So, I've just returned from delivering a car to the deep south, and my wheels for the trip back were the part-exchange vehicle:

2001 A6 Avant quattro, 2.7t. Ours for the princely sum of £1800, as it has 140k miles on it. But no matter, it purred like a kitten, showed no obvious signs of burning oil nor other mechanical misbehaviour, and crucially, it went like stink.

Naturally, throughout the journey my head was abuzz with thoughts of changing my car. I like power, I like quattro, and crucially, I like big cars.

So, maybe, I out to get an A6. 2.7t (pretty much S4 engine). Probably not this one as 140k scares me (being as my '98 has 64k...) but if a slightly newer one came up.....

And then it hit me. Why? What's the point?

And then I kept finding reasons not to. Firstly, I already have a car I love and it owes me nothing. Secondly, I get about 35mpg, the computer told me the A6 was averaging 24... Thirdly, Why do I need to go that fast? I rarely do the 0-60 drag, my favourite acceleration increment of 80-110 is very illegal, so maybe I shouldn't be encouraging myself?

And finally... what happens when I get bored? Is it really worth changing my car for something considerably faster when it's just going to be a fix until something else comes along? And when I get to drive fast cars every day at work as a matter of course?

No. Sod it. I'm keeping the A4. And I'm going to make her better. Maybe a bit faster. Because I already love her.

A bit like my girlfriend; Sometimes , a blokes eyes are drawn to the sultry girl in the club with the leather skirt and the huge tits, and you think, yeah, that might be fun. And then you could be on a journey to a whole world of regret. But with my girlfriend our love lies deeper than just lust, it's about how well we know each other. I know my car very well.

Time I gave my car some love. I have dodged the thunderbolt of temptation. Now it's time to get back to business as usual.

if that was me id be the proud owner of a 2.7t a6 by now! i have to stop buying cars i dont need

Lol @ Audinary, you should write poetry! :eyebrows:

140K isn't a big deal if it's been serviced and cared for. At £1800 you could sell much of it off in pieces if the turbos died tomorrow.

I bought one last year with 109K miles on it to go camping in. Much more luxurious and spacious than my S4. Lovely lovely smooth/quiet cars.

Thats a good price for a fully loaded A6, with plenty of space one main thing i hate about my B5 is the rear legroom, my wifes corsa has more legroom in the rear. But your right if you dont need it, well put!

This 2.7t seemed a strange spec to me, with 16" rims which looked like casters.
Anyway, the car is going to a trader, who will probably put it on his forecourt for £3995...
And at any rate, I wouldn't buy it, not now i've just spent £39 on two lower door trims...

ya just checked on autotrader nothing cheaper than 3k, and it does seem strange the rims are that small, as its such a bigger car

Sorry to bring this old thread back...

The abovementioned '01 A6 Avant 2.7T Quattro, Manual (six speed) in Silver with a full recaro leather interior, 140k (full history) and in need of a damn good clean....

It went to auction in the end. Sold for £1500. Crazy cheap.

I'm glad I got to play with it before it went to its new home....

What a coincidence. Just looked at a local one, looked like a 1.8t A6 but was the 2.7t up for £3995. Was very tempted to px mine, but TBH my thoughts are exactly the same. I love the A4, why risk being unhappy just to go a bit faster!
