Hi All,

I am completely new to this, and am completely lost. I've recently bought a lovely S3, but the CD player does not work. The previous owner suspects it might be the loading mechanism. I wouldn't know how to repair this, so am hoping to connect an MP3 player instead.

My HU is the Symphony II, it has a 6-CD in-dash changer and a tape deck. I can't see anywhere to connect an MP3 player on the HU itself, but wondered if there might be an aux input in the back or maybe somewhere else?

There is also some equipment in the passenger side cubbyhole in the boot. I think it might be a sub or amp or something. If I can't connect an MP3 player, are there any other solutions?

Really sorry for my terrible description, I hope someone can point me in the right direction? The radio is okay but I really would like to get some quality music in the car!

Thanks,

Adrian

take it to your local car audio specialist and they will fix it for around £100, or find a audi braking with the same stereo in????

Or you can buy an ICELink adapter or imilar which fools the HU into thinking you have a separate changer installed and provides an AUX in via the CD changer inputs, or just buy a changer on ebay for around £60.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. I've been keeping an eye on eBay, and also bought a couple of mp3 adapters. I didn't have much joy with the radio one so I'm hoping the tape adapter will produce a better sound.

I've also seen the RNS-E, which is bad news as it looks amazing but is big bucks. Thanks again for the tips, I've got some thinking to do!

Cheers,

Adrian

Perfect - that looks like exactly what I'll need, even comes with the tools needed to pop the HU out. Thanks for the links, the next step will be to see if I can fit it without making a mess!

Cheers,

Adrian

Only thing I would recommend, is when you take the HU out, remove the glove box 1st. Then put the keys into the slots, and then push the HU out from the rear. Don't pull it with the keys, as this can damage the locking clips.

Oh, and the XcalLink kit only comes with 2 keys, whereas you need 4 to remove the double din Symphony HU. Another pair easily available on eBay...

Cheers,

Hi
sorry for hijack
but does this work ok with the symphony 6disc double din headunit in 51 plate a4
i ask as i dont know where these usb interfaces connect as the 6 disc HU doesnt need a seperate changer or does it still have that option
any help will be gratefully recieved as i dont want to buy something that doesnt work with my headunit
cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

Yes, it should work fine. The symphony Unit has a connector for an external CD changer, which is where the xcarlink plugs in.
