Hot under the bonnet

Hi is it normal if having driven the car hard for it be very hot under the bonnet, like where the strutbrace is to hot to touch? As thats what mine was like today, just curious as it seemed very hot, cheers OSKI
 
yep the turbo lives just below the strut brace so id expect it to be really hot after a burn
 
stays hot for ages too... If you open the bonnet at night after some spirited driving, you can see the exhaust manifold glowing red hot too....
 
The ventilation in the front is just 50% open i have opend mine 100%...:meeting:
 
its clost behind the S3 emblem. I used a power tool...
 
Any pic's? Did it help reduce heat and did you do it mainly to cool down intake?
 
yes you hit it spot on... You will see the closed thing when you stick your head inn inn daylight i think its a good thingeling to do... :) More power more heat...:tumble:
 
Yeah I heard a chap talked about it a couple of weeks ago, he also did it to reduce heat at the air-intake manifold. I'm fitting a FMIC soon and maybe a BMC CDA so I'm gonna tear apart the entire front anyway. WILL strip all unnessecary plastic :w00t:

Cool yeah i undertsand the turbo is just there, i could not belive the heat what was coming from the engine when i popped the bonnet, and that strutbrace was too hot to touch and took so long to cool down, i was just curious as if it was totally normal, i supose with a remap too the turbo is working harder therfore gives off more heat,

Lol!, honestly i was really suprised at the heat, almost looked like a little bit of steam was coming off my turbo too? ever so slightly
 
It will be very hot, even more at this time of the year. You will really feel the heat even on the bonnet.

And as said above, the turbo is right there underneath, so expect it to be really hot.

I travelled about 4 miles to a friend's place when we swapped the turbo. After 5 hours, the area around the turbo was still warm...lol
 
After a proper drive you can make the turbo glow red hot. So yes I'd expect it to be slighty warm.

So what you done then. drilled two large holes behind the s3 badge?
Has it made any difference?
Whats the engine temp like after a run?

I think you get a hoter enginebay with the org Audi induction patent...
Whay...? You dont get so mutch coold air in to the hard working turbo :)

My intake temp in a pull is 8"C higher then the air temp outside. It goes from 29 to 18-20"C.

What is your air intaketemp with a hot enginebay...?
 
This is my last mod. There is a Water pipe under the intake house and its heating the intakeair not good. I covered it to prevent that. The pink is spot on... :) And the temp whent down 1"C...

Same stuff as you see on the alu filtercoverplate and you need alu tape to get it perfect... **** off :)
