unsure what to buy people.
i know i want a 04 onwards a3 diesel what yous reckon a good trade off between cash and spec would be.would really like se?
fancy bit of toys if i can. was thinking around the £7000 mark?
what yous think. ta

SE is the comfort spec, then sport then s-line.

A3 diesel - 2 engines -1.9 and 2.0 TDI.

For £7k - I'd look for a sport/se with around 70k, 2004, with a few extras like armrest, storage pack, cruise maybe etc - 2.0 TDI 140bhp engine.

Sports got fairly hard supension, SE's are a softer ride..

Your budget and driving preference dictate this ultimately, but I've driven the SE and S-Line and I bought an S-Line. I found the SE far to soft, the steering gave next to no feedback, and it inspired little confidence in corners. If you want an enjoyable drive I'd trade of a lower spec S-Line against a high spec SE, but it's ultimately up to you.

I find mine SE VERY confident in corners .... but i never tried an s-line so cant compare.

If you are interested i have a 2.0TDI SE with most extras you can have (black leather, DSG, cruise, auto wipers and so on ... ) its an 04 plate but coming up to a 100k
Give me a shout if your interested, i'm looking for just over 6k

Agreed. I've not driven an S-Line but I did drive a Sport at the Sportback's launch and found the ride both firm and harsh. My view is that the ride/handling mix of the A3 is poor against the competition whichever model you look at.

This is a well trodden topic really. The SE is still really firm compared to other cars, but I think its the smaller 16" wheels make it a little more pliant. I added 17s to mine and it firmed up a little.
