Most mileage out of a tank?

I've just managed to get 553 miles out of my A3 2.0TDI before refuelling....

Its a new record for me. Has anyone managed to get more?

The needle wasn't quite off the scale - it was at the top of the empty mark on the guage, so it suggested there was a bit more left - but I managed to put 55 litres in and that's meant to be the full tank capacity....

DIS had just counted down to zero too.....
 
Went from Leeds to York down to Uxbridge and then down to Epsom and then to Brighton, and then Brighton to Epsom to York and then Leeds on 65 quid of diesel at average of 103.9p per litre.

was a 688 mile trip divided over 3 days including stop start traffic, random trips for food.

Averaged 52.1mpg on the DIS, but actual MPG was about 50.04, which is pretty good!

I reckon if it was a single trip with no traffic then I reckon I could've got more.

Also the fuel gauge came on just a few miles out of Leeds lol. I thought I could've made it! But guess not!
 
My best was 560 before refueling my remapped 2.0TDI - that was driving like a granny with no air con last summer when the fuel was 135.9p or so

Doing it again now for the banter and pennies and I have done around 420miles with quarter of a tank left. DIS says 165miles left so will see how long that can last!

I was used to filling up every 5 days but now pushing it out to 10 and its great!!

625miles with 10miles showing as range in the DIS.
Sunderland> Hertfordshire> a day running around> Hertfordshire>Standstead>Sunderland.
Averaged 64.2mpg in option 2 DIS.

1.9TDI sportback, no map, with a full boot and four passengers. Needless to say I was very pleased! :hi:
 
I've done 550 in my 170 before, climate on auto, radio blasting out etc. just sensible driving. I reckon I could of stretched it to close to 600 if I hadn't got bored and put my foot down!

Generally it does 500+ between fill ups with a mixture of driving.
 
we should do how little miles to a tank you can get!

I managed to get 435 miles to the tank in my 2.0 TFSI on my last tank, that was mixed driving, long and short journeys. I have been behaving though and driving sensibly. Average MPG was about 39mpg, had it up at 46.7 on one trip!

Think I could get a more but would be driving like a granny.
 
Out of a full tank i get 400 miles! Not too bad best i've got with normal driving not putting my foot down and keeping under 80mph 450! And that did my heading! Not bad for my petrol.

so far on 95ron i have had 280 miles out of a tank. and ave 24.0 mpg

Can get it up to 35 ish if i drive like an old woman.

But that's so not why i bought the car..

Aspen, I'm sure that you should be feeding that badboy Super, at least 98Ron. I know that it can take 95, but IIRC it is not recommended you run on that for prolonged periods :think:.

But with VPower @ 110.7 p/l it isn't a great prospect. BTW, when flip did the prices to back up? It's not been that long since I tanked up, but I haven't heard much of these price rises on the news (not like last time anyway.)

Man I am sickened by that!! Making me more tempted to buy a 2.0TFSI!!!
 
Ive managed 475 miles out of a tank, but 400 of those was m5 + m6 & back again! On the motorway average about 37-45 mpg, Around town its more like 30 with my heavy foot!

Does the high octane stuff really make that much more of a difference?
Everyone ive asked seems to think its not worth the extra pennies!
Should I be running mine on it?

I'm certainly no petrol expert and I am sure that there is a lot of rhetoric in their sales spiel, but for higher octane fuels inc. V-Power, I think one of the main advantages are its increased resistance to early det (-ination). It also has cleaning additives which reduces the amount of gunk build up in the engine, making more efficient combustion. Ironically, BP have the best site on this subject here. They tend to mention modern and performance engines in their blurbs, so make of that what you will - all reletive I suppose.

Whether or not you should be running it is largely up to you, but for me I always use the higher octane products - even Tezzers 99, which some people don't rate (I would be interested to know why too :readit:).

Independant advice here (particularly the last para.)

Irrespective of what fuel I put in t doesn't last very long. :racer:
 
I had never noticed a difference before but I recently filled up with Tesco 95 (they had no super) and I noticed a MASSIVE difference.

On the motorway there was just no pull. I felt like I was always in too high a gear. When giving it the beans I couldn't tell though.

I have started using Shell V-Power again (they seemed to ignore my boycott) and I have noticed a difference in economy too.

LOL @ that. Interesting to hear about the 95 though. I was out for the avo and looked at the manual where it says 98/95 should be used; I would imagine in that priority too. It is 91 ron that they say you should only use in emergency, so scratch what I said earlier.

Staz did you mean that you have increase in economy with V-Power? I'm sure that the BP Ultimate adverts have some test figures that say you get circa 30+ extra miles using that fuel.
 
best so far 580 in a 140 tdi dis said 30 left :applaus:best in a cupra r 250 although it did have revo and powerflow exhaust

It's hard to be sure TBH. I said before that I got better economy since the Redex and Evoms. Now I have moved down south and my journeys are different so I can't 100% say it's because of the fuel, but my range after I fill up has gone from about 320 to 380 since using V-Power.

It's worth the 2p extra over supermarket 97Ron for sure.

****** hell! I had to double take then, fair play :icon_thumright:. I need a long journey, some Pink Floyd and a shortend right leg to try that out.
 
Mine feels much happier on vpower - had some crap supermarket stuff in, had to pick up fuel half way along a journey, and wow. Was like the car had suddenly woken up as I pulled away from the shell garage. Running Sainsbury's 97 RON atm (it's really cheap), but it's pretty poor compared to vpower.
 
I'm sure it takes quite a few miles before the new fuel gets through!
 
Shouldn't take very long - the fuel lines don't hold that much fuel...
 
Went on a road-trip this weekend. Just filled tank and DIS showed 20km (12 miles) left with 488km (303 miles) done. Average speed was 140km/h (87m/h) and top speed on trip 225km/h (140m/h). :s3addict:
 
i get about 300 miles with mine, with my job i have to do short, quick journeys without warming engine up and that really drops the miles down!
 
Most i have ever got is 280 miles out of a tank.

I use to get over 300 miles all the time, then the mods came along!
 
When I first got my car, I was getting max 450 miles when the fill up light used to come on.

Now with my fast road map and mixed driving, I get 470 miles when the fill up light comes on!

Max I've got is 510miles. Quattro kills me! :)
 
Does anyone know what difference the sulphur content in Diesel will have on economy? In SA we mostly get 500ppm (even V-power & BP ult) but you can find 50ppm.
I haven't tried comparing a tank of either, but was curious if someone actually knows...
 
:hi:i average 400miles to tank round town and local trips somewhere around 38mpg, and i return just over 510miles to the tank on the motorway, at around 43mpg..
thats in my remapped (cnlhttp://www.cnlremappingltd.co.uk/) sportback 170tdi quattro, cant complain at that. when i first picked up the car i was down in the low 30's could have just been new car syndrom.:eiertritt:
 
2.0 TDi, currently done 480ish with a 1/4 left, DIS says 150 mile range :icon_thumright:
 
2.0 FSI SPORT done 360 miles so far showing 145 miles left on the DIS i was getting 45.3 on the motorway which i thought was very impressive for a petrol :racer:
