Just something I've noticed.

I drive with my seat as far back as the runners would allow, I've had the same with B5 S4's.

But, I have a feeling B5 FWD cars are different - the seats appear to go much further back than quattros. All the ones I've driven, I don't drive with the seats right on the runner stops, as it's not comfortable.

Can anyone confirm FWD B5's have more runner travel on the front seats?

Interesting. I'm 6'5", I could do with more travel. My car is a 4-seater, literally noone can fit behind me as the drivers seatback is about 2 inches from yhe rear seat cushion.

the rear floor pan is different on quattros... perhaps the seats are in slightly different positions becuase of this?

weirdly i seem to have more leg room left behind my seat in my 'comfortable' driving position in my quat than i did in my fwd. i had just assumed i was imagining things!

Which does seem to point to the fact the seats go back less, than in FWD models.

Which of course will make for happier rear passengers, but not so much the driver.

Easy, I'll end this discussion now,.........there IS no rear legroom in a B5 lol

yea, but i dont have my seat all the way back in either, so its not like i was limited for travel. i guess it could be due to a change in my driving position between the auto and the manual, not having a clutch and all that.

I am 6'4" and I would love some more legroom in teh back....not that I am ever there!
could do with a couple of inches further travel but it would become a 2+2 if I did!

That's what you get with a longitudinal engine squeezed into a fairly small car.

The part numbers appear the same for the floor assembly quattro or otherwise.

4TH.... It's horrible when i get susggestions from mates that there is more rear leg room in a Micra.:banghead:

The same goes for the A2, I was amazed how much more rear leg room the A2 had over the A4 b5.

I often consider dropping the rear seats in mine permanently as there's never anybody (apart from the pooch) in the rear, the dog's always in the boot which is the only real reason I keep the seats up, to stop her doing a superman into the rear of my seat when some nugget pulls out in front of me! Best Audi for space, value and luxury has to be an A6/S6/RS6 avant, (preferably the later!).
As for the B5, is the floor pan really the same on Q's as fwds? I thought the drive shaft tunnel would make a huge difference?

We need a more scietific method to see if the FWDs mave more legroom and or mor front seat adjustability.

Anyone have acess to both? Siena? lol
Failing that i spose i could measure mine from tip of brake pedal to a point and see how much space between the rear of the front seat and the rear seat lower squab

The wheelbase on the quattro is shorter, this can be seen viewing a quattro side on, the rear wheel sits forward in the wheel arch rather than in the middle of it.

This would perhaps indicate the rear bench sits further forwards?

The rear floor pan is definately different, as the subframe simply has nowhere to go on a FWD B5. Perhaps the rear seats sit slightly further forwards within the shell, and so they've shortened the drivers seat runner slightly so the minimum space in the foot well is the same?

ive noticed it mate to be honest, sold my 1.8 B5 an got my S4 few months ago and when i got in it i thought have i grown in the last few days cuz i felt a bit too close to the steering wheel and my hair was rubbing on the sunroof and im 6'4 and if i put the seat back all the way on my last car i could straighten my leg fully and still have about an inch left on the clutch pedal but my S4 i cant, my seat is fully back and i cant straighten my leg fully so there must be summin to do with it.

Good job I'm only 5' 11" then :)

I drive around with the seat on the absolute lowest setting all the time though,...........and the missus sometimes leaves the seat up in the air and I can barely get in with my head against the roof.

Seems odd to have all the 3 full rear seatbelts, the 3 plush rear headrests, the luxurious rear armrest.............and you can barely get a ****** adult in the back with his/her legs wrapped around the front seat and their size nines squeezed sideways in the rear footwell.

This was another bonus of fitting my Recaro Pole Positions, gained no end of extra rear leg room due to the seats being so thin.

Rubbish pic, but you get the idea.

Stapo, those seats would look good in Outlaw. :eyebrows:

Stapo do you have a pic of the fronts? just a silly question i assume they don't recline :eyebrows:

^^^ Yep, they're fixed backrest.

Here you go.

They are a good looking seat, and after last weekends 1000 mile round trip to the Nurburgring I can confirm they are ****** comfy, no back ache, nothing, one thing that did worry me a little when I bought them, and they perform real well too when hammering it round a track. And yes, an arm rest and everything!

are they direct from recaro mate? i have promo pictures of rs4's with very similar seats, were they ever offered as an optional extra?

They.re straight from Recaro, got a good deal at E38 last year, basically paid for the seats and got side mounts and subframes free, weren't an option on B5s but the were in the TTS

wow there is no hiding from the fact they are RECARO's
