Need to get a new engine for my a3 2.0 tdi quattro. The engine code is bkd will an engine with the code cba be compatable? If not, can anyone point me in the right direction please as to which other codes will be suitable. Its a 140 bhp engine.

some scrotes stole the car and blew the turbo on it must have sucked some swarf into the engine the total bill for audi to do it is around 8-9k. so i think the insurance are going to write the car of looking to buy the salvage.

my mate had an engine for sale from a bkd with 8k on it but he sold it...

sold it for £1.5k complete.

My friends a breaker so can get you one for around £1200 with around 20-30k on it.

PM me - should be able to sort you out.

Loads on ebay. Prices have dropped a lot in the last twelve months or so. I paid £550 for mine with £50 extra for deliverary. Anyone asking £1200 for an engine is basically tacking the **** as you can get a recon engine for not much more.

£1200 for a complete engine is cheap - you can get a bare engine for £600 but a complete engine with turbo, IMF, EGR, Pipe work, Manifold, PS Pump, AC Pump is a decent price imo.

EDIT: Then you pull it out and stick it in and sell teh bits off you dont need for a few hundred..

AFAIK, only BKD engines will fit a BKD )regfardless of what its out of (golf, skoda etc.) but any code can be done, but youjave to change the ECU and maybe other bits :S

Just stick with a BKD - btw - to recon is 995 but not sure if that includes the turbo or not but a recon turbo is 300

I did get the complete engine with turbo and this was back in December 2008. They do usually sale for about £700-£800 on ebay.

Where was that from if you dont mind me asking?

theres one on ebay for 500 but its done 72k and just engine and turbo, no anciliaries..:S

So a recon engine and turbo that has been stripped, cleaned, checked for internal faults then put back together again with new bolts and seals would be £1300 at most if you have to pay extra for a recon turbo but you say £1200 is cheap for an engine that has been taken out of a scrap car which has at best been started to make sure it works ?

I bought mine from a somebody who was breaking a scrap Audi A3 2.0 PD140 qauttro. I ended up buying the entire engine, gearboxwith tranferbox, front rear wishbone, diff, haldex etc off him in the end. Most of that lot is whats going on my car at the end of the month.

The breaker site 24/7 is a good site to get engines from as well.

No mate. I was just after one to strip and fit my new mods on. If your mate is giving a three month warrenty then i guess it`s not a bad price but better to just get a whole recon unit that`s just been tested and put back together with new bolts and gaskets really.

I suppose so - my mate does give 6 month warranty/20k so its not bad!

He's a top guy - he got my the engine in my type r as the cambelt broke on it :S

So what you doing with your current engine (330bhp one)? You selling it?

:D

Six month warrentry is very good. My present engine is ****** and on it`s last lags. If the new setup works the turbo and manifold will be sold but got somebody already interested in it.

Ouch - sounds bad. My turbos popped and got the part but still not got it sorted. its been parked up for near enough 3 months now and really need to get it sorted but enjoying my type r :D

Hopefully, mine will be sorted this week!

Good luck for the new build - hope its bigger, better, faster and stronger - look forward to the write up :D

Sorry for the off topicness to the person who started the thread :)

Engines knackered because i hydo-locked it about twelve months ago. Cylinders are scored and there a crack between two of the cylinders. Engine has been ragged to hell testing stuff way past normal safe limit as well, nothing to do with the turbo set up fitted really.

No idea where to get a recon but I have helpt rebuild two diesels after turbo flack got to the block honestly if you think it's dead get a turbo from any where scrap yard etc clean out all the piping wipe the intakes clean and then rag it like he'll for a few thousand miles diesels are very strong and if your lucky the flack will blow out as I said you run little risk if you think it's dead just depends if you are confidant to do it.

The two I did where a 320d and a astra g 2.0tdi both are still running but took hours if not days with mechanics at hand to help. Well the bmw is I drove it last week
