I had coolant light come on 3 weeks ago, checked the tank and it was below MIN. Went to Audi and got some G12 plus, topped up with coolant and water to the max mark when everything was stone cold. 3 weeks later the coolant level again is below min. Shouldnt be losing that amount of coolant so soon so Im booked in with Macclesfield Audi this thursday and have a courtesy car reserved for me. My car still has another 10 months warrenty left. I thought this issue was mainly with 2004 A3's? Mines a 56 plate covered appx 32000 miles. Could be anything from leaky pipes to leaky rad to cracked cylinder head. As long as it gets fixed ok under warrenty I dont care. Will keep you updated.

i thought you done this thread already.......

My Coolant Light came on three times during the cold weather took it in to Epsom Audi and they replaced the Expansion tank and switch, no sign of any coolant leaking, still checking to see if any further prob's
56 Reg 2.0 TDI 170 QUATTRO

My light has come on once for 30 secs then went off, when I checked the tank it was below MIN, so I topped it upto MAX. Couple of week later its very very low again but not COOLANT light come on. Ive had a good look around and cant see any leaks but its being lost somewhere.

God luck with getting this sorted Mikey. Would be interested to hear the findings after the garage have investigated it. Certainly hope this isn't going to be something affecting all TDI engines.

garge now know my problem after fixing

-egr
-head gasket
-cracked pipe

and the problem is CYLINDER HEAD a good 2k's at audi but the garage are only charging me the parts because i think they know they cocked by telling me the loss was fixed twice but it wasn't

but a £500 bill is far better than a £1000-£2000

Mine dropped a load of coolant suddenly late last year. Topped it up and never had any problems since, weird.

UPDATE:

Dropped my car off at Audi this morning and they gave me a 58 plate A4 2.0TDI, nice car actually. I checked my coolant on the dealers forecourt before handing the keys over and the coolant was VERY VERY low this morning!!!!

Service manager has just rang me with an update. Said it could be 1 of 2 things, or both. They are fitting a new EGR valve tomorrow, they are waiting for the part to arrive. OR it could be the cylinder head. They are going to complete the pressure test today/tomorrow. He's giving me updates tomorrow. But so far great service by the dealer.

all the best of luck mate, hope its nothing too serious, keep us informed too mate!!!

no skin off my nose if it is serious, its all under warrenty. IF it's the head id rather it be that now than this time next year when it's out of warrenty. It's a little concerning IF it is the head though because I thought this common problem was only effected by the 2004 A3's, not the late 2006 models.

I have thought my car is leaking something before. Sometimes there is a yellow residue down the fog lamp surounds.

Then I thought "hmm maybe its dogspiss"?

Thing is that dog must like my car because Ive spotted said yellow residue on multiple occasions now :p

coolant isnt yellow though its pink. So maybe it is dog ****, niiiiice!!!

Thats a result I'd say huh, thank feck Mike.

well 2 weeks has now passed and.......STILL losing coolant, on a more rapid rate then before!!!!!!!!!!! So it looks like its DEFFO the head. Its going back to Audi next week. All under warrenty.

My car was leaking coolant for months on end and I wasted so much money topping it up every week, sometimes twice a week. Eventually I gave in a took my car to a garage expecting to pay a lot of money because I thought the gasket had gone...

All he did was put.... K-seal in the system and I haven't topped up since! and that was 3 weeks ago! and still going well! :anbet:

K-Seal™ - Permanent Coolant Leak Repair

forgot to mention that since picking it up from the dealers the last time, the car sometimes smokes LOADS for 5 mins after startup when its been stood over night.

Urrmmm not good huh Mikey, thats a shitter for sure & possibly expensive

Least your getting it sorted under warrenty :)

yup all under warrenty. Dropped my car off this morning and the service manager said it does indeed sound like the cylinder head so he will book me a nice car for at least a few days while they take a real good look at it. So they have given me a 09 Audi A6 estate TDI with a lot of toys on it, DSG box, Sat Nav, only 500 miles on the clock. Quite a nice drive but it's stupidly slow!!! Oh well, big pimpin here we come.

Got my car back this morning, was the cylinder head, so I have a brand new head now. So for all those thinking this common problem affected just early (2004) TDI engines, it might not be the case. Mines a 56 plate! Anyway, I hope thats the end of the issue. All work done under warrenty. I gotta say the dealer has looked after me VERY VERY well, given me updated phone calls, given me a nice courtesy car to pimp around in, and has carried the work out promplty.

so mikey didnt the remap affect your warrenty then or didnt they notice ???

thanks for the pm thats cleared it up nicely lol.... gona get mine mapped now

thanks for the pm thats cleared it up nicely lol.... gona get mine mapped now

i assume someone else pm'd you coz I didnt.

Nothing at all was said about my car being mapped or lowered or the milltek, the only thing that was said by the service manager was "nice pressed plates, where can I get some of them for mine?"

where did you get your plates from and have you ever had a pull with em ...im thinking about some new plates....

dubmesiter, NEVER been pulled with them and ive been using them for appx 5 years.

didnt you get them from a show .... can you get them online

cheers for that gona get some myself im not ***** about what was said in that thread theres loads of foreign plates in uk so i doubt you would get a pull anyway.....

HI guys,

Have been reading this thread with great interest as I now find myself in a similar position with the coolant levels dropping every 3 weeks or so.

Alongside this we had a squeeking in the engine, similar to a fan belt noise. So the car went into Audi this week for servicing, and I asked them to take a look at these problems.

They thought they were both symptoms of a water pump problem, so I let them go in to fix it, but they then found it had already had a new water pump and the squeek was actually a faulty tensioner on the aux belt.

Squeek is now fixed which is nice, but will need to monitor the coolant. No leaks under pressure testing, so they think cylinder head or head gasket. It could go for a year or more they say. My issue is that we have had no other symptoms like some of you have had i.e. slow starting or white smoke. Audi haven't considered any other fixes like some of you have mentioned e.g EGR valves.

Does any one have any thoughts on this one?

Thanks in advance,

Anthea
