Seems theirs a UK based supplier now.

http://www.lamin-x.co.uk/

Don't offer pre-cut shapes like the US store but I guess we can all handle a pair of scissors!

Looks like they offer discounts too.

i would just want to do the fronts i think.

Has anybody measured theirs before?

I think red for the rears could look alright.

If anyone is doing a group buy make it soon, if not i'm ordering a kit from america.

they offer discounts iff you advertise for them so it would be up to the modderators i guess ......

I would be interested in some subtle smoked ones...

I ordered from them last week and the film arrived a few days later with a plastic applicator tool and a keyring. It`s a lot cheaper to order from them then buy from the states since you get a lot more film for your money. Since the film isn`t pre cut you don`t have to worry about having the film fitted exactly as they have cut it to fit the shape of your lights.

Does it offer much protection from stone chips??

Does it reduce efficiency of the lights?

go on the site edition all the questions and answers are there you can put the clear stuff to protect the front of your car theyve got pics where a cars had a knock looks wrecked but the just peel its off and its not even marked check the site out ....

Hmmm sounds good!

I recently had a stone damage the front headlight! Luckily it didn't destroy it but would have had if it were 5mm up!

Taken from website.

yes it does stop stone chips

Our light protection, light tinting films are used throughout the world in motorsport. Having been developed for the prevention of cracked, stone chipped headlights, spot lights, fog lights on race cars and also to distinguish between race classes by the means of different colours. After having been used by many race series with great success (Lemans, Britcar, Wtcc and more) the products are obviously of great interest to the public. Those who are safety conscious, classic car enthusiasts, track day driving, bikers, motor home owners and those who travel many motorway miles.

Effecting light output, i would like to know also. Especially with the gunsmoke/light tint varieties.

Can any body comment?

Tint allows 95% light output and gunsmoke 90% according to the American Lamin-X site.http://www.lamin-x.com/#
Look at the bottom left of the site and click on the colour your interested in for more information.

I guess its like driving around with your headlights slighly grubby...

So is there any admin that can approve for discount?

From some previous posts i have read, this may be the hard part organising? or did i get the wrong end of the stick.

I am going to get some of this anyway, so if i can get it a bit cheaper, then all the better.

I think i will drop lamin-x an email, and see if they are willing to do discounts and for what quantities etc.

Any body interested, speak up

I have emailed them and raised the question.

Will let you know as soon as they get back to me, and get some idea of prices etc.

if you go on the uk sight it says something about discount if they can advertise on the site or somthing to that affect have a look id be interested though in some suble tint for the front although im still not sure i dont want the murdered out look i want it to look classy still so subtle might be good ....

Was interested in buying from America but would be interested in a group buy whenever.. Is there any legal issues with say the darkest tint?

devonmikeyboy - which tint did you go for?

Could you do me a massive favour and post a pic of yours?

Cheers.

I'd be interested in some subtle tint. Anyone know what size we need to order?

I am going to have a measure of the lights in a little bit when i get dressed :p

Buy the looks of it on the site, there is only set sizes to order..

I'm up for a group buy! What shades are people thinking of getting?

Also devonmikeyboy can you post pics of youres and how many sheets you ordered? Cheers mate

Whats this stuff like to fit? ie is it an easy job or like have ago window tinters with more bubbles in it than in the bath

yeah dudes il be in for a group buy subtle tint for me ..nothing extreme the blue a3 looks nice ....

Had a quick measure earlier and came up with the following measurement for the lights.

Approximately 510mm x 150mm for the headlights.

I would measure the spots but i aint got any :whistle2:

The lamine-x says to add 25mm per side to allow for full coverage etc.

so measurements would be aprrox 560mm x 200mm

in english that equates to 21 1/2 " x 8" (approx)

nearest size they sell to do this is 12" x 24" @ £21.99 . 2 off these will be needed.

Depending on the size of the fog lights though, i reckon it may be possible that there will be enough spare to do these from the 2 sheets.

Somebody needs to measure their spots though :)

If someone else would like to double check these measurements also , as twice is better:p

It's "tint" mate. I think gunsmoke may be a step too far.

Also, if it's £21.99 for each headlamp you guys are as well getting the pre-cut stuff from the states. I paid about £45 delivered which included the fogs. It would be quite tricky cutting them nice and straight around headlamps....

just use a compass and measure the circumference for the fogs...doddle ...but yeah i think gunsmoke will be shat tint is the way forward looks nice although cos my car is dark im still not sure ......

Yeah tint is the one! and Blazin I think Lamin-X would finish off you're front mate, cant wait to see it!

By the way-What will work out cheaper, the pre cut ones from the US which dont fit the fog lamps on the facelift models or 2 sheets from the UK guys that we have to cut our selves?

k then, had a look on us site, for the headlight and fog, with a 2oz botle of protectant and P&P comes to $64.64 or £43.77

the uk site i went for 2 sheets of 12" x 20" which will cost £37.98 and P&P
UK Second class recorded @ £1.99 + extra item 49p max.
UK First class recorded @ £2.49 + extra item .99p max.
UK Next day Mon-Thu @ £4.99 + extra item £3.49p max.
Republic of Ireland @ £4.99 + extra item £3.49p max.
International Signed @ £6.00 + extra item £4.50 max.

so i guess as it is two items, goin for first class will cost £3.48

all in total

UK - £41.46
US - £43.77

n i think the us would be best dues to the fact of having nothing to cut, you get a protectant spray and film for the fog lights! just a shame bout how long delivery will take!

but which models of A3 are the US ones for? On the US Site I could only find for models from 2006- so I'm slightly unsure... are all the headlights/fogs identical? Mine's an 03 TDI Sport with fogs...

i think the headlight fron the 03 8p modal like ours up to the 08 8p are all the same! only difference with the cars is the facelift front!

The precut fog lights from US are oval so wouldn't fully cover the fogs on 06 onwards as they are round! Its' a tricky one

hmm... wonder if they do pick n mix... fancy yellow fogs and perhaps the blue heads...
