Hi everyone first time post and after advice already.

I am looking at an audi a4 avant ut i think my budget is a little low (4 to 4.5k) and am in two minds wheather to buy a a4 avant 2.0FS sport as ive heard they are a little gutless.

The one im looking at only has an hour to run on ebay (ill never learn not to buy from there).

Should i buy that with 67k on the clock or would i be better off looking at others and but ending up with higher mileage?

I bought a TT 220bhp convertable new in 2003 and loved it but kids and the fact this will be my 3rd car this year after 2 very bad decisions mean im panicking .

Cheers

I would say look at getting a 1.8TQ harder to find I know but it will be a much better car but if you have to FWD will do but I think you may be happier with the 1.8T or thinking about it a TDI

yeah I have heard the 2.0 is gutless, I would look for something with a bit more poke like a 1.8t or a tdi.

thanks for all the replies. I didnt bid on the 2.0 avant in the end a combination of the poor feedback, his attitude to all my questions(surely if they put a better description on there is less need for questions?) and my worry over getting bored of the engine power quickly stopped me doing it.

docurley some crackers there ill have a look only thing is my last two cars have been high mileage and ive had no end of problems so im trying to look at lower mileage ones and i seem to only like cars with leather.

Am i being completely unrealistic? if i had to I could increase my cash a little but in the current crunch i dont want to wipe myself out completely.

Thanks again everyone.

Oh my wife thinks im mad for not buyin g the one on ebay as its "sensible" surely me buying an estate is sensible enough. I need something to keep me interested.

forgot to add if the 02 plate one with 60k on the clock on autotrader had leather id have been very excited.

a low mileage 1.8t avant with a good spec is not really a realistic option at 4k mate IMO good luck though u never know. you could always try the auctions the current climate has pulled the prices right down at the moment.

not so sure... in January, there was a real lull, but there's lots of people upgrading cars with decent 2nd hand options now, so the prices have gone up since that real lull over the last couple of months: a friend owns a 2nd hand car dealership that does Audi fleet cars and said that Jan was his highest turnover month in the last few years and Feb was the most profitable Feb in years.... mostly due to the higher volumes, but he reckons the prices are back up to where they were mid-late last year now.

4k will probably get you a slightly above average reasoanble spec 1.8T saloon, 4.5k might get you the same Avant... but if you're fixed on price and want leather, etc, you'll probably ahve to trade that off for higher mileage...

doc - that's a cat D on HPI.... hence the <£6k price....

still, it's only catD and those S-lines with that mileage, engine and year are normally closer to £8k or so....

Thanks again everyone i looked at the one with 35k on clock but its a cat D so wont go near it. ive looked at the budget and I can go to 5k.

Ive decided not to rush as although i cant stand my current car it is usable untill i find the right one.

Worst case I will wait till the end of July and up my budget again to 7ish to give me a better choice although in an ideal world id rather not.

My car was CAT D which meant I only needed a MOT to put it back on the road and I paid £4200 with the damage still on the car.

cheers again Doc for the links that black one is very nice.
I just prefer the shape of the avant to the saloon unsure why as with most cars iots the other way around for me

ok quick update im about to ring robtaylors off of this site to arrange to view his 1.8t A4 avant. Im just waiting for my wife and daughter to finally finish getting dressed so i can call him to arrange.

I know the price he is after and am happy on that end just need to make sure the exhaust doesnt put me in the boyracer brigade and then it should be done.

I know it doesnt have leather but it does tick a lot of boxes.
under 75k miles TICK
1.8T Tick
FSH TICK

so to say im excited is a little bit of an understatement.

The Milltek is not much louder than stock just a little deeper trust me I have one on my car and it does not drone either so you will be fine.

It looks like a great car and you can always pick up a leather trim at a later date.

Thanks everyone for all their help and a big thanks to Rob top bloke. Ive now put a deposit on his avant and should be getting it in a week or so once the plate is off.

The exhaust was completely different to what i thought it would be nice an quiet untill foot is to the floor.

Just off to find a decent price for some tyres for when i collect my new baby WAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO very happy man now.

looks great.... only way it would have been better would have been a quattro ;) but then you lose out on fuel economy....

is that the Sport? Definitely Sport spec seats, and looks like colour coded trim all round, but not full S-Line (which I don't think came out until 2003)?

Deffo a Sport, easiest waay to tell is with the three spoke steering wheel, as although some may upgrade the seats few go to the trouble of changing the wheel unless fitting an MFSW ;)

Nice car though, welcome to the forum :salute:

It will be interesting to hear how 200 bhp drives through the front wheels!

Agree it's a sport... been a bit messed around I think. I'd look for a nice unmollested Quattro if I was you. 200bhp through front wheels is not good in my opinion but then who am I.... I hope you enjoy your new toy!!

How has it been messed about with? It is a sport (because it's got the steering wheel, seats, gear knob and the 5 spoke alloys) with roof rails, a milltek (sp?) and a remap.

200bhp will be fine through the front wheels, unless you are going to go mad into the corners and roundabouts! I think it looks good, well wear with her and it looks much better than the original car you were looking at!

Don't forget to post some pics when you get it

NOT been messed about with , i can vouch for that as its my car !! lot of love and money has gone into this car :)

Thanks for everyones positivity on my new car as i said im very excited and the 200bhp didnt seem to have any problems with being just fwd. A quatro would have been nice but to be honest what was more important for me was getting a avant that had been looked after and this one certainly has. So if anyone sees me driving give me a wave

Just to update the thread an let everyone know I collected the car on Sat afternoon from Rob and what a car it is. After collecting it I went and got four new tyres fitted and spent Sunday dodging the rain and gave her a good polish.
I love this car nice and responsive when I need her to be and sedate when I don’t perfect combination for me I think.

Rob asked me when I collected it if I had any plans to do anything to her and my initial response was no but already I think that may be changing.

Currently looking at getting the side skirts, front bumper and rear valance colour coded when time and funds allow.

And also thinking of getting leather interior as well

I just went out to take some pics and it looks like my car has been attacked by pigeons so I will get some photos after I clean her again at the weekend.
:yahoo:

Glad you are pleased with it :)

I have just re-looked at the original ebay advert with the big twin pipes and the standard non-colour coded rear valance - my plan for the near future ;)
