Hi all,

First post. I've been trying to find a pic on the web of what the s-tronic shifter looks like in the new S3? I've got a DSG GTI so I'm presuming it's pretty similar. Does it have an S3 logo on it like the manual shifter does?

Can anyone can point me towards a picture of the cabin of an s-tronic equipped S3 as I've yet to find one?

Cheers.

There you go!

Well that's certainly a lot different to the s-tronic shift lever to other models in the A3 range. Most have the release button on the side of the lever, just where it should be when you hold it.

Having just looked at the parts catalogue there are different s-tronic levers for LHD and RHD on all models except the S3. These have the release button on opposite sides. For the S3 the same lever is used for both.

That's great guys, thanks. Just what I was looking for!

Same place lever as the Golf's huh, I like it, gonna check cost as I'm in middle of swapping gear surround parts over, the side or front lever position has same action, it just lifts up a plastic piece in the middle of the gear selector to release the rod to move to the correct gear, so would fit I should think all dsg/stronic cars aswell, I'll update when I've had a look.

****** hell you're like an audi parts whore lol :whip::p

lol, I always preferred the golf version for dsg gear selector & only just when I took apart & saw what was & this image made me realise, **** would have fitted any of them anyway, lol, its much nicer dont you think? The side button makes it look like an old persons car, lmao

Cannot quite see how the position of the release button determines why it's an old persons car.

But perhaps that's why I like it!!! It just feels in the perfect postion to press with your thumb when you need to use it.

Is it the same as the TTS?

Autos used to be always associated with older people, they were more older persons style, I can understand why, given my knee joints are worn & get painful when driving for while, so autos were easier & less hassle to drive, thats my analogy, anyway Dave you're not that old, you're as old as you feel, my missus is 26 so I feel 26, lmao

They always used to say "you're only as old as the woman you feel". As your 'missus' is only 26 that makes you 26. In my case it doesn't work quite so well as my wife is a year old than me!

exactly, couldnt say it better myself, lol

Yeah and ive been nailing a 43 year old and im only 29, that cant be good...

When you say nailing her, is this anything to do with your avatar comment "Rear Ender" lmao

Well the S3 stronic gear knob is about £60, so might grab one if returnable & see if its same, damn just bought a new perforated one aswell, but always wanted golf style anyway, its only the lock release anyway, just case of it can fit stock or mod to fit.

The actual gear knob for the s-tronic on the S3 is part number 8P0 713 141 SKH.

I will update when I've modded to fit, its tricky trust me after much investigation, I have the new gearknob now & in 10 pieces to understand how it fixes on, but its not a simple job, 2 options, heat up the gear unit lifter that goes down the middle of the metal stem so the release lifter turns 90 degrees to suit the front button or cut the plastic lifter of, turn & reattach the top to the bottom by ways of drilling middle out & sticking say a metal pin through middle of each part & glue in place, its very intricate work with no room for cockups, but confident I can do or its £250 new gear unit let alone labour, might do tomorrow

Scroll up & you'll see pics of the gearknob itself on an S3 & also the TT one.

that TTS interior looks soooo plush :hubbahubba:

I know this is off topic. But just look at that dasboard. PERFECT imo. That is one of the main reasons why I drive an audi over a BMW/Merc etc....

Just perfect. :)
