I just went to pick up the car.....

It looks like they didn't check the spec of the car and just ordered the standard S-Line kit.... I thought that it did look very nice at very first glance (despite the 16" wheels ;) ).....

However on closer inspection:
Before:

After:

(for anybody who's not spotted it, the factory fitted headlight washers just disappeared, despite me mentioning that they were included in our initial chats, they are listed in the VAG catalogue AND they had the reg details before ordering the parts)

Also, and I'm not sure whether I'm more annoyed at this... as it should have been very obvious as they had the car spec and reg details, or less as it does open up some other options....

No diesel rear valance:

The wrong valance is "okay" from a distance but pretty shoddy from close up... if it had been only that, I would have considered some Milltek / other tailpipes, but since it HAS to go back to get the bumper redone, I think I'm going for the diesel valance too....

edit: in their defence, they were VERY apologetic about it and have said they would definitely get the front bumper (washers) sorted and the rear done too (I left them with "I think it needs to be diesel for a diesel")... if they were to offer a SERIOUS discount some decent back-boxes with appropriate tailpipes, I might consider it, but reluctant to spend any money with them to fix their mistakes, however innocent the mistakes are.

You got to Get the Tailpipes - Its gotta be done.Leave the rear as it is, Looks so much better than the blank look. Dont worry about the backlash of diesel smoke.
...and your still "OEM" regardless.

Go for the exhaust upgrade it will finish the back off nicely.

That looks pretty good mate

I understand your disappointment over the front bumper, but hopefully they can sort that easily enough. I agree about the rear, I would 100% keep it as it is. Those downswept pipes can be cut off and a nice pair of Powerflow tips fitted, would look much better IMO.

Tell Fontain that it "would be ok" if they wanted to fit your chosen tips to save them having to fit the new rear ;)

It does begger belief about how companies can do this! Whoever fitted the new front clearly new they were taking off headlight washers and not refitting them! Did they just think you wouldn't notice?? :uhm:

Are you pleased with the rest of it? Colour match and panel fit etc ....

....

There you go, spot on, thats what Id do. Defo gotta keep the cut outs though, finishes backend off just nice!

Fontain says it all tbh, as apologetic as they may be there arrogance is one of there issues tbh, I'd say sort what I asked for & give me the tips as a goodwill gesture for the damn inconvenience.

I would do that mate tbh as its now wasted your time & ****** you of no end huh.

Get yourself a fatttttt ar8E

looks good , just need to change the wheels / they look lost !!

yeah i agree, go with the exhaust. looks much better with two fat pipes out he back. im sure fontain will sort it out one way or another, ive ask them to do a hefty list for me before i pick mine up next tuesday, hope they do it all!
not sure lostbok that you would of had time looking at another car, sounds like you had your hands full when you got there.
ive been down there today to drop paperwork in, and its been locked away in the workshop, so he said! so you may not of seen it anyway.

still need some time to see how it grows on me... if I ignore the headlight washer issue on the top half of the front bumper, it looks spot-on.... the colour match looks better than the original one (a big problem with the early silver B6's) and the panel fit currently looks better better than a lot of other factory / dealer-fit kits....

I'm REALLY pleased with how good the colour coded sides and door blades look.

Parts all all at Audi catalogue prices minus a bit (10% for some parts), so come in at about £1200, plus painting and fitting.

note that that the FULL bumper that's been done, so that's nearly £300 for the top half alone normally (yep, the bit they got wrong!!).... and the door blades are another £260!

how much would 2 x powerflow tips similar to OEM normally cost?

I saw somebody did that mod... was that an an Audi-Sport member? if so, who was it again? I think it was a B6 cabby TDI....

I'll ask them about the tail pipes - and offer that as a "get out" if they want to offer them for free, I'll consider it, but after paying nearly £2k for whole lot (incl new window switches, fitted), I'm reluctant to part with any more dosh.... whichever option is free really....

earlier today I just wanted it back to how it should have been.... if they're gonna offer the tailpipes as per the 1.8T, etc, then I'd consider it, but not interested in parting with money to fix their mistake....

still annoyed at the headlight washers....

hard to stay annoyed as I'm still v pleased with the overall look.... until I see the 1.8T rear valance with the TDI pipes.... or t'other... not to be mixed... so then I'm annoyed again :(

It was Markyzs180

If offered, feck of mate, I'd insist I get the new bumper & bits sorted out as asked for originally & also some goodwill gesture like the tips, thats seriously a ****** joke, I'd either refuse to pay or insist they did exactly as I have suggested, bunch of ****** idiots man, how could they screw that up seriously.

@ Lostbok, you seen a bit reluctant about having visible exhaust tips, is that for looks or are you concerned about soot?

I have thought about this too as am also planning this mod, a few have done it and reported no problems. The A5's and latest BM diesels also have visible tips so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. Does yours smoke anymore since the remap?

mine doesn't "smoke" at idle, but there is a definite puff of soot when you "boot it".... off the line it's definitely viisble and 2nd gear it's defintely very noticable when accellerating.... I know 'cos I had a friend nail it around a few A-road while I struggle along beind him in his A3 (1.8TS) to see what it looked like....

I know a lot of the newer cars have it (I had a 2007 A6 S-Line as a rental - in 2007) and that had 1.8TQS style tail-pipes... but the TDI180 isn't a PD engine.... old skool VP technology, so at 120k miles, I don't see it getting better!

Even markzs180's was a cabriolet, so can't be the same engine as a Quattro...

