Hello all!

just off the boat from my mammoth 1300mile trip to AmD Essex!
got her re-mapped, full milltek stainless downpipes,100cell high flow cat an back, V3 KW coilovers, uprated D/V's full service and remap. threw on some 18" rs4 reps before i left (ended up with et35's an needed 3mm spacers)

Absaloutly different car!! certainly was more enjoyable coming north than going south! very very quick!! caught out a good few misbelivers!!

she made 315.3bhp 375.9lb/ft just a lovely map and the sound....... needless to say tunnels and flyovers were a total joy!

Thanks to all the boys at AmD (also cheers for the free jacket) and thanks to all on here for your advice an patience! plenty more mods to come but i think she's certainly fast enough!!

i'll get her polished up and post some pictures asap

Aidan

Holy moly! AmD then. Mmm. Essex you say. Hmm.

I might have a look down the side of the sofa tonight for funds....

how much did all that set you back then mate? im hearing good things bout AMD!!! AMD or MRC? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm decisions.

Full milltek stainless downpipes, 100cell high flow cat an back and remap and only 315 BHP should it be more like 340 BHP ? or I am wrong :(

you rite there NEZ, a simple remap on mine(ours) should kick out 310hp without downpipes and a sports cat :uhm:

i,ve got the dynoplot so i'll try an scan it an post it, i'm sure 340bhp could be made but there's rough an smooth maps as i'm sure you all know, i've had cars re-mapped that downed bhp but increased 'performance/driveability'.
i'll get back with costs....it was 4701.32 if i remember right.... was gona get varient 2 coilovers but the 3's were being offered with free fitting so ended up cheaper. looked at cheaper exhausts/supliers but AmD were fitting for free so went with them. all in was about £2100 for the system KW's were 1300 odd, uprated D/V's at 85 odd quid, a new MAF (where most of the performance problems were obviously coming from) new water bottle due to a crack and a general service. i'll get some PC time in shortly an get the info posted

fair play to you mate spending nearly 5 large in one hit lol im lookin at gettin myself some coilovers and were looking at the KW, wots the difference with the variants then? ideally id like to stick some H+R coilys on but can i stress to over 1k for a set of coilys????????????????????? suppose these things take a lot of thinking before deciding wot to put on as its alot of money but id like H+R over the KW's

wot is dynolot mate??

An AmD remap on a B4 S4...you're one sheep that doesn't follow the herd! I think you've may have missed a trick there though.

A lot of upgrades in one go anyway, I hope you enjoy.

As Sheep that doesnt follow the herd? sarcasm i take it? "think you've missed a trick there tho." care to explain?
everything seems great so far i take it you have other idea's where to go/what to do? be interested to hear your actual views?

The sheep and herd comment wasn't sarcasm at all. I mean you have made an individual choice. I don't think I have read or know of anyone that has used the "new generation" AmD for tuning a B5 S4 or RS4. I am sure owners of these vehicles do go there, as you have. Just as a member of some S and RS only communities, where B5 owners are the majority, I have not heard of a single report. I don't know who is responsible for the maps AmD now provide, I can only assume they are not the same as that which the original AmD brand provided and that would be a good thing as they were not the greatest ** for the B5 S4** so far as I can ascertain.

Missed a trick, well I think you could have had a smooth map and a 315BHP from a remap alone. A generic one at that. With that full turbo back exhaust and sports cats you have there, I think you should be looking at 335-340 with a custom map, if you are lucky although I'm told rare even 350. Smooth quality map, that would be safe for the car.

In essense I think what has surprised people is you have travelled the length if the UK, wanting a quality map over peak power and singled out a company that is not to my knowledge reputed to be the best for what you have gone for (tuning specifically), "hence missed a trick".

Was not meant in an agro way.

The positive side is the exhaust and suspension was the bulk of your bill I am sure. You could always treat youself to a different remap another time.

For more specific B5 S4 info you could also checkout audisrs.com (as well as this place,
obviously ;-) ). I know of only one person with an AMD remap and to say they aren't too
happy with it would be an understatement. However, this was before the BBT buyout
and move to Thurrock. They may not source their maps from the same place anymore.
I'd still recommend getting hold of VAG-COM and recording some logs, just to see
what map is in place. The main thing is if you are happy with what you have purchased
and it looks like you are.

Boost pressure does not equal gas flow directly as you've described, opening up the breathing will give you more power at the same boost pressure...

However, more gas flow, even at the same boost pressure, means the turbo is running at higher RPM, and sustained high RPM will kill the blower. The turbos are tiny, and while i havent seen a compressor map, the fact that to go much past 320hp means new turbo time implys to me that your pretty close to the end of the map when running 320hp and most likely reaching or exceeding the turbos safe continous RPM limit.

Turned out my S4 was mapped by AMD from new.

It makes the torque and power, but it's quite spikey and crude in its power delivery.

As I understand it, people like MRC play around with the timing more instead of just winding the boost up too much.

How would a map help flow more volume at the same pressure? The only way you could
do that is change the VE of the engine or the thermodynamics. I have seen MRC mapped
stage 1 cars with 330BHP+ (remap, gutted pre-cats and a catback). From the logged data
I have seen, this improvement over generic maps mostly comes from properly managed
fueling and timing advance. They don't run any more boost than other maps (in a lot of
cases they run less). Do a FATS run with VAG-COM . 4200RPM -> 6500RPM in third gear
on a flat road. That will tell you a lot more about the performance of your car than a
rolling road.

no agro recieved mate just wanted clarification on your thoughts an for the benifit of other forum members. we all have the right to agree or disagree but its only constructive if backed up with why you feel that way.
I went ta AmD (essex) admittidly based on my previous successful visits to bicester an after visiting AmD in october last year. I did approach a few tuner's they were by far the keenest and most helpful both after visiting in person and via e-mail/phone. some just didnt seem ***** that i was gona drive 600 miles an lay 5 grand on the table. regardless of milage or finance the staff at AmD just seemed to have passion about what they were doing an that sold them to me. As far as i'm aware all the staff are entirely new and the only similarity with the old bicester unit is name alone.
As for performance numbers i'm no exspert so left it to there judgement, i did stress however that the nearest exsperts were a ferry trip an a few hundred miles away so i needed performance with reliability

all comments are always welcome mate just wasnt sure what your point was, cheers fur expanding
