Best Running Shoes?

I'm getting my **** into gear and have started running around my local park. My current trainers are old and battered and I don't feel they do the job. Does anyone else run often and if so, which shoes are best? Any advice is warmly received. I'm going into town on the weekend and haven't a clue what i'm looking at!

Asics were always good runners shoes tbh, but comfort wise I cant fault Nike, even if some look hideous, they are ****** comfortable.

I went to a running shop in Reading where they test you pronation then find trainers to suit. I ended up with some Mizunos which were the most comfy trainers ever!! Then when I ran in them after about 1/4 mile my lower legs seized up and I had to stop.

I ended up getting some Nike Air Pegasus's:

They were great. I did the 2006 Snowdonia marathon (plus the training up to it) in them and they are still together now, albeit a bit battered.

I have since bought some Nike Air Zoom Victory:

They're very comfy apart from the heel. It's pretty rigid and rubs into my heel so I'm having to wear 2 pairs of socks. I'm sure they'll weaken up eventually. BUT they do have an insert for a Nike+ tablet which is pretty useful.

Back in the day when I worked in JD's, I used to recommend Asics or Mizunos. A Nike rep once told me that 90% of trainers sold were for fashion and I am sure this still stands.

I would take staz1000's recommendation of visiting a specialist sports shop. 'Run and Become' springs to mind who sell a variety of makes and models including Nike and Reebok. They allowed my wife to run up and down the street so that they could see how the trainers performed, before she bought the right ones. Some shops use treadmills; I just used to look at their feet while they were standing there...As you can imagine, JD's had a reputation for people running out of the store and not coming back to pay!

i used to be a trainer freek youse to pay up to 170 for a pair and ive had alot and every make and about 30 pair of different stye nikes but NHN is right for running no bull asics gel are the best period there excellent for foot support and lower leg tension ..... you will pay 70 to 110 for a decent pair

Asics, Mizunos and Nikes all the way mate, it just comes down to personal preference from there, I used to work in a sports shop a few years ago and we used to sell quite alot of the mentioned to alot of runners, we did however sell alot of the Nike air range to runners if that helps.

I only buy adidas trainers but never been into running just general sport.

Dude, you know its really not good wearing the same pair of trainers for 7 years on the run!!! (excuse the pun)

Depends on the lightness of the trainers and how much that means to you.
Nike are not the lightest but I think they're excellent, especially the SHOX.

Asics are very light but don't last all that long, the uppers can be a bit soft and unsupportive.

Weight shouldn't be an issue for most people, after all the Army make soldiers run in boots.

There used to be a shop oposite the train station, but I am not sure if it is still there.