Wow, all that dosh you spent and they couldnt be bothered to concentrate on your motor!!

As said, dont be parting with anymore money and get them to do the tail pipes for the inconvenience. Surely after this though they really dont expect you to get your wallet out again, especially that massive amount you have gave them!!!!!

there are not far from me, i can't believe it about the headlamp jets
did they tell you this or did you notice it? i agree you have spent a lot of money with them either they change the bumper or they fit the tips for free.

James it sure is, I have 2 x 100mm of Milltek, just need the lower valance painting then I'm sorted.

It looks really good that mate, I wasn't too sure about 100mm pipes, but that has totally changed my mind!

Have you a full Milltek system?

Cheers James, yeah I went the whole hog, I was unsure as to go for 90mm or 100mm didn't want to look novaish, but glad I did now:yahoo:

...and how you finding the Milltek??

is it non res?

rasA4 - nope - the chap there (who had ordered the parts) had said he'd noticed the rear tail pipes seemed to be sitting a bit further back that expected, but didn't realised the TDI should have a closed back, but "hadn't realised there was an S-Line bumper with the washer jets!".... he pretty much held up his hands afterwards and said they'd only done a couple of these in the past and they'd both been on relatively low-spec 1.8T's that were getting the back-boxes done and didn't have front washers, so he'd used the parts list from those orders. And he said he hadn;t noticed that there were washers on it when it came in, but conceded that he hadn;t checked that when was ordering the parts - I told him that if he puts the VIN into Audi's system, he'll see that it had factory-fitted headlight washers...

All will be forgiven if they fix it up in the next week or two.

I've left the ball in their court RE the back boxes... I'm open to the idea of the petrol Quattro tailpipes now, but certainly not going to part with any more money to fix the problem given how much of my time this is going to eat into already.... and the fact tha tin the next week or two, I'm presumably going to be driving around for another couple of days in an Audi A2 / VW Touran (as per last week!).... I'll keep A-S.net posted on how Fontain are dealing with this... no need to start a rant on TS-net, etc just yet ;)

ya keep us informed i hope your taking back the old bumpers, either keep them if you have the space or sell them on here or ebay to offset the cost.

car is back with Fontain now, getting the kit done PROPERLY... and as somebody pointed out to me.... it was a bit more than just a "bit of a slip-up", they actually broke the law by returning the car in that state, with the Xenon headlights and no washer system!

They could have even made me liable for an accident and / or lost me my license and job because of driving with illegal Xenons!!

Check here for the legal definition.

Here's the DVLA's own summary (with my "chirps" in italics)..
"1. The headlamp unit (outer lens, reflector, bulb) shall be type approved to ECE 98 and be "e-marked" to demonstrate this. That can only be done by the headlamp supplier - Hella, Valeo etc. who must test the headlamp in an independent laboratory. Read: use a proper HID projector lens and NOT the fragmented lens ala Mk3 Golf.
2. Once fitted to the vehicle it must have headlamp cleaning and self-levelling (which can be for the headlamp or can be in the vehicle suspension - some expensive estate cars have "self-levelling suspension" and that is adequate). Also the dipped beam must stay on with the main beam. Read: self levelling, washers and no funky light patterns.
3. The headlamp must be maintained in good working order, kept clean, and aligned/adjusted correctly like any other headlamp.
Under the Road Traffic Act 1988 it is an offence to supply, fit or use vehicle parts which are not legal."

I rest my case. they had no choice tbh & at least you've found a legal reason aswell that the goverment supports.

I thought Fontain would have been much better than this. You would have thought that a garage selling and servicing almost nothing but Audi for a number of years would have taken a lot more care. I can't believe they know so little about the cars they work on. To put a bumper on with no headlight washer holes is just unbelievable. Did they employ a blind chimp to fit it. They obviously don't care about our pride and joys.
Rant over feel much better now!!

agreed: pretty disappointing given the "Audi specialist" nature of their business....

but in their defense: they didn't offer the slightest grumble or word of protest when I pointed out the exhaust cut-outs and said "TDI rear valance?" and the headlight washers.... it is costing me 3 hours extra of my time, so not a great situation, but at least no agro from them at all!

Should have given them that rear window trim and asked them to fit it for free! doh!!

They haven't really got a leg to stand on, they have to hold their hands up. They should be bending over backwards to ensure you are happy, I would be inclined to push them as far as possible and get what you can for the aggro. caused.

Just read this whole thread....What a **** up!!

If it were my car, I would get large(ish) down swept tailpipes similar to wot you get on an A6/A8 larger diesel engine.
Cant find any pics at the moment but I'm sure you know the type I mean:thumbsup:

I know the ones.... seen 'em on the 4.2 V8 on the Q7.... or even the ones on the 3.0TDI B7....

Bit late now - just getting the TDI rear valance.... I guess that's always an option when I can afford it and if they let me keep the valance with the cutouts (as per previous pic)....

what about your old front and rear bumper

I've asked about the old kit (only via e-mail though).

Rear valance is just the lower insert, not the full bumper.

RasA4,
Is the car you've got in mind the same silver?

Front bumper is not the lower S-Line skirt*, just the top half and is missing the washers, so would also be illegal on yours as you've got HID's (so as per previous, you need headlight washers).

*Alhtough I do have one of these that I'm still selling.

im not interested in your bumpers, just thought you better get the originals back from them thats all, im working on the the washers v.soon anyway mines a B5 not a B6 like yours
