Fantastic.........amazing..........staggering..... ...stunning.......amazing..........

An S4 B5 is rare??

Audi's 6-speed tranny can hardly be called "amazing", it's clunky and ponderous as hell.

Only amazing issue I'd mention, would be that the gear change in a car that cost £40,000 new could be so notchy.

Still, a nice car, but the seller's "over-hyping" it's virtues.

Supercar.............no.

M3 'killer'.............no.

Legroom..............no.

best car add ive ever seen that is must of took ages and i bet a few will fall for it too . Its a nice car anyway doesnt need all that bull **** hype , gear box is **** and the legroom in rear is prob worst ive ever had

I nearly bought a scooby off this guy a year or two ago, ad was exactly the same, went on for ever and ever which worried me as I became paranoid thinking he was polishing a t$5d, once we spoke and I saw more detailed pics I pulled out as car was not as described in my personal opinion. But to be fair his feedback is perfect so maybe I was overly cautious. But what an ad, why say in a hundred words what you can say in flashing lights... but then I'm a graphic designer so that's probably hypocritical of me to say!

Does look like it's in very good nick. Reckon it could be picked up for £4000-£4500 though.

With a remap and full exh system it will be a M3 Killer  for sure but standard no way M3 E36 does 0-60 in 5.2 Sec :undwech:

Mine ran 301 bhp and 380+ torque, but it's still not an M3 'killer', especially not an E46.

It can annoy them and in some cases stay with them, but you'd need a tuned RS4 to 'kill' one.

E36 M3 is 286hp and 1460kgs (199bhp/ton)
E36 M3 Evo has 321hp and 1515kgs (211bhp/ton)
E46 M3 is 343hp and 1577kgs (220bhp/ton)

S4 standard is 265hp and 1512kgs (178bhp/ton)

A remapped S4 making say 320hp would give 211bhp/ton
An RS4 with 380hp and 1700kgs gives 224bhp/ton

No killing would be going on there unless you had a tuned RS4, as Dan says.

Guys guys guys. You don't need to buy this supercar. I'd rather mod my car to beat those pesky M3s. I've seen this ad also on ebay which i'm sure will turn my humble 180bhp power into something which will wipe the floor with anything out there. Check it out

Correct! :eyebrows:

i'm surprised it went up to £5300.
there are some later versions, cleaner, leather, with some nicer touches that have only just gone over £5k

I've had a play with an E46 M3 from the M6 Toll gates. I'm running 415bhp 440lb-ft in the S4.

Was certainly quicker, but there wasn't a huge amount in it.

Same story recently with an R8 and a C6 RS6. :whistle2:

Oh you talking about the E46 M3 you can't compare a B5 S4 with E46 M3 because they are in different class we only can compare a S4 with a E36 M3 because the RS4 B5 was flight with E46 M5 Not B5 S4 :) and you right the only way you can kill a E46 M3 is with RS4 turbo :)

Good figure :) so if you get a S4 to 340 BHP or 320 BHP you still think it won't be enough to kill the E36 M3 :w00t:

well as i posted a S4 running 320bhp would only have 211bhp/ton, which is the same as an e36 evo and slightly more than the e36 m3, certainly not enough to "kill" it, a race between the two would be very close imo.

Your not going to get much more out of the standard S4 turbos, and if you change the turbos you're probably jumping to around 400hp, which would probably be a decent amount quicker than the E36, assuming you didnt then weigh the car down with giant brake disks, huge alloy wheels etc.

That would be a very interesting comparison. I'm at work so can't do the homework, but I'm imagining that a 320bhp S4 would have a much higher torque/weight ratio than the M3,

Plus the traction of 4wd for launch etc.... When I've driven M3s I have been aware that they need hard driving to get the best out of them, the torque isn't there right through the rev range like it is in a V8 like, say, a 540 or 645, it's far more highly strung in race-car stylee. The modified S4 boys must have a big dollop of torque much lower in the rev range.

Audi and BMW use different approaches to get the same result, long may it stay that way!

Yeah, the torque per ton would be better on an S4 and the grip off the line would be better, but when you then start factoring in the huge transmission losses from the Quattro system for the 'on the move' blasts, then it starts to bring the S4 back to earth again.

torque is irrelevant as its an instantaneous force.

torque applied over time becomes power.

as the engine is not running at a fixed RPM providing a constant force, you need to bring the RPM into the party, and thats where power comes in.

the S4 might make 320lbft at 5000rpm and the beemer engine only makes 200lbft but at 8000rpm, the work done in both cases is the same. Whats important is the area under the power graph over the range of accelleration.

You're forgetting the CSL, even faster and more lightweight.... no slaying there!

Wibble indeed. I think I'll stick to less complex issues, selecting soft furnishings, discussing paint swatches etc

0-60 5.7 seconds...... how boringly slow!! :p

I think this is 0-62 5.7 Sec not 0-60 I think 0-60 is 5.3 Sec :uhm:

I get this from APR Web site:

"The S4 claims acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.6 seconds and had an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), making it both the quickest sedan/Saloon in the Audi model line and among the quickest sedans/Saloon in the world at that time. As in the previous S4, a six-speed manual transmission was standard equipment, as was the quattro all-wheel-drive. A five-speed Tiptronic transmission became available for the first time as an option."

And also I get a Auto magazine that is printed on 1998 they claim that S4 does 0-60 in 5.3 Sec.

When Top Gear Magazine strapped the timing gear onto the S4 Avant in 1998/9, the best anyone could get was about a 6.2

not to up set anyone. but a car is ownly worth what someone whats to pay. plus the bmw mybe faster standed but i'd prefer the audi just on looks an status.

letstorquebhp recons an S4 will do the 0-60 drag in 5.58 secs based on its power/weight ratio and its 4wdness

The fastest stock "honda type-r" listed on there is a DC5 Integra which it recons will do it in 5.9, and no 330 is below 6

I've certainly never driven a 330i which felt capable of a sub 6, especially as the majority are automatic....
