Hi

I'm looking to buy a 2001/2002 A4 Avant 2.5TDI 180 Quattro and could do with some guidance about what to look out for and some suggestions as to what I should be paying for this. (I've not had an Audi before)

1) Anything serious to look out for?
2) Is there a limit to mileage that I shouldn't consider going over?
3) I believe the cam belt needs to be changed every 60K miles - is this correct?
4) What is the difference between the SE and the Sport editions?
5) What should I expect to pay for a sport or SE 2001/2 with <70,000 miles?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome :)

This question has been asked a few times recently, so have a search through the forums and most of the answer will be there in greater detail. Try HERE and HERE first off.

1) The car itself is a pretty reliable model, I think the suspension arms can be prone to wear on the early models. The engines themselves are a bit more fragile and can be oprone to cam wear, timing belt problems and fule pump problems - none being cheap to rectify!
2) Not really, more dependant on FSH and condition, and impending service time!
3) Audi recommend 80k for the cambelt, but 60k is an absolute max to be on the safe said IMO.
4) Guessing at prices, have a look on Auto Trader or Ebay for ideas, but I would imagine you would be looking at about £5-6k?

Did you add another question??

SE has a full trip computer as opposed to the DTE gauge on the Sport. Sport has 20mm lower and firmer suspension, and a three spoke steering wheel and nice sports seats with an adjustable bolster. There are probably other differences, but they are the main ones.

I was after a Sport, but got an SE as it was too good to miss, and apart from the seats, most things are quite easily upgradeable.

Seen any you like yet?
