Alright guys, about 6 weeks ago, I had a windscreen repair carried out at one of those hut things outside Halfords/B&Q, you know the ones, they advertise as 'free windscreen chip repair'.

I decided to enquire first, and the chap seemed pretty friendly and asked who I was insured with, so I told him my insurance company and he took out a list with most major company's listed, and said there would be a £5 excess for the repair paid by myself, and that they would do the rest for full payment. So 20 minutes later(it took 5 minutes, but he was quite busy!), I had the repair done, filled in my car and insurace details on a form, paid the fiver and drove off.

So just today, I receive a letter from my insurance company(Adrian Flux/NIG) saying that they have received a claim for a windscreen chip repair, but hve not heard of the company, so require me to pay in full, and they will reinburst me in full with a receipt. Now supplied with the letter was an invoice for £90 of work which included 2 repairs and a make shift signature from yours truly, I NEVER signed anything!? Phoned the Ins company up to see where I stand on the matter, they said that it was upto me to take action, and that nothing on my insurance will be effected, and that I shouldn't have paid any excess, it's free! So the window place was trying to pull a fast one.

Now do you guys think I should let it be and pretend nothing has happened, so I'm a fiver down for the repair, or should I call the window place up and kick up a big fuss, since they now have details of my address and car just to get it resolved?

Basically, I'm not going to pay them anything more than I have done for the work they have done, but on the other hand, it could be a genuine mistake(I doubt it very much, since they forged my signature) by said company, but I don't see why I should be doing the donkey work so they can get paid.

Jo lets go down and duff em in....after all its your address they have not mine ;)

Also lets see if SIDI is about :gun2:

Might be worth giving HO a call and see if they can help you out at all...would probably say to deal with them, rather than your man in the hut, after all he is probably going to just deny all knowledge!!

I'd be kicking off big style after finding out the have forged a signature. Get on the phone and see what they say.

I've thought about calling them up to kick up a big fuss like you all say, but really can't be ***** to waste my time on it. I'll do something about it if I get a secondary letter requiring payment, let them do the chasing around, it's not like I have anything financial to gain from it, and most certainly, they can't do ME for anything, since I have done nothing wrong.

At least I've got it off my chest and hope this could be a warning to other forum users of what these company's get upto, it's all well dodgy 'adding' additional repairs onto a claim, since the idea was for me to not know what happened, and that they would get free money for nothing.

I guess at the end of the day, they are criminals, and I don't want to deal with them directly. And whilst it's in the interest of the community to stamp them out, I doubt that they will stop doing what they have been doing for years.

I'm open to opinions and views of the situ, I'm sure I'm not the only they done this trick to, there must have been loads!

Wouldnt be the one on Sears Retail Park would it?, (opposite B&Q)

Uh Jo I would most certainly follow it up 1st for the forged signature, 2nd the false claim of work as it was 1 repair, 3rd false advertising as it was free, do I need to go on, also not being funny but I wouldnt trust my details to someone not recommended to me or my insurance company has listed as its just to dodgy, give them **** & pull them up on it with a threat of legal action for fraudulent activities, cause there will be some sad sucker that gets shafted by them somehow, just dont know whats wrong with people these days, no consciences anymore, unreal

Yup, that's the one, sometimes on the B&Q side of the carpark also.

I did actualy try to call them 3 times on the day the letter arrived, there was only a mobile number on the issues invoice, and they didn't answer each time... so I'm not going to waste my time with these guys, really can't be ***** with the hassle.

I can only recommend that anyone who has a stone chip and wants a repair head straight towards RAC/Autowindscreens for the job, they are at the very least reputable and should be free - no excess to pay and no effects on your insurance policy.

Go down and make a fuss while hes trying to con other people, tell him you have been informed by his company that there is no £5 excess and he only did 1 repair not 2. Worth a bit of lost buisness for him ......

Yeah I've seen it, always wondered how it works. If I recall the little shelter they have says 'FREE WINDSCREEN REPAIRS' on it, its a bit rich the guy workings taken a fiver off you.

Cant help but think he's on the take and he's making a nice little profit out of it behind his companies back. I'll be sure to flick him the V's when I roll past.

T

id just throw gloss paint allover his van and hut hahahahaha lol

As long as you are not responsible for the payment, Sod them !!

Seek enough advice and draft a letter stating you didnt not sign anything and you expect a full refund of the fiver and a copy of "your" sig, not the fraudulant copy they appear to have and you will pay them in full. I recon that will be the last you hear too

Also might be mentioing to B&Q what the screen guy does, as i am sure they need permission to set up and thats not cricket
