Hi, I am in Portsmouth but also travel to the capital. I need some more power and to get rid of the horrible vague steering and understeer, any suggestions where to go? I know there is a local company but after hearing two stories of horror I guess I will have to go elsewhere.

Hello,

For a chip you could try superchips or revotechnik. For the handlimg issue you can try by mounting a quaife LSD.

Best regards,
ANdi

and also, if you do fit an LSD you will not get much torque steer from when you do an upgrade, do you have a quattro! look at getting lower suspension n new antiroll bars. n as said below, get it remapped, but get a new exhaust and air filter first, n if you are willing to spend, get a new high flow fuel pump then get it re mapped!

get a milltech exaust, remap , and an air intake, lowered on h&r springs, arbs, 19inch alloys should solve all your problems

please god no 19's, look **** and ruin a cars ride.

Rather than going overboard (that comes later!), put a good set of anti roll bars on (H&R are good). They'll make a big difference as well as give you an idea of whether you want to spend more on suspension. For power, chip it. GIAC, Revo, APR etc. Can't go wrong with any of them.

Have to agree, don’t want to go for 19's! Went from 17" to 19" on a GTi, wrecked the car! Don’t want coil over’s that would be far too harsh for road use, just want to remove the under steer and add a few extra horses. I’m leaning towards a Milltek cat back and a remap, unsure about suspension.

I have the giac flashloader remap on mine and impressed with it mate i think there software is so smooth on power delivery compared with some on the market thats why i went for them again after had there's on my golf.

10BLAZIN is yours mapped ? if so what fiqures are you gettin extimated?

I wouldn't go for 19s either - I find the 18s on mine almost too harsh.

Pleased with my chippeduk ST3 remap too, much better power delivery.

no cosmetics at the mo then engine later on in the year... milltec... remap and airfilter...

After a lot of research and phoning around, I decided I wanted more than just a generic map in a handset. I have decided on the following by Morego up in the midlands. They offer their Powergrip suspension that is purely a geometry change, so I will get a more neutral handling car with better front end grip without sacrificing ride. Their words so I will be interested to see results! I have also gone with their 250 upgrade, Milltek exhaust & BBR custom Starchip. From the road tests on the golf gti on their site, it seems like a good package. I leave the car with them on Saturday and collect mid week, will post results!

do u know anymore with what they are doing to the suspension? are they lowering it and just stiffening it up?!

Is this milltech exhaust really that good?(everyones talking bout it?

Isnt it better to get a full exhaust from the turbo with race catalyst?

the milltek tbe is a great exhaust, you can get it resonated or non resonated which basically means, the resonated one has a silencer in it, they keep the standard look tailpipes, just with smoother pipework and slightly bigger bore (i think) this will decrease backpressure and allow the turbo to spool much more easily and freely, and the pick up of revs for low down will be quicker! they fit a high flow cat, race ones will be illegal probably as will be producing too much emissions. but that depends on the engine, if you have the 1.4 tsi then you may not need a cat as its a smaller engine!

Morego’s powergrip suspension is modified front wishbones that widen front track and add camber, this greatly improves front end grip, improves turn in and reduces under steer. After a lengthily conversation with Neil there (very helpful) He recommended trying this setup with the std springs as this is what they use on golf gti’s & focus st’s with great results. Apparently using harder springs affects handling on bumpy A & B roads, causing the unloaded wheel to loose contact with the road and hence loose drive – not wanted! Neil advised that the Milltek is the best quality and best fitting exhaust for VAG within that price range.

very true, with stiffer spring you get that bouncy feeling, but fitted with dampers it should be ok as the bouncyness will go and the spring rate will make the wheel keep in tact with road. it is good to lower it obviously because of lower centre of gravity but the change in camber will have a drastic improvment!
