removing the driveshaft shouldnt be too hard a job mate, should just be a cse of undoing the centre nut (probably need some brakes to hold the hub stationary) and unbolting the inner end from the diff and tapping the shaft out.

Then fit a new CV joint and your golden.
 
Excellent chaps. Maybe that is within my expertise. Now find me a CV joint for less that £3.27... new!

However, I've just had a quote come in for £20 incl. shipping off flea bay with 2 year guarantee....? Eurocarparts are £86 GSF are in the same region... I think Audi are around £110.
 
can you clean the abs ring without stripping the whole lot down?
 
I have two outer cv joints from a 1.8tqs. perfect working order.
only swapped them to do brakes.

Cheers mate. Got a new CVJ from ECP... about 90 quid new. Still got my problems though as stated in another post. Thanks for the offer though.
 
can anyone confirm if the tqs cv joint will be the same as my 2.5 tdi quattro one?
 
BBA reman have got back to me and confirmed that my ABS module is fubar. Speaking to them tomorrow about a replacement, they've quoted £195 + VAT for a replacement unit. Anybody else been quoted this? A lot better than some other prices I've been seen. Anyhoo, hopefully get the new ECU by the end of the week and get it fitted at the weekend and then I've decided to sell the car. :sob:

I've been haemoraging cash for the good cause of stinky for too long. I'll continue to tidy up bit's and pieces as I'll still be using it and it'll only get worse but it'll be on the market by the end of June with 1yrs MOT and 6 months tax.:whistle2:

I think I'm going to try to stay with the VAG group and in a diesel. That way VAG com will still work :O) :rock: and I'll be part familiar with the systems. I'll also keep this account going just for the craic!!
 
We're all likely to be baised on here, but i have to ask if its really wise buying a different car, unless you plan to spend a lot of cash buying something a lot lower mileage etc.

With the car you've got now its a known quantity. Selling it and buying another unknown car could cause you just as many problems, whereas the car you've got now you've spent a shed load on and got all the bits sorted out.

Thinking about our car, even if the engine was to blow up tomorrow, i'd still rather fit another engine, than go out and buy a new car, because i know that the brakes, tyres, suspension etc is all spot on with the car we've got, and spending a few hundered quid to install a new engine is the far more sensibly option.
 
Yeah, cheers man. I know where you're coming from. I'm getting leaned on by the missus too which isn't the main reason. I really enjoy the car but the uncertainty of 'what else' may go wrong is too much of a gamble. It still needs a replacement prop shaft and the front shock will need done in about 10K.
I will be going for something newer with less mileage, take a hit on the price on hopefully save on the long run. Something like a Seat Leon Tdi, Fabia, A3 etc..... looking at around 02....
 
wOOOO!!! No errors or fault codes, (so far) in for it's re MoT on Monday then get it on the market asap. Dan Glibals - how you getting on?
