My car has 30 000km on, but is new to me...got it last week.
Im getting around 18 MPG and 16L/100km which is MUCH higher then I expected.
even when driving lightly it doesnt come down.
Is this normal?

What consumption are you getting? Do you drive hard?

MY07 S3 - 10k miles

Urban = 26-27 mpg
Extra Urban = 30-31 mpg
A/B road = 23-25 mpg

:racer::racer::racer: = 18 mpg

If you are only ever seeing 18 mpg, I would say you either wear lead boots :p or there might be something up. Is it mapped?

If I'm stuck behind something slow 36mpg is just about possible, and the minimum is about 22mpg....overall average including a few blasts is 28mpg.

Mapped to about 320bhp,Revo Stage 2+,Miltek etc.

On the DIS display I have varied from 17- 36mpg the latter being on the motorway doing 60, 30-31mpg is about average on a 70 - 80mph motorway run. Since new averaged about 25-26mpg. If you are only getting 18mpg I would say you should either try changing into 3rd gear, only joking, or you have a problem. If it had been mapped I don't think the drop in MPG would be so drastic, it may well improve it.

apparently the car is mapped (the previous owner says its got APR software)
but I thought that should only better the consumtion or keep it the same at the very least? Im in winter atm, temp ranges from 10-25 degrees celcius during driving hours. So i Dont think the weather has much to do with it. Oh well ;/gona keep driving and see what happens! BUt it seems wierd that Im so much higher then every1 else.

^^^Very much agreed.

KIT: Mate those figures are still way off IMO, irrespective of weather. To be honest those are the typical figures (typical maybe optimistic) over here anyway, so are not that excessive.

Have you calculated fuel consumption manually? I am not sure how accurate the DIS is, but if you do a manual check and they are still that bad maybe you should have it looked at? Just a thought.

I tend to average about 25mpg on a day-to-day basis, this includes some start/stop traffic on the way to work and a fairly straight (but short) motorway run home.

I travel a fair distance to see my girlfriend in Surrey regularly and to be honest on the motorway I find it really good. By example, i'll fill it up, do a 220 mile trip and i'll only have used half a tank. :sm4:

I still managed nearly 18mpg at Castle Combe (200 miles from the tank) when I went to Audi Driver International back in 2007. Yuo must be wringing the neck out of it, or there is something very wrong!

City driving and small journeys i get between 20 and 25mpg.

Motorways and A roads i've managed 37 - 42mpg when doing speeds between 50 and 70mph...

With the Evoms fitted and a bottle of redex gone through the system my economy has gone right up. Did an 85 mile journey today and the range still shows 310. And there were a few blasts on the M4 there!

WB Staz, thought you had gone all Jack Bauer on us. :ninja:

That is good going. My best is here to Bicester and back and got circa 330 miles tops.

Now, I know it's hardly a consideration but humour me: is there any reason why CAI would improve the economy?

I have now moved camp mate, been a busy week (drinking rather a lot).

Not sure if it was the CAI at all. Basically I put the redex in when I was in Yorks, drove to N. Wales, fitted the Evoms and when I filled the tank I put the rest of the redex in and drove back to Yorks. Normally when I get back there I have used about half a tank but my range shows less miles than the journey back, the last time though it showed more.

Today's journey was a surprise too. Spirited runs and traffic here and there but I had an average of 32mpg. Never had that on that kind of journey!

redex sales blurb...

  • Helps increase fuel economy
  • Cleans carburettors
  • Helps restore performance
  • Reduces emissions

Whats redex Leon?

My dad had some fuel consumption problems on his 130PD Passat. He tried Redex and it solved it straight away. I hadn't noticed any problems myself but as the car is now a year old I thought I'd give it a whirl. I think the better economy is more to do with that than the CAI.

I got some to use on my TDi (sorry I know this is an S3 thread :) ) Diesel injector version...

Nice one, I've noticed I get alot better economy running on V-Power diesel, the car drives better and get around 450+miles to a tank now, on a combined of town/motorway driving. Looking forward to getting my car mapped!

i use the stp version of fuel injection cleaner quite regularly since i had my problems with my injectors and my average over the last 10k has been 29 mpg, i dont kick its **** all the time tho.

yea thats the one for carb'd engines, the one for intector engines i think has a green label on the front!

No not the green one. Mine was red too I'm sure. They're all in a row in Halfords anyway so I'm sure people can find the right one lol

in that pic with red label you can see on the cardboard bit it says, cleans carbs.
i usually buy the one with green label. (by usually, i mean, always, lol)

I know THAT one says carbs but the one I had was red too. Red lid, red liquid!

o, yea, mine is a red liquid with a red lid but on the front it has a green label! i was just making sure that someone did just pick up one that was the same as that picture!

Ok fair enough. I think the red liquid put me out
