My car... a work in progress

Ok that's a little more constructive wizbit... I understand some peeps associate mesh with boy racer... that's not the image I was looking for. 'In the flesh' it actually looks quite good, I was suprised at how it came out as I am not good at making stuff up...

Anyway, just wanted to gauge opinion on it... and appreciate your input mate. As I am not looking for the boy racer look.... btw do you not like the rs style grill? and apart from not liking mesh do you think it looks like I made it, lol :)

rs6 and rs4 have mesh great looking cars ....the top mesh looks better where it looks thicker and when its on the car might actually look ok its a bit like rs4 mesh but thinner it may turn out great once the number plate is on and audi rings on with surround i say give it a go people may be surprised

No problem, sorry if i came across beligerent but your view of my view is correct ;)

Fair play on getting stuck in though, and good luck with it

I tried sourcing the RS4 style mesh, but Audi don't sell it separately, and I could not fond anything else that big, so I tried to get mesh that was as close to the Oettinger grill mesh as possible-

Just by Looking at this example... your On to A winner......Just to let you mate. :salute:

Rs looking good... like the mesh grill. Cant wait to see it on your car :thumbsup:What other plans do you have for the car now?

Thanks

Ashley

Hi Ash & diggs... cheers for the vote of confidence :icon_thumright: I am finishing the grill off today, as I need to fit to me new bumpers...

Ash here's a quick run down of what I still have to fit (should be done by this evening though).

2006 S-line front bumper (with same style mesh as grill for fog surrounds)
2009 S-line rear bumper (with mesh inserts)
LED number plate lights
Chrome tail pipes

After that I will probably do RNS-E upgrade, when funds permit... and the wrap come summer. I think I will also need to lower it on Eibach's and change the wheels or get mine seen to as the previous owner has curbed the lot! I'll leave it there as I am really debating getting a S3 SB if all goes well into next year.

Oh yeah... a Votex roof spoiler

Finally.... Nearly finished the grill and got bumpers fitted..... still need to get the mesh that sits in the rear splitter/ diffuser, but looking quite good IMO.

What do you guys think of the grill? Still need the number plate cover or whatever it's called and the guys who sprayed mt bumper didn't do the part that is visible through the grill so it's red behind there... not sure you can see it in pics but standing above the red old bumper colour is visible... will sort it soon!

I quite like that. Well done!

I'd like to get rid of the chrome finish on the frame and go for a brushed aluminium or satin finish ala the RS models. Thing is I just don't know how to go about it.

RS i'd say that looks really good. Makes the car look much better and quite mean. I like it. How much it cost for that mod? Any more photos of the new front grill? Wonder what it looks like with a optic grill

yeah does look quite good, Alot meaner to i like it ......

Cheers guys, the comments are much appreciated!

Ron I wanted to sand it down but had it sitting around teh house for too long and the misses was getting shirty about it, lol. I will probably take it off and do it one sunday afternoon as it would look really nice like that.

Alright Ashley, the grill I used cost me 40 or 50 quid can't remember now, the mesh was about £15, some glue about a fiver and an S-line decal - £12, blood sweat and tears.... priceless, lol, just kidding cost was circa £80 I reckon.

I haven't taken any more pics yet.. took those before shooting off to an appointment.
Will do some more later, but my favourite angle so far is when looking at it from the side it looks flush and makes the front look alot better IMHO. When finished off with number plate holder and a touch ups will look pretty good I hope.

Ta blazin, I do appreciate teh votes of confindence.... I won't lie I was pretty 50/50 about it until I got it on there.

Here's those pics of the "facelifted" rear end, those ****** chrome pipes get pretty grubby with the diesel fumes pelting out!

Next I want to de-badge the rear.... this modding is very addictive!

What year bumper is that.... Is it the full bumper you changed or just the lower section ??? Looks good mate

The grille looks awesome. :beerchug:

Oh, how did you adhere the Audi logo?

blazin, that bumper is from the face lift sportback, 2009 model. I changed the whole bumper. I'm not sure that it will fit the 2006 model bumper... didn't get to the bottom of that as could'nt source a 2nd hand 2006 bumper and ended up buying new 2009 one from Audi.

Hi and thanks alot Lima! Much appreciated :icon_thumright:
I used a metal adhesive much like this one

RapidSteel.jpg

to stick the rings on. Looked a bit meesy behind rings, so sprayed over in black... although nobody see that part.... just looked a lil ugly at the time :)

I'm pretty sure you didnt need to change the rear bumper, just the diffuser.

What is the diffuser the grey bit at the bottom ..are you sure they are a straight swap though i was going to get an s3 one of ebay and he said it wouldnt fit ?????

