looks like the old common coil pack problem has hit me!
I had a spy through the forum and from investigating under the bonnet that seems to be the problem (misfiring between 3 & 4 cylinders)

The only info i couldnt seem to find here was where the best place to get a new coil pack from was? and what sort of price am i looking at? i've been told circa £90.

Best to go with genuine Audi ones. They are ~£30 each.

You do find some pattern ones on eBay and the like, but from previous threads, these don't seem to be as reliable.

Cheers,

Agree with Ali

ALWAYS go for the genuine ones, from Audi around about £30, which is probably £2-3 more than a copy, but more reliable.

Cheers guys.

Looks like it wont be as expensive as i 1st thought!

I always go for genuine parts and have done on all my cars. Much rather spend the extra pennies now than fork out for new parts every few months

3 and 4 are the difficult ones to get to as you have to whip of the N249 black Box on top - see the guides for help: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2964360 & http://www.audi-sport.net/vb/showthread.php?t=38569

I meant it was just running between 3 & 4 Cylinders i.e. missfiring. Not that it was cylinder 3 or 4 but i know what you mean about the difficulties. I was dreading having to take those parts off but i just tried the first two to see if i would have to tackle 3 and 4, luckily for me it was number 1!!
Why do they make that so difficult to get to? Especially when its such a common problem. I suppose its just to force novice mechanics (such as myself ) to use Audi garages.

Hopefully managed to pick a used one up for free from a guy off another forum so the S will be back soon :icon_thumright:

GSF dothe genuine ones for a quid less than audi, only any help if they are nerer to you

I normally use GSF for parts but when i searched "coil packs" they came up with nothing??

Yea they dont always list everything, you are better ringing them....also the used one, just be wary, it may work fine, but its a part where you just never know, and could go in 5 minutes, if not, happy days, you got the car back on the road for free!! :)
