Removing standard 3.0Tdi tailpipes?

I have a question if anyone can help me, i want to remove the standard tailpipes from my 3.0 Tdi A4, but they seem to welded on can anyone

confirm this?

I would like to fit some nice chrome pipes in place of the nasty angled audi ones.

How old is your A4? My A5 3.0Tdi has nice shiny pointy outy ones.

I assume you could do a cut and paste?

You would need to cut them off and weld new ones on. The B7's have totally different tailpipes to the A5's. Check out the Powerflow website for lots of different tips

Would it be fine to just bolt on the new tailpipes?

Cutting the exhaust shouldnt be too much of a prob just need to find tailpipes that will clear the bodywork at the back

yeh guess the 56 Reg is the old model. WOuld be more difficult probably and I assume they turn down for a reason...BO?

56 reg is the 'previous' model and my cousin who knows audis well reckons the tail pipes turn down to stop black soot sticking to rear bumper cos they don't have a dust something filter...

They would be better welded on, looking for ones with bolt attachments would lead you straight into the door at Halfords ..... Plus in time the bolts will come loose and the pipes would become crooked and then fall off ....

You are comparing an A4 to an A5 anyway, I think the A5 is the only model that doesn't have the downswept tailpipes as standard on the diesel models (except possibly the very latest A6's?).

It's true that they are downswept to prevent the soot forming, but it's a popular mod to make a feature out of the tailppes anyway, and soot build up isn't a problem as you will know from your A5

So in theory i know their swept down to prevent crap from going up the back bumper, but your saying this shouldnt really be too much of a problem if i change it for a straight pipe?

I suppose i could always try getting a chrome down swept set.

Yeah the theory is that because they don't have the particle filter more soot will come out and stick to the bumper but I think you should get the straight pipes, they will look better and sure if the car gets dirty you can clean it.

Yeah ill see about changing them to straight pipes, ill just have the cut the exhaust tip off myself!

Say can anyone confirm if the BOSE system comes with an ipod connection or is this extra?

Im pretty sure it was an extra, the connection will be in your glovebox if you have it. I retrofitted the audi mine because I got it for cheap but if your going to buy one, I get one with a dock ( i think Denison uses one) that can be controlled by the ipod the audi one isn't the best.

I have the ten speaker bose system with sat nav but dont see any ipod connection in the glovebox, just the 6 cd changer.

I should point out i dont pick the car up until next week

Ah ok since it has the cd changer it won't have an ipod connection but with the sat nav you don't really need it because the nav has 2 memory card slots that can hold lots of music, do a search on the forum and you'll find lots more info on it.

And don't forget some pics when you get the car

Yes obcourse i remember seeing those card slots and wondering what the hell they were for, thats excellent.

Yes ive been searching for months for the right 3.0 TDi and tore the dealers arms and legs off when i found it, having it remapped next week hopefully to 275bhp.

Ill get some pics up friday when i pick her up and shes having that paint protection thing and a full valet so should be clean.

O and its not as though my tax is cheap at the minute it's €604 for 12 months! Total rip off.

A3/Sportback 2.0Tdi 170 BHP have had straight out pipes for years, A5's as you say + new A4/A6 & TT

Hey mate, I would simply buy a new sport flow exhaust instead of modifying the standard stuff.

If it was me i'd like to sell it untouched..but thats just me.. Good luck!

Another option for your tailpipes, which i have done with my 3.0 Tdi S LINE avant, is polish the standard ones. I used autoglym paint renovator and a rag, took about 1/2 hour and a lot of elbow grease. They came up just like a chrome tip, absolutely perfect. You have the advantage of very low cost, quick and keeping the car standard but making a massive improvement to the look of the car.
Good luck with the new car mate, you will be pleased with it i'm sure. I will be interested to know which re-map you go for and results, its going to be my next mod.

I found mas performance quoted me £240 for a 35-40bhp increase on a custom map, which is done at my house. May go with them.