What are the major advantages over springs

Well coilovers (some models) are height adjustable and damper adjustable, so you can adjust your height and your ride stiffness. So if your not happy, you can change. Once you get springs, however the look and drive that is it. So if your not happy, then your £99+install, then needs to be removed, then buy coilovers etc.

All a long process. What I've learnt from life in my 24 years so far is

BUY ONCE.

Hi blazin, there's a guy here called Frenchy2475 who works in audi parts here's what he said about the valance fitting:

Right the valance will not fit your 06 bumper just looked at pic of both 06 and 09 on ETKA and they look very different.

Also the valance itself is fairly priced - circa £60, but the mesh insert that go into it cost £90! Hence why I haven't got them yet, lol... parting with £90 for plastic hurts, but will have to be done in the name of OEM :) Although my mates keep pointing out to me you can't notice the holes the mesh slots into, so I dunno....

Anyway, you might be able to mod it to fit somehow?

Cheers N8KOW,

I know what you mean about buying once, and that's sound advice mate... however sometimes funds only permit you to buy what you can afford :) lol. I have been checking Ebay out for some coilovers but seems that £400+ is the starting price for them.... That's RNS-E teritory and I know which I'd rather.

well done mate its its starting to look like mine lol.... good mod though so much better than the old lights just need to code em now eh then youle see how good they look at night ..awesome

Hi, just wanted to know what tyres you have on your audi?

Hi, just wanted to know what tyres you have on your audi?

Falcon fk 452s there 225/35/19 N8KOW advised me on them and I'm not disappointed there great the grip is great to ....

The grill is looking good mate but id get either paint the surround matt black or get some matt black vinyl, would finish it off nicely!

Tom

wow that looks really nice

i think i will have to change my a3 to have the front like that

More grill pictures... Still waiting for my flippin number plate holder to arrive!
You can see the red of the old bumper in these pics, but if you look to the left hand side of the red section it is Lava grey on the corners. When sprayed like this you cannot really notice this part.

I am deabting whether to wrap the chrome section in satin black and add cupra lip, what do you guys think?

Grill seem to be getting alot attention from fellow Audi drivers across the range... Has stumped a few people, had an RS4 avant driver puzzled at the lights wondering what he was looking at :)

Cheers diggz :icon_thumright:

You'll need new fogs for your S-line bumper, as the old ones won't fit. These can be had for around £40-£60 on ebay then sell your old ones for around the same!

did u have to change ur bonet aswell as you change the front bumper?

No andyb, I already had a 'big grill' bumper and bonnet as my car is a sportback. They didn't make them without.

yeah mate id just but the black surround and throw the cupra lip on like mine are cars are pretty simlar lol i glossed me cupra lip to go with the surround looks much better imho......

Might look good with Green tail lights?:w00t:

Sorry only jokin ... looks good.

Hello blazin mate,

I think I will get the wrap on the chrome soon, or spray it satin silver akin to the mirrors. Also have the roof rails scheduled to be sprayed soon, but am awaiting advice on the colour match.

Cars on it's way to being where I want it to be... have ordered an RNS-E from ebay (awaiting delivery) looking for bluetooth and mfsw, poss fbmfsw, then lowered and maybe switch rims or have these tarted up as last owner clearly had no idea on how to park. Also doing sharkfin ontop instead of farka on dash... private plate and bobs me uncle!

KatieKatie, I was looking for green lights but couldn't source any... if you could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated! :eyebrows:

The finish or how it looks?

I can picture it already once the chrome is black or get a black surround and cupra lip it would look great.... The chrome looks fatter because the mesh is behind it , So if you got a black one it would tone it down and even it out and cupra lip to fatten things up would be the icing on the cake for me....

I think if you go with the optics style grill on the Lava pearl you have to have the cupra lip to add some more black to the front or it doesn't look quite right for me, personally... I am thinking a few options through grill wise, but have the major mods rns-e & sharkfin, bluetooth, etc to get through first.

Well as we've had half decent weather I thought I would give all this s**t I bought from halfords on their 3 for 2 (cheers blazin!) a try. I got a load of Meguiars stuff, namely gold class shampoo & wax, clay kit inc quck detail (I love this stuff!) and sample of cleaner wax and microfiber cloth. Got a bit anal and bought the meguiars wash mit, drying cloth and hot tyres (trye shine) as well. Couple of buckets of water, and a microfiber cloth later here's the results... Must say I was impressed, beats the job the local Afghan lad's usually do.... Didn't get the clay on it as was pressed for time but it got everything else with the cleaner wax replacing the polish (does both).
