Hey everyone, picked up my A3 1.8T Sport last week and have been searching the forum over the weekend.

Alot of helpful information on here and have already hopefully diagnosed the airbag light due to the S3 seats fitted, and well on the way to sorting out the central locking which seems a common problem.

I'm sure I will have a few questions shortly as the turbo does not seem to be 'kicking in' as expected, but waiting for the Haynes manual to give me a better idea as this is the first Audi and turbo car I have owned.

See you all around :icon_thumright:

Cheers

Hi Ellisium, welcome mate and enjoy :)

post some pics of your car

Nice one! Put up some pics...always good to see a fellow non-S3 owner...

Here's a larger version of my avatar:

The extras are:
  • 18" TT alloys
  • S3 Recaro leather interior
  • Tinted windows on the rear
  • Spoiler
The car just needs a little TLC as a few bits and bobs are missing and the wheels need a refurb. I'm sure I will have some questions as I go along :sm4:

Just in the process of sorting out a wiring loom for the electric seats and going through the Haynes manual here :readit:

Thanks for the replies :)

Strange that, I seem to have had a similar problem with the turbo on my 1.8T. I didn't really notice it at first due to not knowing how hard it should pull on boost, however after having some shinanagans with the battery and fuse holder on top I ended up with a new 60amp battery whereas the old one was 55. Only thing I've changed but it seems to boost so much harder now

I'd be interested to hear what you find.

im in same boat m8 im looking to modify my s3 but havent a true idear of were to start but haynes seems like the place to look lol

ok, just had a quick look at the turbo / intercooler setup and came across this:

I assume one is for the hose to the intercooler but how about the other?

Going to jack it up later and have a better look but any help is appreciated.

They're apparantly supposed to be fitted with 60Ah's, not that 55 caused me any problems...

there should be two aluminium pipes going into those holes that unit is the a/c compressor

Cheers, that makes sense as still getting my head around the setup and idn't look right for a turbo.

One of the pipes is still attached so may need to source another.

Going to take the engine cover off shortly to have a closer look at the turbo.

Thanks

No mate, went to view another car a couple of weeks ago (clio 172) and heard about this one for sale.

Right, just had a good look under the bonnet to familiarise myself with the layout and which pipes go where. I initially thought the exhaust port was at the front (hence my confusion above, I will sort out the a/c later) but now have a better understanding of the setup and how it works (this is my first turbo car)

If the wastegate was on its way out would this result in reduced performance and is there a simple test I could do to check this as the turbo is not as pronounced as expected?

It looks like the Haynes manual doesn't cover the S3 or quattro models, but i'm sure parts of it will be relevant mate.
