Guys

Last night my breaklights stopped working all of them, and just before they did it came up on my trip computer on the dash. At first i thought it was just one bulb but then noticed the rear window one went coming on either.

When i was stationary i pumped the brake pedal a few times quite hard and they all came back on the went back off again.

Is this the brake light switch under the brake steering wheel that needs replacing? I had this problem on one of my old cars.

Where can i get one of these from, how much do they cost?

A3 1.8t
1996

yeh it will be that! audi normaly have them in stock, and i think i paid £8 somthing for it, so not much!

Happend on my 1.6 A3 and it was the switch behind the pedal, Cost me just over a tener :)
Hope this helps.

Thanks for that guys
Do you think i need to take it out and then take it to Audi or can they source the part from my number plate?

I think they have different ones like a 4 or 3 pin

yep, there are 2 different types (2 pin church window type and 4 pin square type), don't do what i did and get the part, then take the car home, then find out that i had the wrong type!(i hate it when that happens!).i think 2 pin is pre-facelift and 4 pin is facelift.
