hi all problems once again!!! please anyone help me out on this, my car which is 2.0tdi year 2004, makes a vibrating noise when its idle, if i get it on the BITEING POINT it get even loader, but if a rev the engine even a lttle the vibration noise goes away, can anyone tell what it can be, as it never did that before, i checked the engine bay but cant see anything loose, well to be honest cant even hear it when the bonnet is up as the engine it loud. any help please

really, do you know which one? and how i can check it?

full lock the steering wheel right and see if the noise or vibration is still there, while the car is still and idle, happened to mine, but guy at audi said its self adjusting and will sort it self out after a long run, if not its knakered

ok cool mate will do that, but what part is it we talking about

is there any place i could look for the fault, and u think i need to sort it out or shell i just leave it? worried if i do leave it, it might turn into a more expensive job

i was told to leave it until it develops into a bigger problem, and as the audi tech said it was self adjusting and it did fix itself, i never did anything and it has not happened since, but best to get diagnosed anyway by a garage so u know for definate

i think i have this same problem, however i have replaved the tensioner and it sounds worse!!! however i would describe the sound as real loud vibration and almost like smacking on plastic and you can feel the vibrations at idle and when drivig through the steering wheel???

any ideas???

Do you have vagcom.

Mine did somehing similar when the torsion was out on the cam.

It was at -3.9 and it should be between 2 and -2 - I've booked it in to get corrected and that should solve the prob but you can do it yourself - you can check the cam timimgn torsion via vagcom.

Worth checking the Mass sensor, temp sensor, flywheels and makesure the egr & imf are all clean.

Have you had the cambelt done recently as well?

Sounds like tensioner to me.

& Kaz where was your air leak on tdi.

Well joining the club here, turbo blown while in slovenia & border with italy, so I' well & truly ****** offfffffffffffffff

So looking at hybrid upgrade after my holiday, this will be fun fitting, find local garage to borrow there ramps.

I've got a spare one if that helps at all - its new and recond with 12month warranty- sure i can get it posted to you somehow :S

The turbos on our TDIs are absolute ****** - around 90% of the people i know with the early TDIs have had blown turbos! Dont drive it, when you fit the new one, fill it with oil before connecting the oil feed pipe, flush the engine, clean the hose that goes to the turbo to intercooler, flush the intercooler and renew all seals/gasket!

Turbos are a pain in the **** if they blow normally but being as far as you are from home, feel for you!

Hope you get it sorted!

Cheers Kaz, well took the intercooler pipes of & as expected caked in oil, so that will be 1st to clean up, need to get on ramp to remove turbo etc as cant get behind, but not impossible job tbh, from elsa seems straight forward, just have to find the damn air leak which I reckon is what caused this or could be the solenoid block valve which houses the N75 amongst other valves in one unit now, we'll see.

What do people recommend to clean the oil out & when you flushed the intercooler, was it a removal job then clean out then refit?

Teaching me more about the car now, oh well in one big way I was unlucky in another was lucky as VAG dealer round corner who stuck it on trailer & drove us back to italy at a cost but still better than being stuck up **** creek without.....................

Ah owning cars, a bain sometimes, but quite looking forward to refitting turbo, also realised the engine seemed little loose, rocked the gearbox & seems the engine/box mount on that side is very loose/worn so another reason to take it all out, might help what I always thought was a loose drive somewhere, but do I upgrade bushes to powerflex while in there, another cost.
