

Badger, how much for the 2500? and can I chuck them on with my standard disks?

Wear sensor just came up, so I guess I need to replace some pads, but it looks like I may not get this reminder if I upgrade to these pads. If I want to keep this feature, and still have good stopping power [225 S3] what would you recommend?

Also, can you deliver by Monday if I order tomorrow?
