Well gents,
Obviously the removal of the girls kissing pic from my sig has become a bit of an issue on here. So far it's been mentioned on 2 other threads, mostly on Blazin's and he's a bit fed up with it now.
I think it's important for us to discuss the issue on a dedicated thread so we can get it all in the open. It's especially important for me to air my views on it too so you can understand my reasons better.
I'll leave this thread open for a day or 2 and then close it when a resonable conclusion has been made, and most of all accepted. Perhaps not by all, but most.
Firstly I want to get out of the way the matter of timing. I only became a Mod on Sunday morning and KatieKatie aired her views Sunday too. She also sent me a PM asking for its removal. I consulted the admin team and WE decided it was better to take it off so as not to cause further offense. Now, had I not been a Mod I cannot honestly say what my reaction would have been. I have always maintained that if someone were to complain (other than Blazin lol) I would take it down straight away. I just don't know.
Now I understand that most are annoyed by Katie's reaction mainly because she's new to the forum and also because she, within her first few posts, gave Blazin a hard time. BUT I want you all to realise that actually for a girl it is actually a pretty offensive image. It's been mentioned a few times that we would all be offended if it were 2 men kissing, it's a good point which still stands.
Forums rely on their members and the more diverse they are the better. Of course men are the main car enthusiasts in this world but women are more than welcome to join in. They would certainly bring something different to the table.
It's important to make new members welcome and Katie is no different. She may have annoyed others but if we maintain a friendly atmosphere she should see that and will hopefully fully suit. If you look she already has.
The sig has gone and it will stay that way. I have only left a link on there so if anyone wants to copy the image to their computer they still can. After a couple of days the link will go too.
I fully agree that if someone is offensive on this forum the members should be fairly open with their feelings about them. The removal of my sig should not be a channel for airing those view though.
This is not a "nanny" reaction. The picture is against ASN rules and causes offense to others, simple as.
