Here and Here

Maybe of use to someone as there has been a bit of S-Line conversion talk lately!

Recently checking S-Line lower grills that came with my 2nd hand S-Line bumper and was surprised to find there are slight variations whether the grill mesh is open or closed. (Note: Any "closed" grill can be made an "open" grill by removing the clip-on cover plate - however there is no part number for the backing plate.)

For me the n/s (left) has a backing plate over the open mesh, and the o/s (right) is open.
Checked in ETKA and part numbers for Quattro + 5-speed Auto + Engine: ASN (3.0 V6) =
8E0 807 681 D 01C (o/s R)
8E0 807 682 C 01C (n/s L)

The other combinations seem to be 2WD vs 4WD, Auto vs Manual, Diesel vs Petrol, etc.

The grills I have fit my spec.

Those are the same honeycomb grills that are going into mine right now (Quattro Sport 2.5TDI Manual)... I beleive these are appropriate for the 1.8T and most of the 6cylinder cars:

Front bumper lower grille n/s 8e0807681d01c
Front bumper lower grille o/s 8e0807682d01c

And here's the rest of the available options that are still Audi OEM....

See this vagcat link and the list on the right for the appropriate car-type:

or just the pictures for the lazy amongst ya:

(click on pic to zoom :) )

Mine are the middle ones (#3 and #8 in the pic)

Please note that the honeycomb centre grills would appear to either be non-OEM or modified S4/RS4....

So you have one open and one closed?

I have #4 and #9; both closed. Any benefits from the open ones?

Well according to parts list this is what I should have.

Perhaps something to do with the auto-gearbox and engine cooling??
I also have two electric fans on the radiator - however on a "manual gearbox same 3.0L engine there is a single fan but with a flappy louvre arrangment where the 2nd fan is. 3.0L is normally aspirated petrol - i.e. non-Turbo.

If you buy these,

8E0 807 681 C 01C
8E0 807 682 C 01C

both will be open...the ones that are closed (D), have a removable plate on the backside of them, however you will see the little cutouts for the plate tabs

Really? I thought they'd both be open on the 190. My (1.9 TDI) has the open one on the left, to allow air to the intercooler. I thought the 190 had an intercooler on each side.

I checked today and mine appear to be different to all the ones pictured. They're half open like #5 and #10 but on mine it is around the fog light that is closed and the other half is open, unless I am just not understanding the diagram? Black fill = closed?

Yep, the 190 does have an intercooler on each side, so it would make sense for them to be open.

Hmmmmmm
