Bose & Sat Nav Plus

HI

I'm new to the Audi car's and I'm looking to purchase an A3 sportback, 2.0 desiel, S-line.
Extras:
USB Connection
Parking sensors
Folding mirrors
Light & Rain sensor pack
Aruba Blue paint

Now I've read a little at the bose and sat nav, but are they both worth getting?

I believe that the bose system is 'rubbish'. Is that true and not worth getting?
What about the DVD sat nav?

Well I cant speak for everyone, but I'm a bit of an audiophile. I've always had atermarket sound in my cars, and use to compete in SQ competitions (I won nationals in my category). I just bought an S3 and was planning on installing some of my equipment from my previous car (really quality stuff) Rockford power 700Wx4 (its certificate from the test bench rates this amp at 1000W RMS) and 10" P3 Rockford sub.
But after getting my car (spec'd with Bose and satnat) I was pretty impressed. It dobviously doesnt have that loud booming bass that you can hear down the street, but Its loud enough for me. Soud quality is good and crisp and to achieve quality like this with afermarket parts is not gona come cheap. So it about what you looking for really. If you want rolling booming bass, go with standard sound and install your own sub. otherwise if you just enjoy good quality listening go for bose.

As for the NAV, i haven't had a chance to use it much, but I enjoy the Modern look it gives the interior and the features it has are all great. Im a gadget freak so I love this :)
 
I have Bose, and love it. I would say worth the money. sat nav, is pricey, but they are now shipping with the revised RNS-E so may be worth it, earlier in the year when i ordered mine it was the older RNS-E, and i felt not worth th £1600 option price.

the revised RNS-E includes higher res. display, support for SDHC, and AMI (Audi Music Interface) better support for MP3 players.

I am waiting for the revised RNS-E to come out so i can retro fit, the older RNS-E's can be picked up on ebay for about £600

Thanks for the help. Just got back from Audi, testing the sat nav (very impressed) and the bose system, I was supprised on how clear it was. So think they are an option.

Just a little confused about the Audi Music Interface. Just wondering if its worth getting the Ipod or USB connection as I don't mind setting the Ipod onto random and let it play. Whats your review on the Music Interface?

Will hopefully order this on the weekend.

I am not sure about everyone else here but I find the ipod interface shockingly bad. So much so that I am probably going to replace it with the CD changer now I have retro-fitted RNS-E.

I used to have a Concert that would play MP3s so would always use MP3 disks rather than the ipod interface.

Just my opinion though ;)
 
I was thinking of getting the USB interface and get a cable for the Ipod in the Aux-in socket, but it looks like I'll have a 6CD changer, but I'd prefer to have the USB for ease of use.

Will have to think about the Ipod interface/Music Interface. Might stick with the USB.
 
I guess with the USB you will get more flexibility with what device you are using. The downside is there will be zero control from the stereo.

Tough call.

Hmm, a tough call indeed, but with the ipod cable I can just let it play on random and with the USB, put what tracks I want on (and a storage backup too is good)
 
I've got the ipod dock aswell, and its rubbish. You need to preset 6 playlists on the Ipod and listen to only those 6. I didnt mind this but I foun after making playslits wi hover 100 songs in it doesnt read them all. the ipod is a fail. Rather stik with aux. I use the SD card readers in the sat nav which are great!!!! so if you get the Nav, you wont really need the USB will you?
 
I think I'll just stcik with the Aux port then if it will play off just 1 play list? I might just get the USB connection ant least that way, if my mates have a UBS stick, we have something to plug into. So that would be USB (as a backup) and Ipod into the Aux, and like you said the SD cards too.
 
So its looks like the extra's I'll go for are:
Sat Nav plus
Parking sensors
Folding mirrors
Ligh & rain sensor pack
Bose speaker system
Ami - if you need to have a number od play lists I'll pass on this and just use my ipod through the AUx-in which would be better for me, if I'm correct in that????

When i bought my car everything was in it it has a massive spec , And if i get a next audi i will go the same spec.... I cant be ***** shopping about getting the system fitted and doing internal mods i dont even want to buy rnse off the net i want it complete , done , feel good when i receive and sit in my car especially for 15 bags and i did and love it ....

I listen to hiphop not the ***** now you hear but old stuff from 94 to 98 the basslines are deep and heavy and i can say the bose set up is fine good bass and sound and pretty loud..
However i do have another system that shakes brickwork and the bass was serious but now a days guys with bass smashing up the road most peeps i know say what a **** ...it reminds me of sovereign rings and thick gold chains its done now... out ...gone ....

