Hopefully picking up a LCR splitter this weekend too!

Theres some good instructions on de chroming here if your tempted:

Its very easy! Well worth giving it a go!

I like that, I think it really suits your black S3. I'm not sure it would look so good on other colours though.

Looking good mate.

I did this too on my minger and it really updates the front of the car. A few of my mates thought I had bought a whole new grille. It will get a bit stone chipped but you can easily pop off the surround and give it a quick spray.

Nice work, does look good on black S3's...the Crome Audi badge goes nicely with your wing mirrors too !!

Yeah I thought about doing the badge but I feel you need to leave it chromed if you have chrome mirrors. All black stealth grill and rings does look the muts on Dennis Moller's car as he has black mirrors.

Gotta admit it does look good!! Not sure it would work on my Sunburst red though but you never know.

Yeah Dennis mollers does look the ********...:iagree:

Cheers for the comments. You could try spraying the chrome surround in red? Could look good, I agree the chrome does look some what dated!

I've been very tempted by some new alloys this month, loving the BBS LM's, probably have to get reps though as there far to expensive new!

Did you go with an undercoat of primer? what paint and process did you use? Looks the dogs!

I sanded the chrome down with some wet and dry paper (quite a time consuming task!) and gave it 5 coats of some spray plastic primer I got from Halfords. I then gave it 4 coats of audi black spray paint, also from Halfords. I'm sure I may have gone over the top with the amount of coats I gave it but I want it to last! Really happy with the finish, looks like its been done in the factory! Its a very easy process but take a little bit of time with having to wait for the paint to dry etc.

I'm sure time will tell as to how long it will last, as Westle said, its easie enough to just give it another coat if it gets chipped etc!

Looks good - might give that a go myself.

Any photoshoppers out there who could mock up a red grill on a black car? - just interested to see how it would look - a la Golf GTi

All black would look nice on a Red S3..

This was my effort on my Silver S3

That's damned fine looking car there mate. Brilliant job.

Looking at it now if I did spray my one and the audi badge it would look pretty good ofset against the red. Then probably would have to get black alloys for the effect to be completed.

Had a go at a red grill with MS paint - not keen so i got some black paint on my way home and will be having a crack at this over the weekend.

Its held in with about 20 lugs/clips and takes a bit of 'persuading' i took mine out tonight and managed to snap one off - you need to use a flat head screwdriver and a bit of force but once a few are loose it is pretty easy to get it out.

remove the bumper....trust me its easy, four plastic plugs on the slam panel (use a screw to remove the inner plug and the same for the outer) then two screws underneath and I think four torx? screws in the inner arch and have something soft to lay it on about two inches forward of its original position as the headlight washers are connected then its plain sailing.
I did it today when it was baking hot and once underneath undoing the screw it rained...typical.

you see i like the chrome badge, lets evryone know youv got an audi, poor man speaking from the likes of having a toyota hilux, but i fee kinda let down as the TDI doesnt have a nice frontal badge any one seen any small tdi badges on any other cars i can nick...
before any one says anything my tdi keeps up with my mates ST which he hates:D:keule:

If you only want the grill surround out, jsut get a smaller screwdriver and ease it off, same with the rings, I did this, no need for the bu,per to come off, my thread is on here somewhere.

you need to do the badge black to match and do the inside of your headlights like mine to give the mean darkside look!

Im looking at putting my new bumper on soon(from A3Turbo) I want the chrome rings as IMHO the rings are to be noticed because your proud to own an Audi. Anywho I dont know if I should chrome the grille or do it black. My car is merlin purple so quite dark?? What do you think??

Ps loving you'rs olly, looking good :icon_thumright:

Rings silver, surround black :)

Simples!! Exactly what I thought. However im going to have to buy the whole grille I think as I cant seem to buy a surround anywhere. And I cant use my A3 one as the grille on the new bumper is an S3 one :(

what a mod. The black surround looks the mutts nuts!!!

I'm doing mine this weekend along with the facelift headlights, should make the car look soooo much better from the front. IMO the pre-facelift S3 looks a bit tired and old on the front where as the rest of the car looks really up to date, this will just finish it of nicely!
