Hi all i am thinking of getting the Audi rns-e sat nav unit , anyone here have it? any good ? also would need to hook up bluetooth for phone , is this possible or would i need another attachment ? and the 6 cd changer , would i be able to keep that too ?

rob

Lots of people have one on this forum, lots of people have integrated the BT prep as well. Your CD changer should continue to work.

Yeah Ive had it done, and can definately recommend craig to do it for you. He did me RNS-E, BT & SDS, along with an Ipod connector in the glovebox in a few hours whilst I waited and drank lots of overpriced coffee in Cafe Nero around the corner from his place..Top guy, top service.

so would the phone would work through the mfsw ? i had a parrot in my b6 a4 and the info was displayed on the the instrument dash , is this the same ? also lastly what is the sat nav like , as the factory bmw sat nav i had in my M3 was utter crap !!

Yeah I think if you get a late model bt system there is some voice activation called SDS. I don't have the sat nav but I remember seeing somewhere it doesn't have full postcodes or something?! This is a great forum about the audi sat nav and bt http://audiforum.us/

And I think it's pretty easy to retrofit too, I just need some money to buy it!:keule:

I take it if you have the double din , you can remove old one and slot the RNS-E straight in ?

Also where is the best place to buy one , and which one is best ? all on ebay are second hand / refurbed units !! what would be a decent price to pay ?

Hi, Yeah phone works via BT on MFSW, with callers name/number on DIS and also on the RNS-E display. Voice quality is excellent. You also get a signal strength display icon on the RNS-E. All round quality piece of kit. I got mine for the ease of having SAT NAV, BT & all my music in the car via SD cards (so no CD's sliding about in glovebox etc) without loads of wires trailing everywhere and having to have my TOMTOM visible on the windscreen or wear a BT headset etc.

Well worth the upgrade cost IMHO.

Is ebay the only place to find the rns-e at a decent price ?
cant think of anywhere else to look :faint:

I got mine off e-bay - the 1st one I was sent had a broken Fakra connector - it was changed no probs....

There seem to be some on e-bay selling for around £450 and are including a warranty....sounds good to me

I would be a bit worried about buying a RNS-e from Lithunaia, Poland, etc...but thats only my personal opinion...

Hi mate just purchased my car with the RNS-E sat nav in, also has the6 cd changer and i believe the GSM phone prep (bluetooth)

Amazing piece of kit mate, better than many sat navs out there today by a mile, its very easy to use and very informative, good instructions and clear voice descriptions.

Im absolutly loving the mp3 memory cards too! sound amazing on the 10 speaker bose system.

My advice, get one!

Yep i really want to get one now , but like johnboy said not sure i wanna part with nearly 500 quid for one from lithuania to be honest , any ideas anyone ?

LINK

2008 Nav Plus - I don't know if it would fit, so please check first - but it's got no bids and starting at £350 from a UK seller - runs out at 1919 hours today so don't dilly dally!

after doing a bit of research on these looks like you need an additional part for using your phone with it , is this right ? also if your using the sat nav does this mean you cant listen to radio or cd`s ?

This one looks good, he has 5 to sell, and will listen to offers

Hi Guys,
This is the guy i got my RNS-E from, he is listed as a UK seller but the unit was posted from Germany (£25 postage) and all e-mails i received were with German titles and the rest was in very broken english. The unit i received had some minor cosmetic damage on the back. After A LOT of persuasion, i finally got some money back. Mine was listed as an auction and i got it for just under £400. Overall, not a bad seller and the headunit works and looks (from the front) perfect.

Cheers

Yeah you will need a bluetooth module, microphone and possible something else you can get brand new ones from here >http://www.kufatec.de/shop/product_....html/XTCsid/a8a16823ebfc33934b614b02ce990577 or try ebay. Im sure you can listen to the radio and or CD's while using the sat nav, it would be a bit silly other wise im sure someone who has it will be along soon and can tell you. I really want one now with all this talk! Not that I need to be spending another £500 odd pounds:keule:

Edit: I forgot the link to the new bluetooth units.

Yes, you can listen to cd's or the radio, the sat nav voice just cuts in (you can set the volume) when it needs to give instructions.
Forgot to say, the seller i mentioned supplied all the leads, full cd instruction book + 2008 cd so it was a TRUE 'plug and play'.

so the bluetooth module is an extra 200/300 quid , then the coding for the mfsw and instrument cluster to work , starting to get expensive , maybe a parrot will do the job , sigh :gaehn:

Just picked up and fitted my rns-e , bought from some guy off ebay , i cant believe the difference it makes in the cabin , looks so plush , now i need to sort out the bluetooth side so i can get my phone working
A couple of questions for you guys ,

1. What does the mode button on the mfsw do ?
2. Do i need to gt vag coding done , and if so what dos this do ?
3. Any way of changing the annoying nav voice ?
4. Does it accept voice commands

1. Annoyingly the mode button does nothing which is a shame as it would have been useful to switch between radio, cd etc.
2. No VAG coding needed when i did mine but i'm sure i read somewhere that rarely it might need doing.
3. I have not found a way of changing the voice but i am still fairly new to it and it does not annoy me that much!
4. As standard it won't accept voice commands, not sure if there is a mod available but you can be certain if there is, it will be expensive.

Cheers

All the pinouts are on the paper label on the top of the RNS-E.

Yes, the mic is in the roof light cluster.

BTW all caps is regarded as SHOUTING.