So i wouldnt fit it back in my car anyway il stick with my bose the bass and sound is fine the satnav is great and its all hidden away and completes the audi totally, so id go for that everytime tbh ...

And this is a totally unbiassed opinion because i could swap mine next week with a after market setup but tbh i just cant be ***** and im totally happy with the bose so hope this helps

As for the ipod i have alot of music my pod is neerly full at 120 gig so i make playlists of all my best chilling ,sick , summer , gangsta , g funk , if you get my drift the playlist can be as many tracks as you want i fill each of them titles with as many as i can , one playlist might be 200 tracks....

So you get your faves all day i dosnt display the track names but im not really bothered i can jump back to hear the track again or go the next that will do me fine although i would like albums track name etc ...
 
In that case then, I don't see the point of me getting the AMI, as I'm not really bothered about the track names as I tend to put it on random. Might as well get an AUX cable and just get the USB.
 
yeah i usually just have mine on shuffle but when youve got like 30,000 tracks on the pod and you get 12 shitters in a row it can be annoying so just make loads of playlists and go for what you say ....how much is the ami on the a3 if it was under 200 id get it tbh....
 
id get for that or tell you what you get it and il buy it off you cash..
 
Your specs look good. Nice choices. Just not sure about the folding mirrors. Why do you want that? How much does it cost?
 
biggest problem i have with the IPod interface is, if i am listening to a play list on say 'CD3' and then switch the car off, come out the next morning to go to work, when it starts up, i will start on CD6 track 1. rather than carrying on from when i switched the ignition off, this was driving me mad as it didn't sometimes it would be OK.

I think i have found the problem, and that is that the Ipod is not going to sleep in the dock, so the battery is discharging and going flat, so in the morning it has to start from scratch, and that will reset the track/playlist, where if i am just away from the car a couple of hours, then the track/playlist is held, if this make sense.

I have a clasic 60G video, anyone know if I can get the thing to 'sleep' in the dock to preserve the track/list position?
 
I fitted a DVD player with usb input so I have connected a 100gb portable hard drive to this giving many hours of music & movies.

The mirros cost £115.
I've alway had folding mirrors on my car and find then useful.
I don't think I'll go for the Ipod connect and stick with the USB. Just need to decide if the AMI is worth it?

are you aware that you can't get the mirrors to fold in when you lock the car or out when you unlock the car? you have to turn a knob to control them, just something I found a little disappointing...

Yeah mine does that its really anoying sometimes i get in the car and the music has just kept playing and sometimes is cuts out when supposed to ..

I think its something to do with having the lock button on im gona work it out i wreckon put the lock on it will be fine have it off and it will keep on playing il figure it out then let you know but im sure this will solve it....

I WONDER IF YOU COULD CHANGE THAT IN VAGCOM TO FOLD WHEN ALARMED GONA START A THREAD
 
Thats a little weird now, will have to think about this and may not go with them
 
at red lights i fold em in and out repeatedly like a bull at the gates waiting for green not all the times but when im feeling a bit unwell lol..... weird
 
its just in the morning when everyone and i mean everyone is fecking thick i neerly implode driving my misses to work absolute mongs on the road ....

i know i do overtake everyone , drive on the wrong side of the road , blow lights it sends me red mist only in the morning when the lemmings are on the road ....

my girlfriend says im not very well hahahaha i cant help it i think i need anger managment the best one is 2 cars in front one drops behind enough just not to let you through there both doing 30 ones a mong the other a fat bitter cow along side you smilling evil at me boxing you in on purpose :nyah:FEEEEECKING HEEEEEELLL

if my car was 200 quid id ram her off the road........... this is what happened today although a car stopped in front of her she had to slow i was hanging out of my window laughing with a swivel and screaming hahahaha you effin c*&% lol hahahahahaha bit harsh but they know what there doin but my girlfriend says its all in my head i said she was thick and cant see :think:......
 
I've come close to shouting out the window. You can see me with my head in my hands shouting.

Been using my moms BMW e90 330cab, her Nav is really REALLY ****!
its ALWAYS getting me lost,taking longer routes and making me do U-turns.
I hate it and have since stopped using it all together. I'll rather fetch a map book.
But the Nav in my Audi is AWESOME! gets my to my dest. first time every time.
LOVE IT!!
and the bose is alsoa great extra. the More i get to drive the more im enjoying it!
...Now you get to play the most fun game of all...
The waiting game :D
 
yeah good spec fella are you getting xenons ?? there worth it looks much better and the lights are great ...
